Whats in a Brand Name? – we bought our 1st TCL last year from H.Normans (55"). They were bagging it then and tried to talk us out of it. since then I have bought this 40" and the smaller brother 32" through the NSW Govt Seniors half price offer. 3 years warrenty, excellent sound & picture. Once we Aussies find out that TCL is worlds 2nd biggest TV manufacturer & very big… Read more
overseas maybe the Harvey Normanders will stop bagging it and pump the prices up. And dont forget there are only 4 manufactures of the screen tiles anyway so often the brand name is the only main difference, Have just ordered the new 55" inch smart TV Kogan has coming next month using using a LG screen (available with Samsung screen) for $499.(exstended 5yr in home warrenty). At the moment if your not with Kogan mobile and buying his TVs youve got more money then sense.
New TV – This TV was half the cost of others I looked at. It is a great size, easy to use and offers a great picture quality. I was impressed with the 3 year warranty and added an extra 2 years through the store. I also like the narrow frame around the screen as it looks very sleek. Would highly recommend this product. Good value for an 'entry level' – I purchased this for the FIFA World Cup, and did not want to spend too much on a television (they aren't worth the money they fetch) – I paid $380.00 for the TV. The picture quality is good, it lets me play my .mp4s from a USB, hooks up to the HDMI cable & has decent inbuilt speakers. I'd recommend this one. In-built speakers. Remote control is cheap.
For the price it is the best – You can get it for around $400 in Binglee the RRP is $500 though. But I must say I am not disappointed by it. Plays lot of video formats, has good sharp picture, Full HD features. The thing to be loved most about it is the sound quality. Usually in lower price range TVs the speakers are bad, but this one has crisp and loud speakers. Fills in the… Read more
whole apartment. Will suggest to people without doubt. speakers, low price, picture quality Clumsy back
Good quality cheap tv – I purchased my 40 inch TCL LCD tv last year for less than $300. This is my first flat screen tv and I did not want to spend too much money on a new tv as the technology is getting better all the time. I decided to give TCL a go as I had watched a TCL tv when I stayed at a motel a few weeks earlier and was quite surprised at the nice picture it was… Read more
giving. I had previously thought that on cheap brand tvs like this that the picture would not be that good.
How wrong I was! I have had my TCL for around 5 months now and it has not skipped a beat. Excellent tv for the price. The glass stand was a surprise as well as most cheap Tvs I have seen for sale only have a plastic stand. Adds a touch of class to the tv. I will definitely buy another TCL in the future.
Thank you TCL. Cheap, good picture
Reasonable quality LCD TV – This is an entry level TV and any comments about should keep this in mind. Typically this 40" (106cm) TV sells (new) for about $450.00 so you can't expect it to be the 'juiciest chop on the barbie'. We purchased this unit about 3 months ago so I have had enough time to evaluate its performance. Firstly this is an old technology LCD chassis so it… Read more
does suffer from some of the early LCD traits. The screen has a slow refresh rate which means the picture will pixelate during fast action scenes...particularly sport. It's not major but can be a bit annoying if you are expecting a crystal sharp image. But, connect it to a Blu-Ray player and picture quality is quite outstanding...every bit as good as any other screen I have seen, maybe just a touch of lateral movement on really heavy colours like bright red and green but in general really impressive.
The controls on the remote are not where they should logically be, which is a bit annoying....You have to look where the 'mute' button and 'channel list' buttons are instead of simply feeling for them. They are lumped in with a block of 16 other buttons, not easily recognized.
The TV has all the features you need these days....PVR recording...USB connectivity, both of which work really well, but the panel has few connection ports....Only 1 HDMI port, 1 set of component terminals and the external 'audio out' outlets are taken straight from the tuner source so you cannot hook an external amplifier to the TV and watch say a DVD. You get the DVD picture with the TV station sound. Maybe I will find some way around that.
In general not a bad set, reasonably good picture and easy to access different 'Menu' functions.
If you are looking to hook up lots of other equipment then this set is probably not for you...it is fairly basic, but definitely worth the money. With technology changing so fast I cannot justify spending thousands on a set that will be obsolete within two years Price, non-reflecting screen slow refresh rate. very few component ports

Agree with all the above. I picked mine up for $297, so I'd give it 4/5 overall after factoring in… Read more (+2 replies)
