  6TF Dark Toffee Blonde

So relieved to have found this fabulous, 100% grey coverage hair colour! After my regular hair colour (a popular brand) changed their formula and went from fabulous to applying a green, drying sludge, I tried many other 'at home' hair dye brands without success. None covered greys very well, some left my hair colour looking brassy, and others dried it out, leaving it frizzy. I was getting desperate.

However, from the online reviews showing promise, I firstly tried Tints of Nature 5D Medium Golden Brown.

Wow! Finally found my new 'go-to' brand.

Whilst this particular colour ended up slightly darker than anticipated (I have curly, porous hair) I'm now using shade (6TF) which, on my hair, instead of being 'Dark toffee blonde', ends up a light-medium golden brown which is exactly what I wanted (to replace colour 5G in the previous brand.)

Tints of Nature hair colour is applied a little differently, in that you firstly wash your hair (with the supplied charcoal shampoo), then apply the colour to damp hair. Then you wash off, apply their shampoo and then their conditioner.

It went on easily, no dripping of the dye, no unpleasant scent, all greys were 100% covered (yay!) and it left my hair shiny and looking healthy. Three weeks later and the colour has not faded at all.

LOVE!

Best 'at home' hair colour. I'm so glad to have finally found a replacement for my previous brand.

Purchased in at Chemist Warehouse Online Store for $22.

Comparable to salon colours – Like many who usually visit the salon, pandemic lockdowns forced me to find a home alternative. I wasn't looking forward to it as I have extremely sensitive skin. My usual hairdresser uses Chi, an ammonia free hair colour, so I sought out a home equivalent. I did have some fun mixing the "N" colours, which according to Tints of Nature, provide the best grey coverage, with some of the fashion colours for accents, but ultimately, found using the "N" colours alone provided the fullest coverage. Some lessons I've learned:

1. I don't wash hair before colouring. Tints of Nature recommend washing hair then leaving conditioner on for a full hour before colouring. It's not bad advice but it does make the whole process more time consuming, given the time colour has to be on and then the time involved in washing it off. In normal circumstances, it's less trouble to visit a hairdresser. Having extremely sensitive skin, I've discovered it's far better off not to wash hair before colouring - my scalp is far less likely to react, and might not react at all. I understand Tints of Nature make this recommendation to get rid of whatever product might be in the hair to interfere with the colour, but given the nature of products I use - natural/organic - my hair takes the colour just fine without being washed first and it's easier on my skin. I guess if you use hair products with silicone, this may not work for you.

2. It took me quite a few efforts to establish the right shade. A common complaint among Tints of Nature reviews is that the colours are too dark and that was my first experience too. Since returning to my hairdresser post lockdown, I've learned that technically I'm dark blonde, even though my hair is brown. My hairdresser informed me that he's dark blond too (and his hair, to my view is much darker than mine, but he informs me that it's "cooler.") Also, if you're trying to avoid making your hair too dark, it may be worthwhile remembering to touch up the roots rather than carrying the colour through your hair for the full time, or to carry the colour down for the final 5 or 10 minutes to liven up the ends, just as hairdressers often do.

3. Grey coverage: yes it will, provided you cover your hair sufficiently with the product. There is ample product provided to do that, but I find it awkward to manage myself, particularly working around the back where I can't see. In fairness, I've presently got an issue with my hands which makes application difficult for me. I've learned that really slathering the colour around the hairline gives superior coverage. I don't think Tints of Nature lasts quite as long as salon colours, but it certainly gives them a run for their money.

Verdict: great product, but I prefer visiting the hairdressers. As a back-up product to use at home when I can't, well, it's remarkably good. Terrific, in fact.

  4N Natural Medium Brown

pretty surprising results – this product gets 4 stars only because it took 2 applications to cover the grey 100% at first time use, which was a little bit annoying if you’re use to using chemical dyes. I love the end result it leaves my hair shiny and soft and the product has very little odor. So it pretty good for a natural product.

Best "Cruelty Free" Hair Dye On The Market – After finding out most hair dye brands test on animals. (L'Oréal, Revlon, Schwarzkopf, Clairol, etc.) I was determined to find a nice cruelty free brand. It took a couple months of trying various brands but i finally found one i love, which is Tints Of Nature! It dyes hair evenly (without any patchiness) and leaves your hair feeling strong, shiny and soft. It also smells incredible and comes in a bunch of colours!
