Warning Bad Service Very Rude – Very bad service. Get something fixed and it comes back not in the original box without instructions and trying to get them back is hell very bad service dont buy tomtom bad bad bad bad service and the warranty is a joke.
Great when new but then – Totally satisfied for two years the battery issues untill it would only go for a minute the cut out even when plugged in. As this is my 4th tom tom and all had similar issues I decided to change the battery and cracked the screen. I am a slow learner but I will not buy another tom tom. The dont have to make them so difficult to change a battery.
Good when new but poor non-replaceable battery – I was very happy with this at first but the battery died after a year and the unit would only operate while plugged in - even the 2 second break in power while starting the engine was enough to reboot the unit. After a few years the screen became very dim and very difficult to see (though this was possibly a battery or cable issue). I'll never… Read more
know because today I tried to open the unit with a view to changing the battery. The process was much more difficult than a Youtube clip would have us believe (the video was from a battery supply company and they must have somehow pre-removed the screen to make the process look easier), and in the process I cracked the screen and ruined the unit. No wonder the company says the battery is non-replaceable, as no-one would want to risk destroying the whole thing. I'm not sure what I'll do now.
BTW I found the unit easy to use and loved the size of the screen and the fact it was touch-screen.
Very good GPS unit but no support for battery issues – I never had any issues using mine for 3 years and I like its big screen. Until the battery went dead and it can't be use without plugging in. It always starts up everytime ignition is switched off. I contacted customer support and was told that battery is irreplaceable and suggested to buy a new one at 25% discount. I am plugging it in a… Read more
mobile phone powerbank for the mean time so it can stay on just like before. Then later on I will buy a battery replacement kit and risk changing it by myself.
Great Device! – For people complaining about battery issues, get a new battery and replace it yourself. I did it for my wife. Cost $13 for a replacement battery. Problem is when people keep it fully charged all the time and never let it drain dead. Most of the time this dead battery is caused by you, the user. Think you will not have the same issues with another… Read more
brand? Think again. Also, do a factory reset and install the latest updates if you are having trouble.
Useless after battery went dead – Functionally, this is a good unit, but battery is sealed inside and only had a life length of two years then would no longer charge. Seems like a strategy of enforced replacement from TomTom, so even though I liked most (but not all) of the functionality and screen presentations I will never buy this brand again.
Customer Service sucks – This is my 4th TomTom. The only problem I have is the BATTERY AGAIN. I was told by support that it cannot be replaced. I have to buy a new unit. Oh and I can get a25% discount. I was told the cost of repairing (replacing the battery) is more than the cost of a new one. What a lot of crock! A $6 battery and 45 minutes labour. This adds up to a new Tomtom.
I'm Very Pleased but be patient with the Computer Update Process – I use my GO 600 in a motorhome. We have been across to WA from NSW and all through a number of states using the SatNav every day for over two years. I have read some of the reviews above and can agree with how messed up the computer interface can get (for me it was self inflicted). But TomTom support is great now and they can both help and offer a… Read more
complete system reset and software reinstall if needed (I needed it)
Most of my problems were because my internet link was too slow when I was in remote areas. It took a bit of sorting but now and for the last 20 months it has worked without a problem. I find the unit very good. My wife has a GO500 which just works and I like that. Update about once each few months and that works too.
TomTom Customer Service: 1300 135604. Good luck
I Hate My New TomTom 600 – I have gone from greatest supporter to biggest hater, I loathe what they have done, dim dull screen, slow warnings tell you to turn when you are 40 metres to corner, the petrol icons clunky interface. I don't think I can live with it, maybe I'll check the Navman with dash cam. I am editing this in fairness to Tomtom today 5/10/15 the reason for… Read more
the dim screen was that you must use the power supply that comes with the unit (I tried a dual USB power supply to combine with my dash cam) the screen is fine and bright now however after several months use I still hate what they have done to a once great product, there is no point of interest search as with the previous model there are still many infuriating inferior changes, and you will soon see it on eBay, I just need time to check out other brands, the Navman with dash cam included is where I'll start which may get rid of my camera and wires.
OK but could be better – I bought the unit for driving in Italy because it had a good size screen and lightweight to carry around but First issue I had was the battery, it will drain very quick so no use Carrying it around! The second issue is when I was driving from Rome to Pienza , I firstly took a wrong turn but eventually got back on track, Tom tom never… Read more
re-routed and even driving 100km the unit will still wanted me to head south towards Rome, even after I reseted it from my new destination the stupid thing still wanted to head south!, switched to Nokia drive on my mobile half way into my journey, anyway worked good around Tuscany . Thirdly the most frustrating part of using TOM TOM 600 is connectivity to a PC, even after updating drivers and so on, on my 7 windows it failed so tried it on my sons windows 8 it failed, than took the beast out , the old XP sitting in a special corner - fired her up and worked without any issues.
Nice big screen but no POI, custom sounds (custom most things). NO Phone Hands free!!!!! – Its got a nice big 6" screen and the menu system has improved but still average... The color of the maps is pretty plain and doesn't look as good as other GPS devices. I think they put a very slow CPU in it, screen pretty unresponsive when zooming etc. As its in sleep mode when the car is off, its almost an instant start when the car is… Read more
turned on.
THERE IS NO PHONE HANDS FREE!!!!!
I love the magnetic mount.
Sending information from desktop to GPS hasn't worked, no smartphone app unless you are in the US. You can automate the tethering setting in Android with an app on the play store to correct it after a reboot.
Forward to the past – The TomTom Go 600 is really crappy. I have owned 30 different GPS units by a number of manufacturers and many of those have been TomTom. I drive 6 times the national average and change my vehicle at least every year. I also have a small fleet of vehicles for my business. We are constantly upgrading our GPS units to test the latest technology… Read more
out. Tom Tom did have the best unit but have taken a huge step backwards with their 6" screens. Their resolution is abysmal. Their very slow and clumsy. they are not smart and they no longer have internet connection except through my own phone. I bought 2 of these units and returned them both under a week as they are terrible. Good way to lose market share TomTom. In a race to the bottom, you win.
Nothing nice to say unfortunately and advise you are better going with another brand. If the bigger screen still gets you then don't say I didn't warn you.
Not happy Jan.
Very slow and sluggish – I got this one to replace my trusty Go950. Two reasons. Firstly that the Go950 needed new maps and a kings ransom price whilst the new 600 came with free lifetime maps. Secondly I though the Go600 had a larger screen and therefore easier on my elderly eyes. The first assumption was true. I now have free maps for the rest of my life. However the… Read more
second assumption was partially wrong. Admittedly the screen is bigger but the screen is very hard to see especially in bright light or when you have your sun glasses on. But the most disappointing feature of this unit is its sluggishness. It drives you up the wall just to get the bloody thing to start navigating. The screen sensitivity is very poor and you need to push hard on the screen for it to register your finger action. And if you are a proud owner of a fat finger like mine then 7 out of ten times you select the wrong option which are listed very close to each other. The machine then reacts as though you have the whole afternoon just to ask for a direction. Very sloooooowly.
Over all this is not the worst GPS i have owned. Especially the way you just type an address and it finds it in its database. Much better than choosing house number, street name, suburb, etc. But the speed and the clarity of the screen is awful. Have been looking around to see if I can find another with better features but Tom Tom seem to have decided to stay in the cheap as chips market. I think this one is their top of the range model unless someone can tell me otherwise. Would I recommend anyone to buy a Tom Tom Go600. Naaaaaaah !
Find out how TomTom GO 600 compares to other GPS Navigation Systems
Know better, choose better.
Tom Tom Go 600 – Newest does not always mean better. This unit looks great but is a flawed GPS. I would rather trust my blind grandmother to navigate me home. The logic and choice of route selection as well as sound and map colors is appalling. the go live is far better! You cannot chane map colors or warning sounds. The my routes and my places can be confusing.… Read more
The gps got confused 5 minutes from home and wanted to take me through every detour possible. Sorry Mr Tom Tom you have sacrificed functionality for looks on this unit!
BUY ANYTHING ELSE !!! – Tomtom have been nothing but problems for almost a year now. I got the Go 600 as a replacement for a continually faulty (4 repairs) Go Live 825 ... but the Go 600 is no better. The lag on the screen is ridiculous, the inability to read directions of your route is pathetic and the lack of connectivity to Live Services (which are included for… Read more
LIFE when you buy this model) is outrageous.
My Go 600 only connects to Live Services (live traffic etc) about 5% of the time, and even then only after I go through a process that usually takes a good 20 minutes and which only sometimes works. It says it's connected to my phone, which is in turn connected to the internet - but the connection to Tomtom Live Services repeatedly fails and I get the "Technical error, please try again later" message time and time again.
Their 'customer service' is appalling. When they're not being demeaning, they're trying to blame the phone, the cigarette lighter/12v outlet and/or anything else but the unit. Eventually (and IF you can speak to someone whose accent doesn't drown out any semblance of English) they'll fob you off by saying the latest update will fix it ... which it never does.
I've FINALLY convinced them it needs repairing/replacing (after it forgot how to drive to "Home" - despite showing where it was on the screen, the planned routes never actually got to "Home" ?!) - so then they tried to make me pay the postage to return THEIR FAULTY product. Don't accept that. Complain and they'll pay for Star Track to collect and return.
Previous experience, however, doesn't fill me with confidence that the replacement process will be smooth - it'll also take quite some time to argue my way through with someone who may or may not speak English very well.
To summarise, buy anything else !!! (I suggest Navman ... that's where I'll buy next time.)
Navigation made easier – The TomTom Go 600 was purchased to replace an earlier TomTom Go World 1050 used extensively both locally and overseas. Disappointingly the battery on the 3 year old Go World had failed completely and the device could only be operated when connected to an external power supply in the car mount or to my computer. While alternative and adequate… Read more
navigation is readily available on my smartphone I have found a dedicated navigation device generally easier and better than using the phone navigation functions. Unable to replace the battery on my older device the TomTom support team suggested that an option would be to purchase new device and promised that I would be able to transfer all my current world maps to the new device. While initially unimpressed with the cost to buy a replacement Tom Tom device I am now quite pleased with the Go 600 and my world maps for the US, Europe etc have all been transferred to the new device. While moving from a 5 inch to a 6 inch screen is a good start the screen resolution on the Go 600 is much much sharper and clearer and the new TomTom menu structure is also a significant improvement. The navigation starts quickly and there is now no delay searching for the current location. I particularly like the new search function where starting to enter a street name quickly brings up potential relevant suburb and address matches and on the other half of the screen possible nearby points of interest. When the relevant street and suburb is selected the device is then ready for the street number. By contrast on the older device quite often I was unable to locate street addresses when starting with the listed suburb even when trying possible variations such as attaching 'North' or 'West' to the suburb name and multiple steps were always required even for successful address searches. Starting with a less than positive history with TomTom I am quite satisfied with the Go 600 and would thoroughly recommend.
Can live without it – Whats the point in buying the new tomtom if it takes longer to start up than my old tomtom I have had for 7 years. Then there is the battery. I have to charge it more often than my old tomtom & its always on, there is no power saving mode. If I knew this I would not have bought it. The screen size makes it easy 2 see the next turn Too slow to start up & no power saving mode
Rubbish – This is my 3rd tomtom 1st one was good the last one just stopped working only 10 months old, the maps are totally out of date and off the planet, I bought it at dick smith and could not any help there. Never never again. Don't believe the the ads Slow. Maps old and useless. Would go totally haywire when unsure of its position.
TomTom GO 600 - Meh I prefer the 2050 – I got the product because my TomTom 2050 died and it was under warranty and I was given the 600 as a replacement. I actually didn't want this product and would have preferred the 2050 or the 6000 which apparently is not coming to Australia. The device looks slicker and its easy to see, its nice to have lifetime maps and the snazzy 3d maps do… Read more
look nice... but at a price.
In previous versions of TomTom it would keep previous locations I entered into its memory for easy access, have trouble differentiating between POI on route and off route and will not tell you exactly they are. For example I want to find a McDonalds on my way but it gives you a list of places but in no logical order or if its on route or just off route. Its a 6 inch display and when I want to drive somewhere I have to re-click a tiny blue steering wheel to confirm or if I don't want tolls on the route I have a small time window to click a button and swipe a tiny switch sideways to get it to work otherwise I have to re-input it and click no tolls within the time window.
I pay for the best because I want it to just work and now I have to tether my phone to it which drains my battery. I would rather pay $50 extra for tomtom send the device the info as my phone regularly turns tethering off.
As this was a replacement I will probably give this to my grandmother and get something better when it comes out or hope a software update fixes some issues. Its not worth the price as I would assume its more of a mid range but with the current range of TomTom there is nothing better Nice Big Screen, Snazzy maps and interface, unlimited maps in 3d Not as userfriendly as the old one, missing features from previous TomToms I come to expect, constantly remembering to tether my phone get annoying
