TomTom GO 910

Great device when working – The device has been good. However...I have had to have it repaired twice - this involves resoldering connections apparently. I haven't been happy with the designated repair company - Teleplan - seems they are the only ones in the whole of Australia that are authorized to repair TomTom's - so we're stuck. The first time (a year ago) I'd sent it in,… Read more
kept in contact with the hopeless tracking system they provide on line. Rang them up to see what was happening & they had misplaced the device. This time I sent the device along with the original computer/cradle connector, which we had verified as not working during an earlier phone call, & the second computer/cradle connector that I bought from them a week earlier to replace the original "broken" one. I filled in all the online data required, attached the identifying job number to each item & also sent an email to say what was on its way to them to get repaired as they had suggested.
Well, the device arrived today - but none of the computer/cradle connectors. I rang to ask where they were & was told it wasn't in the job description & they will look in to it. I haven't heard back yet.
TomTom is fine but not happy with the monopoly that Teleplan has. Easy of use, storage ability Weak soldering in device has caused it to fail at least once a year & this device has always been handled carefully. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend based purely on the follow up service. Ome of us rely heavily on these devices.
Bad – For such a heavy unit the mount is simply insufficient and you would be better off with other units from other manufacturers at this price point. Their customer service is frankly poor (in Aus anyway) and I wouldn't be buying another one. Good screen size, easy to use and intuitive interface. Can't be read using polarised sunglasses (apparently… Read more
fixed in later models, hopeless in sunlight anyway and the hard disks appear somewhat fragile. The mount is shocking as it allows vertical movement and I note that this has been changed for the 720/920.
Terrible – TOMTOM is one of the easiest navigators to use but definately do not buy a GO 910 or any other where the unit sits on a cradle with the electronic contacts built in. from vibration etc in vehicle the unit is now loose and contacts have stopped working causing the device to stop charging. now the unit will not even turn on after several hrs… Read more
charging on the desk charger. I am extremely unhappy as this was one of the most expensive units on offer at the time. easy to use, plenty of user settings to customise in-vehicle cradle malfunctioned after just 26 months rendering this device useless and worthless. transmitts a buzzing noise whenever music is played through it. a trip computer would be good.
Good – I am happy with the brand, and the features tom tom has.. Occassionally the unit freezes and needs a full reset. Data isn't lost, and I've got around it by having a small paperclip in the car to reset it with when needed. I'd definetly buy another tom tom when the time comes, though I'll make sure the unit is much thinner so that it can be… Read more
easier to carry around when I travel. * easy to use
* used in several cities and worked every time... * unit size.. not pocket friendly!
* visibility in strong light isn't great
* would like to be able to select a "range" and only have it display locations etc within that range..
* As much as I love the fact it is for all of Australia.. I'd much prefer my day to day searches to be within say a 100km of the CBD I'm in..
* Great if it had save my trip, as to the way I actually went.. not the way it suggests...
