TomTom RIDER

Great Decision – When you are anywhere unfamiliar having GPS is a must.....especially on a motorcycle when having to stop to read a map is a real chore. My Tom Tom Rider is hard wired so no battery issues to worry about. If you want to use it in the car all you need is a cigarette lighter USB adapter and away you go. The screen is always easy to read and I think… Read more
has all the features you need to find your'e way around.
The sound commands coming through my intercom system are very clear and easy to hear.....could not be happier.
Very disappointing – !st one fell off the mount somewhere between Bundaburg and Gin Gin, Tom Tom rep organized a replacement, after 18 months it stopped. Paid $181 for a battery replacement with in 12 months it also stopped. Been taken to many wrong addresses and there were times it wouldnt/couldnt locate a street or main Hwy. Bought a Strike to replace the Tom Tom,… Read more
much better system, stronger mounting devise and has not failed in any way
1/ kept switching off after 4+ hours of use. 2/ could not locate roads even on main highways it did not recognize
Excellent – Used as a satelite navigation system this product is top of the range, the sound is very clear and can be in a varienty of different voices, including ones that you can record yourself. An ideal product for long journeys or even short ones when you don't know the way, the sound is in advance so that there is no need to look at it and get… Read more
distracted, it is also very accurate, whereas some similar products frustrate you by taking you the wrong way, this tomtom rider has proved to be very accurate for me as it has never taken me to a wrong turn. Sound, Colour, Accuracy Style
OK – This little unit is good for the bike. The only trouble is i have used it in my car also but it does not come with a car charger as you have to buy it seperately, so really you can only mainly use this Gps on the motorbike. I would not go any where without my GPS especially when in a different city GPS are a great excellent easy way to get around… Read more
a strange place. Great for getting around town without a map on a bumpy road the charging line sometimes gets loose and so the unit does not charge and can run out of battery just when you need it.
OK – I've had this for a while now & I've found it to be extremely useful to the point where I take it everywhere, Car, bike or scooter. It's been a piece of cake to set up routes to go for a long country ride and just enjoy the ride without having to stop to read a map. A friend emailed me a route from his Tomtom One, all I had to do was plug it into… Read more
the computer to download it.
It may be a bit pricey bit you do get everything in the box, from the ear piece to mounting brackets.
The sound through the helmet is clear & the volume is well controlled when the wind noise increases. Being able to answer phone calls while riding is worth half the price tag on it's own.
The mounting brackets in the box are pretty universal & should fit just about everything with the exception of maybe a large tourer with busy handlebars.
Though I've found a huge range of interchangeable & bike specific mounts on the net.
The maps installed were a couple of years out of date & updates are not cheap.
The biggest downside to this gadget is the software. When it works it works really well with good features, However it is extremely temperamental, difficult to set up and brain explodingly frustrating when it refuses to cooperate.
For example, the moment I clipped it into the car kit for the first time it refused to connect the SCALA head set again.
After a software update it also refused to connect to the phone, then the headset again, then it was unable to find any POIs.
At times it felt like I was stacking apples on a tiny shelf, as I got one feature to work another would drop off. Eventually it will all work together, but you can't help tiptoeing away trying not to upset it. Easy to use, well thought out, very useful piece of kit. Seriously unreliable software,Maps were out of date from new.
