usless crap – I also have via 160 aust maps cannot be updated when you finally find your way into the program it only shows maps for every country overseas nothing for australia usless piece of crap if you cant update maps will I buy another tom tom when I bought the unit I was told 4 free updates never been used
Good for what is – Easy to use, basic commands, wont update through my old power p.c unfortunatly, but easy through my wifes mac pro. can be a pain with address limitations, but you get what you pay for in a low cost device.
Via 160 – Never had a problem with this device. easy to use easy to upgrade. I am the original computer dinosaur. I have also given one to my university grandson and even he can operate it so it can't be that difficult. My neighbour also a dinosaur has one and if he can use it anyone can. He has trouble putting drill bits in a keyless chuck. The only person… Read more
who has trouble with the VIA 160 is my web page designing son, he just looks for problems Just so easy to use nothing
The Total Waste Of Time – I was given a TomTom VIA160 a while ago, so I have to live with the infernal device. The VIA160 is telling me that the map needs updating. All very well, but why make such a simple task so infuriatingly difficult? I try to sign in and all that comes up is a message that my E-mail address and Pass word are incorrect. So, what does a mere… Read more
mortal do?
Also, why is there so much automation while keying-in a destination address?
Thankfully, there is the 'Take Me Home' facility once I am completely lost.
Another gripe - why have a toenail fungus advertisement when I am trying to update my device.
Impossible to carry out recommended updates.
Not even useful as a doorstop – The most reliably unreliable piece of electronics I've ever had the misfortune of owning. Requires constant updates, wont stick to the window, and simply cannot be relied upon to operate when you need it. Appalling representation in New Zealand - once you've bought one you are on your own. Cannot get parts in store. It simply isn't reliable
It's perfectly fine – Not had all these problems as the other reviewers seem to have had. It's been reliable, quick to get satellites, and the pairing with my iPhone was easy. Maps updated with Mac, and free lifetime maps too, and I got it for a bargain at Dick Smith for $80. Looks pretty good too. Inexpensive, reliable, accurate, good mounting kit. Battery life is not great, but what GPS is? Show reply
poor performance – Bad GPS, hangs often, asks for soft wear update almost daily..some thing is very wrong. Will never get tom tom ever again Bad GPS. hangs often, asks for soft wear update almost daily..some thing is very wrong. Will never get tom tom ever again . Worst GPS I ever had – Purchased this GPS on special for $96. The map even after update looked very old. Never shown my 20 years old house. Even if you power off the car, it remains on. When you write the street address you are only allowed to write digits. e.g you can't write house number 34A only 34!!! Map issue, problem with everything.
Buy another brand – The performance of the GPS is very poor when near tall buildings or overhanging trees. Instructions are unhelpful, for example a critical turn is announced several minutes and 5 roads too early with no more announcements until you are actually at the turn (when it is too late). User interface doesn't work e.g. Entered Sydney as the City and then… Read more
Kent Street, the unit offered a street in BRISBANE as the best match!
Claims to have a 2 hour battery life - but after 10 minutes the low battery symbol appears.
But I bought it for the voice activated mode - "Navigate to Home" is understood as "Nighttime view". When it gets a command wrong it refuses to accept the "Cancel" command and does not offer a manual button. Bought for the voice activated mode which does not work Poor GPS performance, Bad Guidance, Confusing to use, Voice input does not even come close to working
Unreliable and hard to use – I brought a new tom-tom to replace the one I had for 4 years, that one was also replaced after 3 weeks as it just locked up.Anyway thought I would stick to a brand I new about ,bad mistake. The new one just lost its voice and volume on the first trip and then shut off at will.So back to the shop and another one,not much better, wouldn't link to my… Read more
account and very poor service from Tom-tom.
This new unit also did not much more than my 4 year old tom tom apart from blue tooth and voice control which was terrible and impossible to use.
Now after confidence lost I returned to Harvey Normans and they swapped it for the same value Garmin 2360lt
This unit is streets ahead of the tom-tom in my opinion. Anyway I would never buy another Tom tom unit .
Faulty, hard to use and some features are impossible.
Nothing happened – I received one of these fro Christmas. I did everything that it said to do by the book and couldn't get it to do anything! Nothing! Tried redoing things, still nothing! Taking it back and shopping for something else!!! look Wouldn't function!
