Best Tomtom Ever Made. New HERE maps are still made for these but not officially through Tomtom – These were one of the Best GPS Tomtom ever made. I still use one of these in 2022. Even though Tomtom no longer officially sells the maps for these they still actually post to their servers up to date versions of them.... Show details

Waste of time – Do not waste your money on these units. I brought one from Dick Smith and the guy told me it has free maps - like every other Tomtom they have, it doesn't. Once you load it up you'll find the maps are out of date, mine told me there have been 5 updates since it was released, but here's the kicker, you need to pay 65 pounds (yes UK pounds) to… Read more

update it. I have another TomTom but will be going to Navman next (get NZ as well) - this is just a rip off, fancy not at least updating the maps.

I'm very disappointed with this unit, it is a very basic and the lack of maps means I'll be binning it very quickly.

Waste of money. Size of screen Have to pay to get current map, have to pay cost of unit again to get new maps, no bluetooth, slow.

Additional - I was informed that with a new unit I get 90 days of free maps - you need to go onto… Read more

Slow and inaccurate – The worst part about this is the time it takes to recalculate - and by the time it does that you have missed all the turns - sometimes I just stop on the side of the road if I can and wait for it to recalculate. Its not a cheap GPS retailing at over 200 as well and you would expect that the roads be updated - it has sent me on a few dead ends as well. Slow. Inaccurate. Doesnt sometimes give advance notice to turns

Simple and easy and relible – This is my first gps I have owned and I am very happy I purchased this model. It has been around for awhile. I paid $149.00 from DSE, and when I registered it, I found to my delight I was not just getting one year x3 map updates but three years !! so I was totally over the moon. My research of gps, revealed that most believe 3 years is the period… Read more

before upgrading to a new model.

I purchased this machine as I moving to Brisbane after living in Darwin for over 40 years. My hope is that with this GPS, I will be able to get around the Petrie area of Brisbane without too much difficult and not get lost. I did not need all the bells and whistles of the newer machines as I am retired now and will not be travelling regular in peak traffic. Knowing where accidents were and being diverted to another route also did not seem to important either as my timetable is quite flexible these days. I wanted something easy, simply, relible and cheap.

I have started using the gps in Darwin and it working fantastic. It was easy to set up after charging the machine, and off I went. There is a selection of voices to direct you. I do not find it any more difficult to add my destination in using the postcode or the suburb, then the street and number. I understand on the newer gps you can just go to the street name and select which one you want. I love the five inch screen. I did fiddle abit first to attach the machine to the windscreen but I got it sorted and all is good. I like the layout of the screen, it not too busy. I like that it tell me well in advance to prepare to turn giving me sufficient time to change lanes if necessary.

I think for a simple and relible gps to get you from A to B that does not cost a fortune the 540 xxl version is the ideal one. Buy it by September (or was it the end of ) and you too will get the additional map upgrades. I cannot recommend this more highly.. Cheap, relible, easy and very simple.. 5 inches !!! Does not make a cuppa :)

Good GPS but not perfect – Recently updated from an older (smaller) TomTom model. There's no surprises and everything's where it should be in terms of menu layout etc. The mounting bracket is a bit silly but seems to work okay. I went back to TomTom after a very brief and totally disastrous flirtation with a Uniden GPS. That was a BIG mistake. The TomTom's not perfect by… Read more

any means but it's reliable and gets the job done. There are of course quicker routes which the GPS doesn't recognise but that's something 'local knowledge' is going to win every time irrespective of GPS brand.

I'd like to see an option to avoid certain roads such as tollways / unsealed roads etc but all in all a good solid unit. Easy to see, uncluttered screen Refresh times not as quick as could be.

OK – Pretty good would not give it away but have half an idea of where you are going. Do not rely on the Tom Tom to get you to your destination without taking you on the scenic route. I apparently bought it with the latest map update, don't believe it though as it took me to a road I know closed several years ago...... Large device and reasonably… Read more

easy to use and vey clear instructions. Little slow to recalculate and I don't think the distance is totally accurate when it is calculating how far before you have to turn.
