Not Bad but has it's issues – I've owned this for 3 years now and from time to time it seems to get confused that requires a full reboot or firmware update. clear the unit does see the remote. It had the latest firmware update installed "jan 2016" and still no success. So as a last resort I reinstalled an earlier version of the firmware and presto it is working fine again and the remote works fine. Sadly Topfield are no longer around but if this helps someone ,Great! A real shame as it is actually a good PVR and easy to use.

Bad product – This is my 3rd Topfield, and like others the HDD has died. Had previous unit repaired but still failed to work on return from Topfield. Tried contact re current unit failure, but all contact points ave been locked out. Interesting that Harvey Norman and Good Guys no longer stock Topfield, but previous post answers all. No Service Under Warranty for Topfield – This is my second Topfield PVR. Both the same problem, the hard drive died, this new one only 7 months old. Topfield cannot be contacted by phone today (25/7/2016) and I received a strange email suggesting I contact their lawyer. So no service under warranty. Looks like Topfield could be gone? absolute rubbish – it freezes, it doesn't record, it loses signal...got a new arial proffessionaly fitted, had house re cabled all new connections and a signal boost to boot still fails...throw jims antennas in for the fail as well. This is almost perfect, pitty it's discontinued – Having posted this review. Two days latter on the 17th, the TRF-7260 unit on play back is now freezing within seconds of pressing OK on high lighted files. I tried several previously record files. component red green blue only works on AV settings auto and 576i. All remaining settings results in television screen incorrect horizontal scan frequency. I shall return the unit to Harvey Norman.

Before I review my recently purchased Topfield TFR-7260. I long age purchased a Topfield TF-5010PVRtH. This older Topfield 250gb version was great for watching news stories. You can switch to a news channel on TF-5010 showing news and watch something else on another dvr/pvr. When commercials came on I switched back to the TF-5010. I than shifted back to the beginning, moved through news stories to hear what stories were about, ignoring all murders and crime stories. When something of interest was heard I moved the shift point to before the interesting story and pressed the record button. No prompting boxes came up to ask if I wanted to record the Shift. The TF-5010 started recording at that point selected in time shift. What was seen was the beginning of the recording. Press stop button and the recorded file goes the end of the recording while still recording. If the story wasn't interesting, I pressed press stop for the second time to stop the recording, resulting a completed file.

My disappointment with Topfield TFR-7260 is that by reading an Internet PDF file on the unit, it would be easy to believe the TFR-7260 does the same as I described as TF5010. Instructions supplied with TFR-7260 had no information on shift copying.

The TFR-7260 looks fine up the point where if shifting to before beginning point of recording what was wanted. Pressing record button is prompted with a box that asked if I wanted to record the Shift. Ok, “yes” records the entire shift from the time the channel was selected, and than the recording stops at the end of the shift, giving a large file that needs to be look through to find the beginning of the copy point to end copy at what ever point remains.

After TFR-7260 stops recording a shift recording, a new recording of a new file continues needing to be stopped. The unit front panel does show a small REC recording light in the same colour blue as all other display lights show.

I may as well record the entire news program as a file going through the file later.

Most remote controls are small buttoned. I believe remote control buttons should be larger with wider distances between buttons for the average European larger finger sizes compared to Asian smaller fingers.

My TFR-7260 remote control has good inferred receiving abilities. Distances from remote to receiving Topfield dvr unit are very good. The receiving unit receives inferred information, 10 metres away, reflecting inferred off a cream coloured wall.

The digital guide is good; renaming files is fine; searching recorded files using percent channel numbers is good; quick moving through files after pressing play mode is good; pressing fast forwards and fast backwards speeds is good.

The only thing that is disappointing is the shift recording at the point of wanting to record and the immediate stop after pressing OK on “yes” for recording shift.

Next suggestion is that HD recording files consumes twice the space on the hard drive than what standard definition channels consumes, allowing reluctant thoughts of keeping HD file recordings for any considerable period.

Nothing is perfect, so 4 stars for this Topfield, from what I have been told is an end of production model TFR-7260.

Topfield quality has paused and been deleted – I have had a number of topfield units and over time they start out perfect, I'll give them that then..... Then They fail fail and fail. Huge issues relating to reception quality – I had huge issues with this and I thought I was buying the best PVR but it comes down to problems with reception. I learned on a website that you must have between 50 - 80% reception quality. If your signal is too low or too high then the PVR becomes unusable. their sound and picture not matching, freeze completely. Most of my recordings were unwatchable. Took the unit back twice, got a replacement, still same problem. Tried buying a copper lead as suggested for perfect reception. Still the same problem. May be because the signal is too high, need to get a good Antenna man out to investigate the problem, suggests the salesman. I don't have any problem with my old Philips unit nor did I have a problem with my old Senzu. Sorry but Topfield is useless in my opinion and all due to this sensitive Tuner issue. Hope I don't have the same problem with other brands. I will soon find out. Luckily the store was happy to give me a full refund after going in there for the third time.

This is perfect. Should have got it earlier – Thought to get a PVR after the tuner of my TV suddenly died. Looked at various models of Topfiled and Panasonic one. one at the price $314 ($275 + $39 two year replacement extended warranty).

The set up was quite easy, but the loading time is bit longer. Connected to TV using HDMI and found the TV signal reception quality was not great and only found ABC channels. At the same time, my another TV unit could find all the channels. Did search on the internet and found HDMI may have an impact on the TV signal. Tried composite video connection and found all the channels easily. I also found the TV signal was also poor when I turned on my satellite receiver. May need to upgrade my TV cable from the wall to PVR unit or get a TV signal amplifier.

Happy with the range remote controller (not a problem at 4~5 metres), live pause and play (up to 5 hours), easy use on screen menu and good image quality.

So far, so good.

Cheap and Nasty.......Really Nasty – Went to a Topfield due to a 'reasonable' review from a friend. His has since died and mine is unfortunately looking like its dying as well. randomly gets confused when attempting to record multiple channels. Only remedy seems to be to turn the whole unit off at the wall for several minutes.

Only purchased 3 months ago and it'll be going back to JB HiFi the next time it 'freezes'.

I will not be buying another Topfield anytime soon.

Dealership I bought that piece of technological "marvel" from let me know that I am not the first customer experiencing this and that it most likely is the unit's hard-drive or both decomposing! Given that it costs bit more than a box of matches, I would expect some quality from the so called "Technology Leader"! If their PVR units only last 6 month, they should say so! good, reliable unit at a very reasonable price – This unit is very easy to use. easily records 2 programs while playing back a previously recorded show. Like the feature like IQ which shows how far behind live time you are while "chasing." only feature i have seen on other units which this one doesnt have, is to play back at about 1.3x speed with normal sound , which is use ful for sports. Not much point spending the extra $$$ for the record function – I bought this late last year when we moved to a unit which didn't support terrestrial channel with Foxtel. It has caused nothing but upset by not recording our favourite programmes. I use the intelligent record and the program before or after is recorded instead or nothing is recorded. The 7620 is fairly similar to the Topfield 2400/2460. It's a slightly smaller case, but operates much the same, which means it's a very capable twin tuner/quad recording PVR with a 500GB HDD and can run TAPs*. One minor limitation is the single USB socket around the rear of the case, so anyone needing frequent access to that would be wise to buy a cheap USB extension cable. There's also a LAN socket also at the rear along with the usual HDMI and AV contacts. SD from a Foxtel tuner can be recorded using an AV input.

*TAPs are Topfield's mini-apps, -small apps available free on-line, and offering a whole suite of extra features - not unlike adding apps to a basic iPhone. If a wifi dongle is included/added to the 7620, then these TAPs can even be listed, selected and installed on-screen, otherwise they can be transferred via any old USB thumbdrive, and run manually or automatically when switched on.

With a handful of free TAPs and a wifi dongle, my Topfield 7620 (and my 2400) can jump ads during playback or 'live' timeshift, auto-scan the broadcast program guide for, say 'Doc Martin' ('only the latest series'), and then set timers to record these with a preset buffer either end in case I miss a bit. If I want to transfer these files to any other media player such as my PC, iPad or Samsung phone, or even to another Topfield, then I can do that wirelessly by a variety of appropriate PC, Apple or Android programs, or again manually by using a USB drive.

One TAP, and free Apple, Microsoft and Android apps, even allows me to see an image of the Topfield remote on any PC, tablet or smartphone screen. I 'press' the buttons and see an image of the EPG, File list, Timer list or Topfield menu pop up. With this setup I can see what's going to be showing on TV at home 7 days ahead and maybe set some new searches/timers, and make some more room on the 7620 by moving some recorded files to my PC - while I'm lying in bed .... in London!

That's why I reckon, like some other Topfields, the 7260 is a proper PVR. Inexpensive, very capable twin tuner with quad HD recording true PVR. HDMI/USB/LAN. Built-in Intelligent Recording. Runs TAPs. Firmware updates. Wifi dongle option. Single rear USB. Depending on firmware, limited on-line media (YouTube, ShoutCast, Twitter, etc.)

Very good value unit – I agree with #7667, it is a good value unit, with an EPG much better than the older SD Topfield 4400 we have. That was a welcome change. I have had no issues with the PVR itself at all so far, and will post updates as time passes. It is not aimed at households with pay TV however, you need a more capable box in that case. at Good Guys, when JB HiFi are currently selling for less, but that is my fault for being inattentive. I remember the salesperson saying to me she would match any other offer, now I know what she was thinking LOL.

The only gripe is the inadequate user manual, really disgraceful for a consumer unit of this type, but you can mostly get around this by getting the manual for the similar 7160 from the Net. Easy setup, quad recording (from 2 networks), good EPG Really minimal uninformative user guide.

First Class PVR – Purchased this PVR at JB HiFi for around $275. Set up was easy and it worked first time brilliantly! Was able to record 4 programs and watch another as stated. Later I set the web server feature which again worked flawlessly. Playback seamless and the remote functions especially inteligent recording worked well. Looking forward to installing TAPs. Ease of use intuitive interface None as yet
