Failed after 1 month of operation! – Bought this HD from Office Works Dee Why in Dec 2020, used it briefly and it failed mid Jan 21. Cannot recover data, completely failed. Cannot even see it come up as D: drive on any machine or format it. Even though it's under warranty, I now have to battle to have it replaced as I cannot leave the drive with the store as there is sensitive work… Read more

material on it.

I was told specifically to buy Toshiba as they are suppose to be reliable. Not so sure now. I see others are having issues with these USB drives too...

Embedded port on hard drive. A complete ripoff – Completely useless if the port breaks. Just use a standard 2.5inch hard drive and put it in case. Wth is wrong with Toshiba. It's completely useless now as the port broke. Show details

No issues at all – Not sure why others have had problems, guess maybe it is that people are more inclined to review when they have had a perceived problem than when everything is fine as expected. I have been fortunate and never had a problem with this item or any other of my Toshiba products. Very happy and trust all my valuable info to its clutches. Show details

The tiny cable makes it hard to use and is actually an INSULT – The ridiculously short cable really degrades the value of this. I have to put it on the top of my desk, vulnerable near the window (which I keep open for air most of the time I am here, including while alseep). If it was just a BIT longer, I could put it safely under the table. This is just INCONSIDERATE LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE ! A very bad indicator TOSHIBA ! Show details

Rubbish – I have three 1TB Canvio drives. All have bad blocks after only light use. Utter rubbish. I will have to buy three new drives. That'll teach me for not forking out a little extra on Seagate, my preferred drive. I have three of them and they are just fine. Show details

poor internal design – Toshiba Canvio Basics harddrives are cheap but also poorly designed. The USB interface has been built onto the harddisk and after some use I found the USB port to be very unreliable and frequently disconnecting the drive and corrupting files that were open at the time. Most likely caused by a broken solder connection, there is no way to move the… Read more

harddrive to another case because it lacks the typical SATA interface, i.e. once the USB port is worn or fails, the harddrive becomes useless.

Great unit. Takes a lot of hard knocks – Great unit. Takes a lot of hard knocks. This unit has kept going through a lot of hard times. It has worked on every conceivable angle and has been filled with numerous file types. Did suffer some minor data loss though I am not certain it was any fault in the drive. Thanks.  Show details

Do Not Buy any product from Toshiba – Unreliable product, it expect to broken down after few use. Can't retrieve the valuable datas and best advice given is buy another hard drive to backup the first! What a point to have a hard drive that going to break down? Bad company, bad product and bad customer service. Never going to buy any Toshiba products as they are expected to be broken down in no time. Waste of money and worst lose years of valuable datas that can't be retrieved!  Show details

Rubbish product and customer service was awful – The USB port had a bad connection on the printed circuit board and broke off within the first few days. Toshiba are known for quality products so why they are producing cheap inferior products like this is bewildering. Customer support was was absolutely disgusting. Pay a little more and buy a WD or seagate.  Show details

Warning - Do Not Buy As Your Data Will Be 'kaput' In No Time – The rating for this drive should be -5 and more. I bought this HDTB110AK3BA Toshiba Ext HDD 1 TB USB 3.0 thinking that it was the best of the bunch, how disappointed was I!!! This drive was only used (occasionally) for backup purposes. I foolishly put all my valuable data onto it and not even 12 months later the HDD sensor head went 'Kaput'… Read more

without ever being able to recover my tons of valuable data. What a disappointing piece of absolute garbage this dive is and Toshiba has no backup or even a repairable warranty. I spoke to Toshiba and they said that they 'DON'T REPAIR HDD's' but if they go faulty then they replace them, how convenient and how poor of an excuse that is for warranty!!! My advice to anyone contemplating on buying Toshiba HDD's to not touch them with a 1000km pole as you have no backing and once your drive dies its your responsibility to recover your valuable data at a very considerable price, not worth it.

My 3 are working fine – Cannot agree with what I read here... it is good that folks with issues let us all know, but with all 3 of my canvio basics have not had any problems. But I have taken note of what others have said just in case.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH FROM TOSHIBA - DO NOT PURCHASE – I have purchased 4 of these and paid approximately $100 each for them and only one is still working and I am too frightened to remove it from the computer because I know it will no longer work. I have removed the other three and none of them now work. I am unable to format any of them and when you plug them into a USB 2 or USB3 port they just… Read more

will not work and I am still trying to find a solution to the problem as all my back up information is on them but I am unable to access any of it because these external hard drives are ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. I purchased them from Officeworks.

Poorly constructed – All of the Canvio drives are built very cheaply. The Usb socket is prone to falling apart. I lost my data within 3 weeks of purchasing my drive because of this. I would have plugged/unplugged the cord less then 10 times in total.

Do not buy ! – Nice little unit, USB 3 capable, but the USB cable has a proprietary connector at the HDD end and the USB 3.0 connector is extremely unreliable, at least when plugged into a USB 2.0 port. The slightest bump will cause the connection to drop, requires constant fiddling to maintain the connection. Not the only model with this problem. Search for… Read more

Toshiba Canvio USB problem. Small compact unit, rounded edges, easy to carry around USB connection extremely flakey
