Toshiba Canvio Connect II

First And Last – I've owned 2 Toshiba laptops in the past and thought they were rock solid. While I'd normally gravitate towards Seagate drives, I couldn't go past these 2TB drives at under $100. They were cheaper than their Seagate competitor drives so I thought I'd give one a whirl. Plugged it in and everything seemed to be running well and as expected. However, after copying over movie files and taking them to the living room TV to plug it in, the cord accidentally fell out of my hand and the drive crashed onto the TV unit. Not a great fall by any means. I've had Seagate drives bounce off the floor numerous times and still worked. This guy on the other hand just clicked when plugged back in. Not much you can do except throw it away and get a new one. I guess you get what you pay for. I didn't even take it apart, but I'd so there's bugger all vibration cushioning in the case All up, I only had it for a week and wasn't real impressed that it couldn't take a little bump. So that will be the first and last Toshiba drive for me.
Purchased in at Officeworks Physical store for $99.
Too stingy to provide a decent length cable this time (40cm) – I'm very annoyed that I spent over $100 on this drive and Toshiba is too cheap to provide a cable of a decent length (unlike the last time I bought it). The cable is a chode of only about 40 cm - not much longer than a ruler. THE RESULT is that I can't put it UNDER my desk, only on the top of my desk, near my window, which is not an IDEAL place for a backup drive, since someone could reach through and grab it.
Now I have to go out and buy a decent size cable.
The LAST time I bought this drive, the cable was long enough for the drive to go under my desk.
Shame on you Toshiba!

NOTE: Someone else said that they should have bought the Canvio Basics, because they didn't need the backup software.
One thing to be aware of is the Basics has a shorter warranty as well.

Great! – Haven't had this portable hard drive for long, but so far very impressed with it. Very quick transfer speeds & size wise it is quite a small hard drive. I use it as additional storage on my PS4 and haven't had any issues at all with load times. I think it actually loads the games quicker to be honest!

Little tiny disk with big spaces – Bought this Toshiba Canvio series during OW sales recently. Pay less get more. So far very happy with this little tiny disk especially with USB-3 connector make read and write faster compare with the old USB connector. Operation wise is smooth and hardly heard the disk spinning at all. The only issue is I can't take the disk out without breaking the case or re-use the case.

Reasonably Priced Portable Hard Drive Let Down by its Backup Software – Hard Drive seems OK and does what it is meant to. I purchased it to back up a laptop and chose it because it came with backup software. The software is not great and you cannot check the files to be sure the back up has worked properly. I'll be removing the software and reformatting the drive to do it myself. Should have brought the cheaper basic version without the back up software.
