Poor customer service – Avoid at all costs. When this doesn't work in your PC, such as disk cannot be read and not located under disk management, Toshiba don't want to know. The will not supply update drivers or any support at all. All care and NO RESPONSIBILITY They are happy to sell but offer no support

Terrific for set-and-forget external backup – The unit we have here is 1TB. It's USB3, so look for the (usually) blue-coloured sockets on your computer to take advantage of an optimal data-transfer rate. Connected to my computer, what I've set it up to do is to back up / sync / archive all of my personal / user files; ranging from documents and pictures to music and videos. So, how does that work? Well (being a Windows 10 user), I employ a lesser-known but fantastic feature of the operating system called File History. I'll tell you where to find it: Settings > Update & Security > Backup. Have a good look at 'More options' under the 'Automatically back up my files' off-on toggle switch, to customise the automatic backup / sync according to your own preferences. Then, whenever this external drive is plugged into your computer, File History, which constantly monitors changes to the data on your computer, transfers the updates to the Toshiba Canvio Ready. And so, your data is progressively archived, to be restored if necessary. You can still use it to store / transfer / transport files in the usual manner. How truly wonderfully easy! Why not get two, since they're so cost effective: one for your desktop that stays connected all the time, and one that travels everywhere with your laptop. PS: there are many backup programs available, and I have tried numerous, but till now I have not found anything as useful, simple and effective as File History.

Good Little Unit - No Problems – I bought this Toshiba Canvio 1Tb from Officeworks about 4 months ago and haven't had any problems with it. It doesn't do much, sits on the desk and gets used for storage and it's doing that just fine. It's a simple no software HDD with new disk and data protection features. I wish I'd bought two of them because the WD Elements I bought at the same time has already died and the warranty was not honoured either.
