For the price these little cameras are hard to beat. The picture is clear, it has alot of features within the app in line with the more expensive brands. It tracks people and animals without an issue. I now have multiple of these around my house. I only ever had an issue with one not connecting to bluetooth, but I bought it back to JB Hifi and… Read more
it was replaced without question. Hard to beat for the price.
I am yet to experience what their customer service is like so unsure there, and unsure how long they will last, but at this price point I would be happy if I get 2 years out of it.
Wonderful product. I can talk to my family via the TP-link Tapo when I am away from home with the microphone call feature. It has a wonderful range of rotation. It is fantastic value for money, very affordable compared to everything else on the market. The visibility on the night mode is very clear & the sound quality is precise. The app… Read more
is very user friendly. Camera is easy to set up and install. I have purchased 2 more Tapos so that I can watch my pets when I am not home and the notifications are super convenient.
one of the best CCTV cameras on the market. easy to use and set up. Great price point – Just wanted to say this camera is very good. I use it for indoor use. i took my time with options and brands. i saw many great reviews on this particular device and i can confirm the reviews were what helped myself with going for this one. Yes it only has the tapo app to work with. however, one can use android emulation (there are many options.… Read more
Bluestack is the simple one to start with). This allows you to run the tapo app within windows and linux based OS. this means one can watch over there place 24/7 as i do. i use my apple phone, android phone and Linux and windows android emulation. The Tapo app is very easy to use and set up. I run my camera with ethernet as i am funny about wifi and security. you can run it with wifi if you wish also. having the Ethernet connection option sold me right away. the pan till is amazing. i have my unit screw to the side of a desktop selving unit this way its neat and wired with all my devices and connected near by to my router via ethernet. i can literally pan tilt and view my living room apartment in real time 24/7. i dont get unwanted notifications, meaning that the motion detection is near perfect. you can use default alarms or recored 15 seconds with a custom message. this way when it detects movement or motion it triggers the desired alarmed you choose. it has a spot light and it will strobe as a deterant with the alarm with any detection. The audio capture is very good also. You can use audio blast, Meaning there is an option in the apps interface which allows you to talk through the camera at anytime (particularly if you see offenders in video capture). you can use local stage and it works very well. There is no need for any subsriptions this way. Although there is the subscription model options with a few more features. I use a 64gb micro sd card and this is way more then enough to be completely honest. as it will over time record loop over older unwanted video recordings. all in all this is an amazing CCTV system and the app works extremely well. I write all this as it is hard to find any decent reviews at times and this is a great product. it is for out door use. but i have it for my indoor unit and it works extremely well. The star light chip gives great night capture. i know again its for outdooor. but the ethernet option and durabilty is what i wanted. being on a top floor of a high rise unit can get hot if i am not home with AC on. so i want it ot be able to handle outdoor type heat. again , this is an amazing product. it works as good as any of the Vrn and dvr systems. I know this as i am a building manager for my building and we have both hilook and hikvision deterant systems in the high rise building. this tp link unit is as good and could be better :-)
Fantastic camera system which is easy to install for outdoor use where mains power and a router are nearby – Trying to decide on an appropriate domestic security camera is quite a challenge as there seems to be a plethora of them on the market and the risk of wasting your money can seem quite high to a newbie in this game! I purchased this particular sophisticated IP66 weatherproof pan/tilt camera through JB HiFi, to provide live imagery and on-camera… Read more
(SD) recordings of any human or animal activity at the bottom section of our garden - which is where we have trespass issues and native animals entering our property and damaging our garden. This unit needed to be set up so that its presence doesn't make our neighbours on the other side of the bottom of our garden feel uncomfortable - so the fact you can remotely tweak the direction it points in is very useful. The camera is currently mounted high on a corner of our garage - it is a separate building some 30m from our house. I purchased this particular unit as a) the camera and its associated app have really useful and easy to use features; b) I have used Tapo/TP-Link products in the past and been very happy with them; c) this package seemed to offer exceptional value for money (AUD149); c) it was cheap enough that if it didn't work out I wouldn't 'lose' much money; and d) it had connected power and ethernet for more connection stability (can also be operated through wi-fi). The garage has a wifi access point (router) linked to the main router in the house through a powerline network connection (runs around (7-11Mbps). The camera is connected by an ethernet cable to the garage access point and is powered through a supplied charger unit plugged into a mains socket in the garage. I can assure you that installation of the camera and physical connection to the garage data access point was very simple, with Tapo supplying suitable cabling and waterproof electrical connections already attached to the camera. The App setup was also a breeze as is the live operation of the camera. The camera was quickly recognised by the app on my extended network and setting it for 2K resolution seems to work ok so far. The quality of the video feed is impressive. I am very impressed at this early stage of my use of this unit! Well done Tapo.
Phenomenal camera and experience – Brought this camera after having nothing but trouble with my swann swifi wifi camera to the point it was completely unusable. As soon as I hooked up the camera I noticed the amazing difference in picture quality and features! I had a little issue with motion tracking within the detection zone which the tech support team went to huge lengths over… Read more
a series of weeks of updates and small setting changes that has made it an amazing camera, perfect detection day and night and no false recordings. Spotlight turns on with movement at night and with the addition of a tapo wifi globe above my front door, both work simultaneously with any detection at night. I cannot fault this camera or the above and beyond customer service I received from Cliff from tech support and the Research and development team! I have never had such good, honest customer service and I have recommended this camera to all my friends and family. I will only buy tapo from now on! Outstanding!!
Edit: I have now bought another 2 tapo cameras for my property.
Excellent night vision and audio pickup – I really love this little camera but it has no PC web interface to view footage online, mobile app accessibility only, I disabled the motion tracking as I feel that is going to prematurely wear out the mechanical moving parts much too quickly - also after it finished tracking something, a dog, moth or human it just stops dead in its tracks where… Read more · 1
it lost site the object (this could be pointing at the roof or floor, a wall) I wish it would return to preset base position - facing the main entry door or windows I had set it at etc.
What I don't love. You cant access the recorded footage from a computer browser and this is the same deal if you buy the monthly cloud subscription even without local SD card backup installed, you can only access the footage from the mobile phone or whatever Android or Apple device you have the App installed on - No Cloud/Web Viewing Access Support (Only cloud back-up option - even with the cloud backup subscription you can only view the footage from the Phone not a computer)
As I am away for work every day and am not permitted to have a personal mobile phone in the building, however, I use a desktop computer all day long except Tapo does not offer an end-user web portal to login and view what's happening on the cameras at home or view the recorded events, so if that is important to you I propose looking at another brand, maybe the EUFY brand as they support the web browser video viewer login portal (however even that requires you to open the App on phone first and get a "code" each time you try to login - meaning you still need access to the mobile device to watch footage from your desktop browser.
This a niche problem specific to my situation, but some people may be interested in knowing this limitation before committing to the whole Tapo ecosystem over one of the many other choices - which I am sure has something to do with higher security/encryption for online cameras - so maybe its a good thing - but not for me at this point, maybe one day they will offer this service and I'll feel I haven't wasted my money unbeknownst to me on a system that doesn't offer what I expected.
