Owned for 14 years and still love it – Have owned since 2008 and with a little care and maintenance it can last decades. Reliable Briggs and Stratton 450 classic engine which is bullet proof. Just got to use fresh fuel and clean the air filter regularly and lightly re oil. With the odd engine oil change and blade change it cuts like new again. Show details
Amazing mower, has been used for over a decade and still runs! – I've had this mower for almost 13 years now, Cant fault it. Its absolutely amazing! Reason im not giving 5 stars is because I do have some trouble with starting, It defiently gets harder to start over time unlike my old 1998 Honda lawn mower (Honda buffalo), However the Victa gets the job done. Has alot of power and offers a clean cut and its also… Read more
build for Aussie conditions (like any other Victa). And I love the old basic design powerful Briggs & Stratton engine! Sadly its discountinued, I also do use it for my lawn care buisness although its a homeowners mower, it'll defiently get the job done in commercial conditions, Would defiently recommend buying one if they weren't discontinued or if you see one thats for a good price second hand!
Cant believe this thing – I bought one of these brand new in 2008. Its 11 years later, never serviced it, totally neglected. The last 7 years its sat half exposed to weather including cyclones. Last month, fuel topup and first pull, away it went. Gob smacked, what a product.... Daughter now gets $10/week to mow our yard with it. Unreal Show details
Great value for money mower – I purchased my victa second hand 5 years ago from Radio Rentals and it has not missed a beat. The ever reliable Briggs and Stratton engines are the same basic design as I remember from my childhood and like those mowers from years ago feels like it will last pretty much forever. It starts first time, every time and is so durable it forgave me… Read more
when I decided the best way to get rid of my brother's left over glow plug engine fuel was to put in in the tank of this mower. It rather unsurprisingly didn't like it very much, but a few tanks of regular petrol through it and it was running as sweet as a nut again.
The body is fairly lightweight being pressed steel - but that is reflected in the low purchase price. If you desire a decent cast alloy body, you need to pay a lot more than these go for. The catcher is a decent full plastic job instead of the cheap nasty mesh ones that disintegrate and get holes if you run over stones with them that are prevalent in this price range of mower.
I hit a tree stump with it recently and it started to vibrate badly, all I did was turn it over and just hit the blades with a hammer back into position then sharpened both with my angle griinder for luck. She cuts as good as new again.
Overall, this is an excellent mower for the purchase price - there are updated models available on the market even to this day. As long as you see that Briggs and Stratton engine sitting atop, you can be assured that your mower will last and last and last.
Can't Complain at all – We bought from K-Mart about 8 years ago for $299. A minor issue with the throttle since the beginning that made it hard to start but I managed. I decided to get it fixed recently and it only costed $40. Now it's easy to start. I'm sure it will last for another 8 years. One thing is I wish there is more power, otherwise overall a good machine.
Avoid at all costs – The chassis of this machine rusted away (photos available) is 4 years. Motor was transferred to a new base and continues to operate.
Doesn't die – We live on a 6000sqm block (1.5 acres). This little thing just keeps going and going and going and... well, you get the idea. I do all the servicing that is pretty much cleaning the air filter when it becomes clogged with residue, replacing the spark plug about once a year, blades every few months and oil when it starts becoming dirty with… Read more
contamination. Starts first or second pull every time. Used about 5 hours per week except during Winter or prolonged dry spells, wasn't expecting too long a lifespan but still not using any oil and quite reasonable on fuel (about 90 minutes from a full tank on a modest throttle) Stupidly reliable. Indestructible. Mechanically simple. Tiny design flaw, throttle cable runs over fuel cap making unscrewing the cap a little fiddly.
Good – Good cheap reliable mower for regular lawn maintenance. Challenging to use in longer grass. 4-stroke has the benefit of not needing to premix fuel. - Easy to start. - Not too heavy (32kg) so it's fairly easy to push around. - Not very loud compared with bigger / stronger mowers. - Can take some rough treatment. - Good on fuel economy. -… Read more
Relatively cheap. - No guts whatsoever in longish grass (148cc). Good mower for maintaining a clean-cut lawn, but you'll have to be patient and take it real slow if the lawn is long/dense.
- Awkward to fuel with the fuel inlet being down on the side.
- Turns off before the fuel tank is fully empty.
- Difficult to start the first time when it's brand new (not sure how this compares with other motors).
Great machine – I purchased this mower second hand and it's been excellent. It's got the 4hp B & S motor that just keeps on going. Our last home had a huge backyard which my old 2 stroke just couldn't keep up with so decided to go for the 4 stroke and have never looked back. We moved into our new home almost 2 years ago and haven't had to use my mower until the… Read more
weekend. I pulled the plug out and gave it a bit of a scrub with a wire brush and prepared myself for a long starting session as it's basically been sitting in the garage for all that time. After i cleaned the plug and primed the fuel she fired into life after 2 pulls!!!! I don't really need to say anything more do i :) Gutsy, just keeps on going. Easy starting!!
Excellent – Basic, reliable, and solid built lawn mower. Had mine for the better of 10 years with lots of rough use, and it just keeps on going. Very reliable and with a good pull it always starts
Excellent – Simple, strong, easy starting and it demand low maintenance. Mulch feature works great, honest price and easy to find spare parts. Simple and strong. Difficulty of filling fuel, because the accelerator cable is on top of the petrol tank´s cap.
Good – I've had this lawnmower since 2005 and it starts first time all the time. I've just serviced the mower few days ago with a new spark plug, mower blades, oil change, air filter etc and the parts our quite affordable as compared to Honda etc. All in all it's a good machine but I'd still upgrade to a Honda regardless of the cost of their spare parts and also the premium price. Starts first time. 18in is a bit small for a large lawn.
