VMS 700HDs11

by far the worst GPS and backup service ever – I have had issues with the 700 hd from the start, have sent it back to be rectified on 3 occasions, had discussions with the most ignorant man, Tony the Technician (NOT) at VMS Nunda wadding that I have ever encounted. I have used different GPS units over the years, VMS are by far the worst. No decent technicians. Show details
A waste of money – Drops out usually when needed most. Can’t get up dates and has you in paddocks not roads. Off road is a bit better than highway use. Used only a few time and is the biggest disappointment in all of my 4WD purchases. To the fact I have never purchased from the 4WD centre since. Oh, did I mention no customer after sales care or follow up .5/10 Show details
Rubbish – On road i found the maps to be reasonably good, but off road it was absolute rubbish total waste of time, I am in Western Australia. I could not set the time no matter what i did, it was out around 10-12 hours, turning on night mode during the day so i couldnt see the screen. I have now upgraded to a Hema HX1 which i should have done in the first place. Honestly do not waste your money with this garbage. Show details

Own three 700HDX Units – Map updates where free and took minutes to update, Acurrate Off Road and back track to the spot. First unit got stood on and apart from the cracked screen not all ways responding to touch continues to work. Hema's sold off and no regrets. Show details
Great unit – I have had this unit for over 3 years. Never missed a beat. Constant remote areas and so accurate I use it to set out road chainages which are within 1 meter of surveyors set outs. I too brought this unit from Supacentre. You all must have got a bad batch. Off road maps are always accurate.
Does as it says – Firstly, I do not believe all those writing in so many online places complaining about the VMS own one or have used one let alone seen one as seem to not have any truthful idea about one. With so many people bad mouthing these I was worried about buying one at first but once I used one myself I saw there was no issues to be worried about. I… Read more
first rang VMS to ask about some details and had two very helpful people advise of the details and specifications I wanted to know more about.
East to fit, works better than I could ever expect for such a simple looking unit and so easy to use. Also a plus in my book is that it looks like a cheap head unit when turned off which makes it less of a target for theives I believe.
I only wish I could have optioned a different reverse camera, the style of camera that is hidden in the number plate light but there is not one available that fits my 4x4 and out of everything that is the only issue I can winge about.

It Has Its Problems But – I have owned a VMS 700HDX for a couple of years now which I purchased from 4WD Supacentre. The unit has almost always run well and only let me down when the cheap and nasty Chinese junk auxiliary 12v plug melted. Even though Kings were fine about it and replaced the plug, I have powered the unit using the USB cable ever since without any issues at… Read more
all. One of VMS's issues is the cheap and nasty Chinese accessories they supply, probably to keep costs down and keep them competitive.
When using the unit as a road navigator it is fine and navigates well but the speed detection software cannot determine between the road you are on and the service lane. So, you will be doing 75 in an 80 and pass a 60kph service road and it will tell you that you are speeding when you aren't. Not an issue outside the suburbs but damned irritating and relentless in them.
The other issue is the off-road mapping, I found it to be very accurate even when HEMA's books have a track name incorrect, VMS has it right. However, because it is based on paper maps, you often get to the edge of a map and then the VMS takes an age to load the next map and when it eventually does, the zoom scale doesn't match what you had it set on so you have to press the + button whilst trying to negotiate the track. One thing that bothers me is that there seems to be no map key, nothing to identify map features. When I asked VMS I got fobbed off so, my conclusion is that there isn't one or they couldn't be bothered.
However, the biggest issue by far is VMS themselves and their attitude towards their customers. They haven't responded to anyone's request here and when they do, it is not that helpful, it seems that the customer is always wrong. I have tried to support VMS with them being a local family-owned business but their attitude towards customers stinks and they can't be bothered. Looks to me like a company that does not have enough staff and will not listen to advice regardless and it is the same with the new 3DX product they've not long since, launched. Poor support, poor features and I think they've shot their bolt and their customer base is drying up and it is their own fault.
VMS, if you read this, as other companies come online with products the same and better than yours, then all you have left to stay afloat is your attitude to your customers and their loyalty. I tried to help you but you just blanked me and with that attitude, your followers are drying up. Unless you start supporting customers and getting your idiotic stupid little faults fixed, you are done. Learn from this or change or you're finished.
It's just not worth it – There's tracks on the map that just aren't there and tracks in reality that aren't on the maps, if you're looking for a good unit avoid hema and this unit and get a garmin. I've seen some really small tracks that show up on garmin and everything is where it's supposed to be. Once you've got the garmin unit you can download the app and it runs on… Read more
your ipad or tablet with good quality and accurate maps for off reading using the gps from the ipad/tablet
Does not open up – When working it’s pretty good, but most of the time it won’t even load up. It gets to the screen to select on road or off and shuts downs or comes up with error with Microsoft. Would like it to work as I think it would be a good unit. Had it for 2 and a half years and been able to use it twice. VMS please help Show details

Absolute rubbish would hate to rely on it if lost – Seriously don’t bother with this rubbish loads once in every 10 resets continuously popping up with errors. Just updated it this morning with a little hope and I wasn’t disappointed still a piece of crap..... NEVER AGAIN Show details
Disappointed – We have used this device for 4 years and have had it back to VMS twice for warranty issues which were done without question. But I have given up on it after last trip with constant freezing and and error messages when moving between menu's and having reboot over and over. Don't know what causes it, lack of RAM, OS or software but I'm over it. The… Read more
off-road map choices are good but the device operates better in highway mode Keen to have a demo of Garmin RV775 MT-S as we have a small Garmin in 2nd car which is seamless to use and easy to upgrade
Total rubbish, maps are years old , – Maps are out date 3yrs plus . Gps drops out ,ive had a tom tom running along side it still worked fine. Wasted of money 4wd supercentre or super ripoff doesn't want to know about it. Wouldn't recommend this item . Or recommend 4wd supercentre. Show details
Disappointing – Sadly I have to agree and support the many negative posts on this GPS. I have persevered with the device over a couple of years and would NOT recommend purchasing one. It freezes and fails to operate at critical times when driving especially on road trips when you appreciate a stable platform. Unit promises plenty, looks smart but fails the reliability test too often. Show details

A 5 year old can direct me better – Bought one 2 weeks ago won’t work out bush on off road . Went up to Barrington tops and off road couldn’t even find the campsites . While loading maps it decides to go in to sleep mode and won’t turn back on but the green light stays on. When I bought it I was told it was all up to date , set it up to navigate me home and the new expressway of 5 years don’t even exist . Show details
Absolute Rubbish – Its slow, you cant scroll, Off Road maps are useless! I wouldn't trust this unit to find your way in a remote area. Purchased from 4x4 Supacentre who wont support the product or provide a refund in their 30 Day Guarantee. Show details
Don’t do it – Great if you want a paper weight, take maps you will need them don’t waste your money if the system can find your map it will normally freeze up and that’s if you can get past the start up screen
Don't wast your money – I had high hopes for this device. Unfortunately it didn't even come close to my expectations. I updated my device when I got it, then using the on road navigation around North Queensland, there are too many roads that do not exist on the GPS unit. I also used it coming into Brisbane, and had the same issues. As the main reason I purchased this… Read more
was to use off road, that wasn't a deal breaker just yet. I only had to use it once off road to realize this product is absolutely rubbish. A lot of the tracks I was on did not exist on the unit, and when you get to the end of the map, I assume you have to click onto a new map which would be very annoying. By that stage I gave up with the device and pulled out my $15 Hema app on my phone which is 1000x time better. The touch screen which is advertised as being tough and durable is an absolute nightmare to use, as you need to use the included pointer, that is tiny (I lost it first use), or your fingernail. After 3 attempts to use this device, I sold it online for a massive lose just to get rid of it. Do yourself a favor and purchase anything else but this product.
No good off road – Went to vic high country. Got lost/missed turn offs. Had to manually select maps, when one section finished, or it flicked to Gregory version which didn't show most tracks. Destination is in a straight line, useless. Waypoint setting ok, but it had difficulties keeping the breadcrumbs track logging. Wouldn't turn on every time. Save your money and get a hema to go with their great paper maps. Show details
Did not work offroad which is the primary reason anyone would buy one – Although the GPS navigation worked perfectly fine on-road while it was within Telstra network data zones, it failed to locate my position and load the map when I went outside network data zones. The whole point of buying these units is so that you could locate your position in remote areas offroad and it didn't even do that! Complete waste of… Read more
money and my time, I'm glad 4wd Supacentre gave me credit back on this product because contacting VMS directly proved to be another waste of my time. Save yourself some headache and steer well clear of this product
Frustrating – Bought approx 2 years ago send back as it did not work received back with new card still does not work not reliable enough to go bush 2 years never use once how about a refund Show details
Piece of junk – First one died. Second one sent to me didn't work either. The unit sent back was second hand. These units seem to have a bug in them. Very disappointed with it. Show details

700 HDX is the most useless piece of equipment I own – The unit has had 3 replacement cards in it. Each time VMS tell me it is fixed. Still has errors. The map information is rubbish, gets lost all the time. Totally unreliable, better off using goggle maps. Very dissapointed, if my wife had her way it would have been out the window ages ago. waste of money , Hema next on the to buy list – Occasionally freezes up , unknown error , not even 12 months old comes up with SD card not inserted , total waste of $ 269.00 ! Emailed VMS in Melbourne was quizzed 101 questions did I do this did do that , is it charging properly ? Then had to fill out a short story on its doing / not doing . Save ya money folks Show details
Why do they sell this crap – Worked ok for a while than just started to play up it is just not worth the problem do your self a favour and don’t purchase I have bought many items from supacentre and have been good for the money this item needs to be upgraded and they are very slow in returning money Show details
Don't buy a VMS – Had the unit for over 12 months no issues for the first few months went on holidays interstate that's when the unit went stupid kept going into error mode and dropping out contacted VMS told them the issue and they replaced the SD card immediately only issue now every now and then it loses signal purchased it from the 4WD Supacentre would not recommend buy a Hema Show details
Off road nah! – This GPS works fine on sealed roads. Had mine for 1 year. No good in the gulf as it doesn't recognise that you are on a main road. First time on corragations it had error code. It's now in the bin. If you want something for off-road leave this alone. Must be different mapping on the ones on tv shows cause mine had no idea once in the bush. Terrible product, you buy and you will be disappointed. Show details
Replacement sim card – My VMS HD700x gps is now 12 months old. From new it worked well, with minor annoying features which I cannot find out how to change. However in the last 2 months the machine progressively developed software errors so it would not turn on, would not navigate or stopped navigating randomly. Annoyingly this became critical when I was holidaying away… Read more
from home. Reviews from this site are BAD. I email VMS asking for help, expecting to start a Consumer Affairs war with them. To my surprise they were prompt to reply, helpful and rapidly posed a new sim card to me to fix the machine. SO annoyed by the fault, pleased with their service
Total rubbish – In one word crap. To slow have to bash the screen to enter letters and numbers and freezes. Only had for two hours returned to Supacentre for refund hopefully they refund to my credit card. Show details
Absolutely terrible – Piece of crap. Using the vms is like going back in time, the technology is that old. Touch the screen and prepare to wait 2 minutes for it to load, or maybe it will just freeze. The mapping system is that poor you can't even zoom in without the screen going all pixelated. And don't even try return it to 4wd supacenter, they won't accept refunds on this item. If you buy it prepare to throw it out your window at highway speed. Show details
So frustrating I threw it in the bin – Difficult to operate, frustrating time consuming software downloads to do simple updates and unidentified maps in the offroad section. Poor vision/image in bright light. Waste of time and money. Binned it and stuck to maps that made sense. The model was a 700HDX Show details
Nothing but trouble since new – Maps not up to scratch. Off-road insufficient detail. Easy install. GPS ok. Constantly fails due to constant freezing and errors, usually at vital times. Would not recommend to anyone, get something else. Show details
Don't waste your money – Absolutely garbage thing keeps freezing and saying that the sd card is not Installed don't waste your hard earn cash on this product go buy a Hema you will be better off. crappiest product I have ever bought for my 4wd.

asked them to ring vms they told me that it's not there problem they just sell the units for vms so i now have a 4 day old vms which does not power up no light indicator it's useless 4x4action on youtube must be paid actors because no one could be happy with 4x4 super centers and there's 100s of problems with all the vms gps over last couple of years
Unrealiable VMS 700HD – Using the unit on street maps was fine. 4x4 maps - 1. it keeps going into faults 2. It keeps freezing up 3. It would say it was to busy and no SD card installed, but was in unit. I would reset unit and still would come up with these problems. There are trouble shooting tips on VMS website, which explains all these faults. Why sell it!!!!… Read more
Wasting customers time and it will give you a bad name. This is the second unit I have had through warranties. My warranties claims have been prompt and acceptable from 4wd Supar Centre and VMS. Sorry to VMS, your units are not a good product for my situation as I relay on it for work out in the bush.
When it did work 4x4 maps was good and accurate with tracks, roads, rail lines & rivers. If the product worked, the mapping is great and it was easy to navigate the unit through it`s features. Paul Macholl
