VoltaX Basic LiFePO4 Lithium Battery 100Ah. Is it Ok to run a electric boat motor and what charger should I use use to recharge. thanks

VoltaX
VoltaX   DM

Thank you for raising your inquiry with us, Les. It will depend on the power draw of the trolling motor. We recommend a charger with a 14.6V 20A capacity to charge the battery. Cheers!

We have the 200ah Voltx Lithium Battery and the BMS keeps going to sleep. We have to keep connecting the Century Charger to wake it up which isn't going to help when we are remote camping. When it wakes up its is almost fully charged (90+%) 13.6V. Is this a faulty battery?

VoltaX

Thank you for your enquiry, The F. We sent you a ProductReview DM with a guide on how to address the matter with the BMS that keeps going to sleep. Cheers!

Can I connect a 100Ah Voltax and a 125Ah Voltax in parallel? I've read stuff about getting them both charged to the same level first. If it can't be done simply with cables, can it be done with a battery balancer (hoping for 12V 225Ah)?

VoltaX
VoltaX   DM

Hi Bill D, thank you for your inquiry. We recommend connecting VoltaX batteries that have the same profile.

Bill D.
Bill D.

Yes and if buying both new and together I'd do that (or get one big one), but I happen to have a 100 & a 125. The only decent battery balancer seems meant to get 24v (the Victron one). The other thing I could do is use a big switch to use one battery at a time.

I purchased Volta x 135 ah battery when they first hit the market in Australia and cannot fault so far , my problem is I cannot purchase another one as I would like to double my capacity

Wayne D.
Wayne D.

Yeah same problem here, I did hear that the battery was not a true 135ah but rather a 120ah, like you I have had no problems with mine and I was lucky enough to get the 135ah standard with a 50a BMS and I also purchased the slimline 135ah model with the 100a BMS, but I don't think the 135ah battery will be released again.

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing 3 x 100Ah VoltaX Lithium batteries to replace my AGM caravan batteries (I AM UPGRADING THE BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM) . Can these VoltaX lithium batteries be wired in series, will wiring them in series effect them. Would I be better of purchasing 1 x 300Ah Lithium battery instead?. Can you advise. Shane.

VoltaX
VoltaX   DM

Hi Shane, depending on your space requirement, either 1x battery or 3x will suffice. The basic model is a standalone battery although we have other 100Ah models that can support series and parallel connections.

Hi, thank you for your reply. As I don't know the VoltX batteries, are they certified one assembled and sealed. Cheers, Sane

Vacublaster
Vacublaster

Obviously, one bigger battery takes up a lot less space and likely weighs a little less but it will still have as many cells as 3 smaller batteries so it will weigh about the same. Lithium batteries are made up of hundreds of individual cells and unless you can get larger capacity cells, they just increase the number of cells for capacity. Of course, the downside of this is if you lose some cells you lose the whole battery even if they replace it under warranty you will still be without a battery. The advantage of 3 x 100ah batteries is that if cells fail in one, you'll still have 200ah while you get it replaced.

Look it like a Computer Network Storage Box (NAS), lots of smaller disk drives allow you to protect your data and replace the ones that fail without losing your data. Whereas one big drive fails and it has all gone.

I hope this helps

DS

I have a voltx 100amp 12 volt lithium battery. It has a resting voltage of 14 volts. My understanding is lithium batteries should be normalised at 13.6 volts. Is this a problem?

VoltaX

Thank you for posting your enquiry, Road to I. Yes, 14V is a normal and acceptable resting voltage for the battery. Make it your day.

Hi I have recently purchased a volta x 200ah battery witch I am running off a cetek lithium compatible dc to dc charger with 200w solar panel, I have been experiencing rapid voltage drop. I'm running a 95ltr evercool 12v fridge that will keep running for 2-3 days without hardly dropping below 100% charge, then the battery will suddenly drop from full charge th 20% suddenly, can you please shed some light on what the problem with this battery is. Regards Phil K

Alexander P.
Alexander P.

Yes so the SOC graphs for these batteries looks really different to lead acid the only way to get a accurate messurment is with a shunt/current counter. you can get a rough idea by looking at the voltage.

Lithium SOC vs voltage graph, external link .

Rough voltage to SOC, external link .

I'd say that your battery is fine its probably just not getting fully charged. I had similar problems with this when I bought these batteries.

Hi. I have been told that contrary to the manufacturers specifications, I cannot connect my voltax batteries in series. I would really like to know of any successes and any problems/ recommendations while doing this, as I’m not sure what to believe. I have 4x 200ah voltax batteries that I’d like to series/parallel to make a 400 Ah 24v system. Any advice much appreciated!

VoltX
VoltX   DM

Hi Rene, our VoltaX LIFEPO4 batteries generally can be connected into series/parallel connections unless specifically stated on the listing page. You may share here the product's link to verify. Thanks

Alexander P.

Yeah so I had 4 of the 135ah voltax battery running at 48 volts and it was a nightmare. It ran nowhere close to capacity due to the bms fighting eachother and the cell would get completely unbalanced. So in your situation I would say you maybe saved by the fact that you have two in parrell so if one stops taking charge the other will still take charge. The issues with this is, you can't safely draw charge as though you had two batteries in parallel your stuck at the rate of a single battery. my neighbour had this exact thing happen with 4 of the 135ah 12volt voltax battery in parallel. Drew a load from them 3 of them shut off and one had its bms fry due to it having to supply all the current.

Victron make a battery balancer for this sort of setup too Probably a must external link

I ended up pulling mine apart and building a single 48volt cell with a daly bms it works wonderfully.

Sorry about typos I'm a tad dyslexic.

Rene Bahloo
Rene Bahloo

Oh! That is fascinating! So much for the built in bms unless you just use one alone battery then… So, with the addition of the external victory battery balancer, do you think it will work? I mean, will it override the internal Individual bms’s of the batteries to balance them all? I don’t have the skills (or perhaps the confidence) to pull the things apart and build a custom make job with one, good, bms.

Alexander P.
Alexander P.

I felt the the same way about teardown but it was not to bad in the end, daly bms are pretty good you just have to order the right one for your setup (get a bluetooth one). As for the victron battery balancer it was what I was going to go with but I would have had to buy like 3 to balance a 48 volts system external link

In your situation I think the victron is a good fit it will save you losing the warranty, it wont overide the internal bms but thats fine but it will keep the batteries in series balanced which is the most important thing. and its cheap like 120 AUD. As for the charge and discharge issues of having them in parallel id would run as normal if your in warranty period. and then maybe scale it back abit maybe like 3/4 of what is says in the manual depend on what your using it for im off grid so down time is not an option so I have to be a bit more caution.

Hi, I have been considering buying a 300Ah VoltX (the "purple X" 4 year warranty battery. What C rating is this battery? And what size lithium Battery Charger 240 volt battery charger amps would be best to charge?

VoltX
VoltX   DM

Hi Alex G, the VoltX 300Ah purple color model's continued C rating is 0.67C while its 5sec max C rating is 1.33C. We cannot recommend a specific brand of battery charger but you may check with local or online sellers for battery compatibility. Please note that the batteries can be series connected up to 4x to achieve 48V.

Vacublaster
Vacublaster

Alex, not sure about your question but I have the 100ah battery and I use it as an auxiliary battery in my 4WD. The batteries maximum charge input is 50 amps so I use a Renogy DCC50S 12V 50A DC to DC Battery Charger with MPPT which I can thoroughly recommend if that's what you are after. If you are using solar and your auxiliary is full, this charger will then use solar to charge your cranking batteries too.

hi I currently have a Redarc 4BCDC1240D charger and I am looking for a new battery the smallest I can go without over charging/heating the cells what's your recommendation. thanks

Alexander P.
Alexander P.

Have a look at getting one with a good Bluetooth module. It will make diagnosing fault so much easier. The issue I had with the Voltax lifepo4 batteries was they where constantly shutting the power down when charging so the charge time was often way longer than it should be. I pulled my ones apart and put them with a 48volt s16 150a daly bms and it was like a whole new system.

VoltX
VoltX   DM

Hi Simon F., LIFEPO4 batteries do not heat up like an AGM. No over-charging because of the BMS feature. A 100Ah LIFEPO4 battery can work with your Redarc charger.
