Hi, I have a pair of brand new Whal KM2 cordless clippers. I have had them on the charger for the first time for about an hour before use. As soon as I unplug the cord they do not work when switching on. Sometimes the red light comes on but not every time. I am also not able to unclip the blades. Is there something that I need to do before using? I can’t find anything about that in the instruction manual.

Can you sharpen the Blades on a km 10 clippers,,In other words can you separate the cutter from the comb,,!!? Thanks

Yes.

Mick V.

The blades can be sharpened, but they are hollow ground so sharpening them on a flat stone won’t work. Contact Mick’s Clipper and Tagging Service on Facebook. They will help you out

How much is wahl km 2 clippers?

austozzie

best prices are online. Google it for latest, but you're looking in the region of AU$200+ The Andis 2 speed that I use are about $160 on ebay at the moment (from stefmar - cheaper to go thru ebay than their own site for some inexplicable reason!)

I am going to buy some Wahl KM2 clippers, and would like to know if the guides for the human clippers fit the KM2 clippers. I have had Wahl Classic mens clippers for 20 years plus, and many guide combs, so I would like to know if I can use them on the KM2.

austozzie
austozzie

I shouldn't think so, but ask the retailer you about to buy the clippers from. BUT as my KM2 clippers died after two uses (12 months apart, YES oiled and packed away correctly) and Wahl didn't give a "you know what" as they were 2 weeks out of warranty DESPITE having only been used TWICE in that period .... I personally would NEVER buy Wahl clippers again. P.S. mine is not an unusual story either :( My Andis 2 speed clippers (which cost significantly less) have lasted 3 years (so far) being used once a week on 3 dogs .. so my loyalties tend to lie with Andis - although I've heard that the Wahl blades are longer wearing and yes, the Wahl and Andis blades are interchangeable on the most popular models.

Catherine H
Catherine H

From the photos I can see they might have a different way of attaching. I am leaning towards buying the Wahl, as I had some Wahl Classic electric clippers for humans, which I used on my 4 male members of the household for 25 years without missing a beat, and sharpened once, until they were stolen. I was able to buy the exact same Classic a few years ago to replace them. BTW the human ones are under $100, and The Shaver Shop seems to have the best price for the KM2. Thanks for your feedback.

Kevin Blaney
Kevin Blaney

The wahl km2 are meant for dog grooming not human grooming. The km2 have their own set of guards which you purchase separately.

Catherine H

Just wanted to know if I could save on doubling up on the guides if they are interchangeable. There are no photos that I can find that show how they attach.

My wife bought it around 2 years ago , just used it less than ten times for my little dog and it didn't cut the hair, totally waste of money, very unhappy with this product.

My KM2 clippers have stopped cutting .... reset blade, replace on cutter, cut for 1 - 2 seconds and then stop cutting. My question is if I replace the white drive lever (earlier version of the KM2) will that help, as I don't know if it is worn. I have had the cutter for about 5 years and cut my shih tzu x every 2-3 months. The Australian Wahl global contact hasn't been interested in getting back in contact.

austozzie
austozzie

Worth a try before binning them. I had exactly the same experience after only TWO cuts with KM2. Wahl not interested, in so far as I never got a response. So I threw them out and went to Andis. Been using Andis clippers for 2 years on 3 dogs every 1 or 2 weeks and they're still going strong. I've had to have the blade sharpened of course, but the clippers just keep powering away.

Macca the Roadworker

Thanks for that. I also found a Wahl parts site in Oz a few minutes ago and sent them an email ('wahlspareparts@gmail.com'), so I'll see if it works.

Why won't my clippers cut properly?

austozzie

Because they're rubbish. Wahl won't help you ... I doubt they will even answer your emails! Throw them out and buy and buy Andis.

Are your blades sharp?

John S.
John S.

Unscrew the 2 screws on the blade turn it around facing the back of the bottom plate. Get a screw driver and bend the the spring tensioner down. So as when you put it back the Wright way it’s tighter Now put it back the way it was in the beginning make sure the top blade is square across the bottom.give an oil and clean and it should be good. If it rattling the guides on your blade can bend out jam a flat blade screw diver in an bend them back the wings can break also from metal fatigue sharpener can replace them for a few extra $. Wash your dog clean may be even some conditioner a dry

John S.
John S.

If the motors working km2 are slow compared to the km10 but ideal if your trying to keep cost down. If their running it’s the mug operating them. Andis are ok if your starting out. Just keep good tension between top and bottom blade.

hi i have the km2 clippers, they sometimes start cutting and then they grab the hair and wont cut, i had them sharpened and the still did the same so i brought another pair new, and they do the same any suggestions as to why the do this?

austozzie

I have no idea and Wahl won't help you. Cut your losses, throw it out and put it down to experience ... albeit and very expensive and unpleasant one!

Hi,

I've had my Wahl KM-2 clippers for about 7 years, used approximately 5 to 6 times a year. They are at the stage where they will no longer cut. I've taken the blades apart cleaned, and sharpened them on a sharpening stone, I've also replaced the drive lever. The hinge holding the blade still appears to be quite tight. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions as to where the problem may lay. I've considered replacing the hinge to rule this out as a possibility. Thanks in advance.

Gidday mate...i did all you have done as well and ended up sending them away to a specialist. Cost about $110 and came back better than ever. They replaced hinge and sharpen 2 sets of no.10 blades. Ive been warned not to try n sharpen their blades as it stuffs them...not even knife n scissor sharpeners should do it..theyre not equipt. I forget the name of the place but they handle heaps of different brands and told me the whal was up there as the best.

Does anyone know how to put blades on? took the blades off to get sent away for sharpening have tried to put back on and is not cutting hair just pulling it.

Gibblet

You need to turn your clippers on. NEVER put your blades on when clippers are not on... Then push down and then will click while on. And they should work

Do put the blades together before putting onto clippers thanks

Dear Di Di. Oh no. Ours are still working fine. I have nothing to suggest from personal experience. Maybe Wahl has a customer service line that could help. Good luck. Lilybinx.

Iv got a bichon and it as very matted hair would this product be able to cut through that?

Fukyou

Yes it will cut through that. Depending on how thick matted hair is, best to cut under it, close to the skin, to remove the matted hair.

I have just received through the post Wahl KM2 clippers that I ordered a couple of months ago. We are 400 kms from the nearest post office and because of heavy rains closing the road I have had to wait a long time to get them. Now I have them but no instruction manual. I have no idea how to use them and have a little dog who badly needs a decent hair cut against the fierce heat out here. Can anybody help me?

Candy

Fukyou
Fukyou

Hello Candy, does your clippers come with a set of comb guides? if so then just pick a desired guide to attach to your clippers. I normally use a number 3 guide on the clippers, for my little one. Some video instructions on how to use the clippers here: external link

Lilybinx

There are lots of great clips on YouTube of how to clip your dog, many using Wahl clippers. Good luck.

Where do I buy a pair of these clippers ?

How much are they and do they come with the 30" blade

I have an old English sheep dog

Fukyou
Fukyou

You don't need a #30 blade unless your going to do surgery on the dog. This is all you need. external link

Also, in thinking if rewriting my review. The clipper blade stops cutting on and off. Infuriating. Wahl still havnt answered my email. Type in 'Wahl km2 blade not cutting' and there are hundreds of angry customers that have the same problem. Not blunt blades, just blade misaligning over and over. Steer clear, ive just wasted lots of cash on what "seemed" like a good clipper :(

Lilybinx

I bought mine from eBay, seller was Dogify. Still happy with purchase - working well.

I have just bought Wahl km-2 two speed, have not used it as yet, it came with 8 combs and a number10 blade can I use any of the combs with this blade or do I need to buy the blades that correspond with the numbers on the combs.

Also if I use a high number blade will this leave the coat longer.

Thank you

Flick

Fukyou
Fukyou

Hi Flick, you can use any of the comb guides with the standard #10 blade.. I gave my cavalier prince charles spaniel a clip around the body, using the #3 comb, then used the yellow #5 around the ears. Low speed setting did the job without any effort at all. Just remember to not block that exhaust fan port underneath the unit, with your fingers..

Fukyou
Fukyou

Yes a larger number comb guide will leave the coat longer.

Fukyou
Fukyou

The #10 standard blade gives a showroom finish on my dogs coat, I do not need anything else.

FT.SAHM
FT.SAHM

Yes you can use any combs with the #10 blade. In terms of blades (without combs) the higher the number = the shorter the coat will be, eg a #30 blade would be used for pre surgery clip by vet, so a low number like a #5 will leave more length in coat

Flick
Flick

Thank you Chris Roubis and FT.SAHM for your replies they are really helpful. Cheers Flick

Boys mum
Boys mum

Flick the snap-on guide combes are actually meant to go over a number 30 blade.

And just to clarify above comment a 50 blade is pre-surgery.

My dogs have dense coats will these clippers allow the comb to go through, or just block up?

Fukyou
Fukyou

these clippers will go right through, they do not block up.. I use them going against the coat growth, and it has no problem on the lower speed at all.
