Had this trimmer for 3 years. The fine trimmer head that came with it was great, except they barely last 6 months and they cost $70 to replace. The clip on mechanism is constantly snapping off and then can’t be used. I’ve now spent more than the price of the new trimmer replacing the heads and will never buy a wahl clipper again. The last head… Read more
snapped off after the 4th time taking it off to clean. I showed the staff at shaver shop who acknowledged there had been some bad batches but still had to pay. In my opinion the head they sell as the primary one for the product should have a longer warranty than 3 months.
It’s a shame because it does exactly what I want, doesn’t overheat and trims very well. But the quality of their products are horrible.
I've owned the Wahl Super Taper clippers for 17 years and the tool is as good as the day I bought it. First class quality and first class customer experience. I look after all my household blade tools very well, from kitchen knives, to garden tools to hair clippers. I bought the Wahl stainless steel trimmer model #SS2L (the previous model to this… Read more
one) from my local Shaver Shop three years ago. Recently the power button simply disintegrated with no warning. This is very disappointing from a quality perspective. The unit still functions perfectly, but I have to press the tiny internal button with the end of the little cleaning brush. Which is a pretty rubbish customer experience.
The fact Wahl sells the trimmer power button separately as a spare part suggests to me that it is a known quality issue. Why doesn't Wahl include two spare power buttons with each new unit?
As a long time customer and advocate for the Wahl brand, I am pretty disappointed in the difference in quality between the Super Taper clippers and the trimmer.
I contacted customer service and received this response. "The button disintegrating is not something everyone experiences. For example, we have staff with the first generation and their battery (sic - probably meant button) is intact."
Wahl's opinion that "the button disintegrating is not something everyone experiences" is completely irrelevant to my experience.
The fact that the power button on my trimmers fell apart after less than three years is a clear indication of a quality issue. Wahl is unwilling to accept that fact.
The least they could have done is apologise and send me a replacement power button free of charge. As it is, I have had to pay $15 in postage for a $5 spare part. FWIW the power button arrived promptly and it fitted. $20 for a tiny piece of plastic
Wahl have now destroyed the loyalty of a 17 year strong supporter of theirs by this single stupid interaction. Off to ProductReview I go to leave a one star review.
Bonne chance, mes amis!
Poor Quality, don't waste your money – We have this same shaver from 7 years ago and it's still going strong, so I bought the same one for my son in July 2023. Within 7 months the blade was vibrating and not cutting. I went to Shaver Shop to be told blades weren't covered under warranty and it would cost $70! I complained to Wahl and eventually they sent me a replacement blade, which… Read more
again failed after 4 months. It does not cut through the hair, keeps pulling. Wahl have refused to replace it as "blades are not covered under warranty" and want $70, which we are not going to pay. Obviously there is a problem with these cheap blades. Read other reviews, I wish I had. Do not waste your money on this expensive shaver or if you do, be prepared to spend $70 on a new blade every 4 or so months. The product's quality is obviously not up to the standard of older models. We have never replaced a blade in the 7 year old model, which is used twice per week. You can find better quality shavers, don't waste your money.
Wahl design flaw requires $70 replacement part – Update: After the below, Wahl were really understanding and helped get a replacement blade. I just hope it lasts much longer. I have been a regular customer of Shaver Shop and Wahl. I don't understand how $30 wahl clippers which I have used for years on my head and beard without oiling once works fine. Then I buy a fancy $250 waterproof Wahl… Read more
trimmer which fails within its 2 year warranty which I use for lining up the beard and trimming my mo. I am told I need to pay $70 to replace the top assembly. If you look at reviews it is clear there is a design fault where they use white plastic on the inside. Even a lady at store admitted Wahl was a crap brand and I wish the bloke who sold me this in late 2022 told me that.
I was emailed the following by customer service which conveniently avoids taking responsibility and owning up to Wahl's design fault and how the $250 product did not provide anywhere near the value of the $30 product which goes through a higher thickness/volume of hair.
"Unfortunately, certain components, specifically blades, foils, and guide combs, fall within the category of consumable parts subject to wear and tear, and thus do not fall under the scope of our standard manufacturer warranty. The lifespan of these accessories can vary significantly due to numerous factors, including hair type, hair thickness, and blade maintenance, making it challenging to provide a precise timeframe for their durability. This duration is highly individual and may differ from person to person. In such cases, we recommend considering the purchase of a replacement blade, foil, or guide comb for your item."
I will be interested to hear what Fair Trading have to say and failing that, Fair Tribunal. The adjustable comb attachment is cumbersome and can take multiple attempts to clip to the right number .
Terrible - Broke on first use - zero customer service – Bought one of the most expensive trimmers in store from a well known brand. First set charged up but wouldn't turn on at all. Exchanged for a second set. Second set worked for 2-3mins before the T-Blade started making a loud crunchy noise. Pulled the blade off to have a look and bits of plastic fell out. Contacted Wahl via their online form and… Read more
got no response at all. Returned for a refund and never purchasing a Wahl product again. Shop assistant said both issues are known problems with the Wahl and that Wahl refuse to accept that there is an issue. They said if I exchanged for another set I would likely have the same issue again.
