literature that suggest to let the drive burn in for days. On-off on-off more than a dozen times. From dashboard, reboot. All to no avail. Either this a badly designed product or I got shipped a lemon.

thread on the WD forum is massive with so many people not able to access their files however what is the most appalling part is WD's lack of customer service, this is their only reply after 5 days & masses of people emailing as well: "We are working on releasing a version of WD Discovery that supports macOS 10.15 Catalina and My Cloud Home by the end of this month. Thank You" I also lost access to the drive for 4 days a few months ago after a firmware update!! I have spent so much time transferring all my files to my 6Tb MyCloudHome & am very very regretful - don't buy this product, particularly if you have a Mac even though they say it's fully compatible, I will never use western digital again after their disgraceful customer service! If I could use a zero star rating I would :-(

Complete crap – I bought this thinking it would work the way my current WD MyClouds (2 of them) have worked for years. In fact it's a totally different thing and is pretty useless. Very limited access and no DLNA video server so it can't be used as a share to serve video content to a WDTV. I'd give it no stars if it were an option. $200 wasted, I'd send it back if I could get a refund. Show details

BEWARE! The "My Cloud Home" is missing functionality the original "My Cloud" had. It is no longer a budget NAS – I bought a WD My Cloud Home to upgrade my existing WD My Cloud. case, the MyCloudHome is no longer suitable for backing up our PCs and Macs. This is because, while WD have kept the rear USB port, they have removed network access to external drives plugged into it. Without external drive support, backups and restores are impractically slow as they can only be run over a LAN (i.e. WiFi or ethernet), and the device is very slow at this. Also, slow backups increase the chances of corrupting Mac backup archives when using Apple's Time Machine. This is due to Time Machine not liking being interrupted.

If you are considering buying a WD MyCloudHome, make sure it can do what you expect. Be VERY careful if you are looking for a budget NAS. I am hoping to return mine, but I bought it on ebay :(
