Love the easy cleaning, but – I'm all for easy cleaning as I like to keep everything looking like new. I have now had my westinghouse PHL768U*28 cook top for 6 years and use it 5 out of 7 nights. It took a bit of getting used to with the pots sliding easily when stirring but my main concern was the temp control being temperamental. As this was my first cook top as such,… Read more
I thought I must have been using it wrong and it was a matter of sorting it out as I used it more. My first concern was it was faulty but I couldn't compare it with another of the same.
6 years down the track, nothing has changed except me knowing how to use it by playing around with the up and down of temp numbers to get a meal cooked. If my husband or a visitor try and use it, forget it! They just can't work it out and scratch their head.
95% of the time I will use the large ring front lhs and use the whole ring. Best to put on 3 to get it hot and after a few mins, putting a steak in a pan will sizzle away and start cooking. This is all good if a medium thickness but if thicker or cooking something longer than 8 mins, the heat dies and to get any heat further heat out of it to return to cooking, you have to blast it up to 8 and then bring it down to 5. Putting it up to 4,5,6/7 does nothing.
Now thinking about it, I don't think I need to do such with the other elements but I hardly use them, only to cook something small like onions sep or toasting nuts and I only need to go no higher than 2. I need to use the bigger hot plate for the many steaks we eat!
Would buy a glass top again but do some more research - maybe induction?
Rubbish product. Made in China – When it was installed the glass cooktop had a bow in it and was replaced by westinghouse (Electrolux). The bow in the second cooktop was much worse than the first one. After waiting several weeks for another replacement (the third) it was installed and it too has a bow on the surface. The technician told us that the cooktops are all made in China now and the workmanship is very poor. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Love this cooktop – This is an excellent ceramic cooktop and very good value. It has four rings, one which is adjustable for large pans. I haven't had any problems with it at all, even though I have seriously burned spills onto it at times. I find the paint scraper, supplied with the cooktop, works well to remove burned-on spills and the recommended ceramic cooktop… Read more
cleaner finishes the job - do use the conditioner as well and the cooktop will look like new no matter what kind of mess it was in in the first place. I especially like the fact that the cooktop has no knobs, it is all touch control, so it is very easy and quick to clean - the heat settings are easy to control. This is a very reliable, easy to use product, and I am very happy with it after a year of solid use. Everything. Nothing.
Great Cooktop – Bought to replace a 20 year old ceramic, this has been an ideal purchase. Clean styling with no edging or dials/knobs to trap dirt or interfere with large pots/pans and very easy to use. Considering it fitted into the same space as our previous cooktop, there seems to be so much more cooking space, which I put down to the positioning of the… Read more
controls.
The features are also very handy and whilst I was very sceptical of the warm up function myself, I have come to love this particular function more than any other. Having multiple timer abilites and plenty of other nifty extras, and not forgetting to mention that I enjoy the temperature control settings, I would recommend this cooktop to anyone. Cleanliness of design, warm-up function, easy to use accessible controls and larger element at front. Watching the price of it go down regularly since buying it on Appliances Online :(
Very Happy – Purchased this for my new kitchen a few months ago, have been using it for about 6 weeks now. I love it. One of the reasons I picked this one was the large element at the front - I have acrylic splash back behind it, & was warned not to put large pots at the back up against it. Difficult to find cooktops that have a large element at the front.… Read more
Really like that it's a triple zone element, so I can also use it as my smallest element, which is how I mostly use it.
I haven't had problems simmering - I cook rice using the steam absorption method on the cooktop, where you bring it to the boil & then turn it down as low as you can possibly go - rice cooks perfectly, far better than I've ever managed with gas.
I also find it easy to clean - the reason I didn't buy gas was because of the fiddly cleaning of gas cooktops! I wipe with a soapy cloth (carefully - just a quick swipe) when I've finished cooking if there are obvious splashes, then when it's cooled down I wipe properly with a soapy cloth, if there are still marks I use the Cerapol (as they recommend) & then I always use the Ceraseal at the end - it has silicone in it, so helps protect the surface from dirt, & also has isopropyl alcohol, so evaporates to a nice sparkly finish. I use paper towels until the last polish, when I use a microfibre cloth (same as an Enjo). Whole thing takes less than 5 minutes.
Admittedly, I haven't had a major messy spill yet, haven't had to use the scraper yet! Was also impressed when the painters DIDN'T PUT A DROPCLOTH DOWN & ended up with white paint droplets all over it - came off with a hot soapy cloth easily! Didn't come off the benchtops so easily!
I like the warning bell if you put something on it when it's hot, don't have kids & so haven't used the child lock.
Controls are easy to use & easy to reach, right at the front. Also has a timer built in, although I don't use it.
So far I'd highly recommend it, would buy it again. Bought several appliances at once, so got a good price. Triple element, easy controls, easy to use, easy to clean.
Stylish and easy cleaning – I have owned 2 of these cooktops over the last 5 years (2 separate houses) they look great and are easy to clean. They have both proved reliable. The adjustable element size on the bottom left element is really handy. I’ve found the ceramic surface quit durable and only notice very light scratches after lots of use. The white painted rings have… Read more
also lasted well. The only negative I can think of, and in my mind it is quite a big one, is that the thermostat makes for difficult cooking. It’s all but impossible to simmer anything on these. It’s either flat-out hot or nothing at all. I guess all ceramic cooktops suffer from this trait and that is why gas and induction are so popular. Overall though, I would buy another one. I would also recommend this product to people who are familiar with cooking on a ceramic cooktop. easy cleaning, reliable, looks good, price Hard to control the heat, especially for simmering
Great product – I like the cooktop and all of its features. The controls are in the front which make it easy to use. The child lock feature is great. It also has a warning bell if you place anything on the cooktop eg a tea towel. The large burner can be boosted to accommodate large pans. I find trying to keep the glass top sparkling is difficult. I now use an… Read more · 1
Enjo green cloth to keep out the streaks. I do not find the polishes that they suggest very helpful. I just use soap and water and dry with the Enjo cloth. Easy to use and child safe white rings on cooktop have faded and disappeared in places
