Very disappointed. Freezer only lasted just over 6yrs before being told after a two week wait the compressor had failed and it is not fixable. They have offered me a pro rata price in a new freezer but at $1100 and a 4 week wait for delivery (after already waiting 2 weeks for service and an outcome) is not good enough. I specifically bought… Read more
Westinghouse as it is meant to be a reliable brand. Spending almost $2000 on a freezer should last longer than 6yrs. I don't think I will pay $1100 for a replacement as why would I trust it again, I see others have had similar issues with it failing just outside warranty. Maybe I'm better off spending under $1000 on a Hisense. Apparently the brand Westinghouse doesn't mean quality anymore.
Failed just out of warranty (2yrs). Westinghouse did cover it under warranty because it was just under 2 months out of warranty but honestly for a ~$1500 freezer they ought to. It took 2 weeks for someone to look at the broken freezer (took all of 5 mins), another 2 weeks to wait for a part to be ordered for them to tell me 10 mins into the… Read more
repair the whole thing needs to be replaced. Add another week for the new one to arrive. So i'll let that speak for itself, 5 weeks to get a working freezer again. I'll likely avoid this brand in the future as my experience was fairly poor.
Just on features, the temperature alarm is mostly useless, sometimes it works but other times when a lot of stuff is defrosted. Door alarm doesn't work when door is slightly ajar (enough to defrost everything overnight). These were 2 major features I selected this freezer for and they work terribly (in fact almost useless).

We selected this freezer when our other one stopped working. The reviews I read about it were good, the only complaint by a few was that the door had a strong seal on it. I see that as being a good thing, and really it is not that hard to open and at least you know your food is well sealed inside. Many commented how good the internal light was,… Read more
and I have to agree. We did not have one in our old freezer but it makes a big difference to have this light turn on every time you open the door. I could not be happier with this freezer. I have freezer boxes on the four shelves that I can just pull out and there are three drawers at the bottom. I have labels on each so it is easy to see at a glance what is stored in each.
Have had it 2 months and the drawers have not ever run smoothly, they basically don't fit. When we bought it we saw great reviews, NOW i see this is a design FLAW as there are reviews going back 4 years saying what i am saying. Not impressed they still sell a flawed product. Do not recommend. Show details

Big unit , average buy for performance – I needed a vertical freezer... updating the old chest type. Westinghouse is in the mid range price and my experiences with previously owned products is good. This unit has basically cloned tech to operate as my other Westinghouse 2 door. So operating it and the usual things that are with it were no surprise or change. The pro's The freezer is… Read more
a combination of closed draw and open shelf design, Open shelf design in vertical freezers is not favourable over draws only as you get more air spill when you open the door. BUT>>> this also is a help to me as I can put more commonly used items in plain sight and larger bulky items such as icebags with adjustable shelf height. So I use the draws for my long term items. This trade off is totally acceptable.
It is quiet in operaton and does not need to be set at very low temp such as -23.C , I find that it is quite reasonable and effective at -18.C and this will also lower power costs too and help with ice cream serving.
The cons.
Its big , and needs room to breathe so dont close them in unventillated designer cupboards , mine is a second freezer so it stands alone in the open.
The adjustment feet are not long enough and are too small at the base which means that it does not have the surface tension to grip floor easily and could be pulled forward. It comes with a rubber slip to help with it and that does help but I think WH , add larger base feet next time with more adjustment range. Once you load it , it will have more weight to help , yet I had to use some additional rubber to pack the feet better.
So far so good...
Great Freezer on Unsteady Feet – We bought a Westinghouse Freezer to match the same brand Fridge ("Pigeon Pair") and I should say that from past experience this brand for reliability, really is a 5-Star unit, so why down to 2x stars here? (Please note: This review is pretty much the same as the one I gave for the Fridge version, as the same goodness, and poor aspects,… Read more
replicate).
Because this review system does not allow for categorical star rating, I'll share our experience below:
We get the Freezer (and the matching Fridge) home, and have to assemble the handles, NOT good to do, but eventually when they are fastened, they are slick and good to use and with elegant style, just like in the shop. Handles to Assemble: 1.5 out of 10 Handles to Use once assembled: 9 out of 10
So now the most important thing in using a Freezer from day to day: Stability. When you open a Freezer, you don't want it to move and slide all over the place; this is especially bad since the rear of the unit requires a minimum gap for ventilation etc. So Westinghouse gives its customer that has paid thousands of dollars, a 2c piece of rubber that we're supposed to slip under the rollers of the Freezer which "weighs a ton to move". Ok so we do this, and it's even worse! The unit moves all over the place! There is a screw-out little feet at the bottom that are supposed to help with the leveling and stability of the Freezer, alas these are utterly useless since they are made of flimsy material, and do absolutely nothing to hold the Freezer at the right level and to provide added stability. Awkward to be wound out, way below good engineering of other much cheaper fridges and Freezer where a nice thick 10mm bolt with plastic feet cover, helps the customer to do a good job of stablizing a Freezer. Also the thermostat is inside, unlike other fridges and freezers that we've seen and have an actual temp. readout and adjustment right there on the door without having to open it!
Anyway, I will give a star rating for the fridge below, based on a 10 out of 10 system (or -10/10).
LED digital temperature control: 6/10 Placement of Temperature Control: 4/10 Inside Freezer Design: 8/10 Noise Level: 7.8/10 Lighting Design Inside: 7.5/10 Space Inside: 8/10 Shelves in Door: none Shelves Inside: 8/10 Draws: 8/10 Stability of Freezer: -8/10 Ready to Go, Assembly of Handle: -3/10 Reliability based on Previous similar models (this is a new unit): 10/10 External Appearance: 5/10 Power Cord Length & Placement Convenience: 6/10 Price Value: 6.3/10
Flat plugs – Best freezer ever. Simple design good quality. Disappointing they still use prehistoric plugs that protrude 4cm out of the wall instead of flat wall plugs. Show details · 1
Poor quality and no service – Purchased less than 2 years ago, was going well and now has stopped after 18 months. We have lost over $700 worth of meat and seafood. Phoned to get someone to service on the Sunshine Coast as it is under warranty and will likely have to wait a couple of weeks for some one to look at it. The freezer smells as you can imagine and I am not happy… Read more
with Westinghouse’s response. Was looking at buying a new cooktop and oven and did have this brand shortlisted, I have now removed them.
Icicles form on the door inside the freezer – Our new freezer forms icicles inside on the door at the top centre (just below the seal) as well as the corresponding area in the cabin. Made a warranty call and the tech came out and advised that is the way they are ie its the design. He explained that the cold air gets pumped out from the rear of the frieezerat the top, travels along the inside… Read more
roof and hits the door and flows down to the rest of the freezer area. The icicles form because the coldest air is hitting the top of door first up. Apparently, the Frost Free does not apply to the inside of the freezer, but applies to the ice not being retained around the cooling plumbing. The seals were checked and all fine and no icicles being formed on the seal itself. The tech was very informative. But just annoying given our previous Westinghouse freezer did not have any such issue. The icicles can be wiped off...but just returns the next day. We were told by the tech that they see a lot of the same issue and nothing they can do. We only run the temp at the mid setting (-18deg). Would be interested in hearing if others have similar issue.
Anyone experienced similar problem with icicles inside the door? Any remedy?
First time disappointment with Westinghouse – I purchased this freezer in November 2021, 17 days past its 2 year warranty it stopped working. We had a service man from Electrolux come out twice over 3 weeks. Freezer still did not work. Mid December it was picked up and taken to the service factory and the fault was a Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The PCB was replaced and the freezer… Read more
returned to us with a now 1 year warranty. I find the warranty on this part rubbish. Our old Westinghouse freezer is still going after 27 years, multiple house moves interstate and overseas. All of the people that I have dealt with during this fault have said the parts Westinghouse use now are cheap foreign plastic and are no longer heavy, sturdy, long term parts. Very disappointing. I've been loyal to Westinghouse for over 30 years but will look at other brands when this freezer breaks down again as I'm sure it will.

Great until just out of warranty – This has been a fantastic freezer, can fit loads into it. Draws are painful as others have mentioned and fall out of the track. We also have the fridge to match which we love. The freezer however doesn’t integrate well with the integration kit so we ended up having to open the cupboard then the fridge. The compressor suddenly failed (after just 6… Read more
years) and we lost our freezer full of food. Disappointing was quoted $900-1000 to fix. For a $1800 freezer 6 year lifespan is pathetic.
Works well but draws are very annoying to use. Wouldn't buy again – Works well in terms of freezing. But the draws are very annoying to pull out. They don't seem to be the right size for the tracks. Very disappointed, especially given the price, wouldn't recommend. Show details

Size comparison/ true volume useable space – Recently taken delivery (Jan 2022) of Thailand made WH vertical freezer WFB4204WB which is supposedly 386 ltr net volume useage (5 shelves and 3 drawers) as opposed to Aust made WH Freezer Freestyle purch in 2001 model Fj383 with 340l net (5wire shelves and 1 wire basket) - which is still doing a good job as a freezer - except is no longer frost… Read more
free. Hence, the upgrade replacement.
(Had two different technician come out, but weren't able to resolve issue of icing up at bottom or shed light to the cause on old freezer of 20yrs.)
The new freezer although stating higher volume capacity actually stores less items. Moved same existing freezer goods from old to new and it was fully packed already. Whilst old freezer had more empty space still avail.
Hopefully, the new freezer will last as long as the old ones. Quality feel (plastic) is not as good compared to old version. New freezer functioning well at present and time will tell with regards to longevity. Not a big fan of the three drawers at bottom - probably taking up too much space due to framing.
Hopefully, westinghouse goods holds onto its great reputation of the past - even though a lot of their stuff are made o/seas.

Know better, choose better.
Bad design – The freezer works well doing its primary job of freezing food but the 3 drawers at the bottom of the unit do not stay in their tracks. Every time you go to open any of the drawers they fall down and are difficult to put back in place. It appears that the drawers are not actually wide enough for the unit so they do not fit correctly into the tracks… Read more
provided. We have had the freezer for 4 years and this has always been a problem. I should have brought this issue up earlier but we live in a rural area that made it difficult to return the freezer.
Quiet, energy efficient and well designed – We replaced an 8 year old Haier chest freezer after the compressor failed and even though that was 100L more in capacity the layout of the upright means it is actually easy to find stuff - indeed we found some stuff in the old we didn't even know was there! The LED lighting is excellent, there is enough flexibility in the layout to set it up to… Read more
suit your needs and you get a choice of temperatures to run it at.
So far (a month in) we've found it to be frost free and it definitely uses less energy than the old one by a fair amount.
About the only negative thus far is that the ice making tray and associated controls are a bit flimsy.
excellent - plenty of room and keeps food well frozen – We bought this as a fridge/freezer pigeon pair. There is an option of attaching the freezer and the fridge together but we didn't take this option. The door was a bit stiff to open and I was afraid that I would always need help to open it but it eases with use, A sharp tug opens the door but it has definitely feels like it has eased with use. … Read more
I am not keen on drawers in any freezer.I prefer to see what;s in the freezer at a glance rather than opening drawers but I have become used to it. There are 3 drawers and you can see through the front of the drawers.
The ice maker does not require plumbing and it's handy. I hate freezer sections where the ice makers takes up a lot of room or needs to be plumbed in. The ice maker does not take up a lot of space and there is plenty of room in the freezer.
Decent size, quality and functions for price – This is a large capacity upright Freezer. Has a matching refrigerator also. We wanted a frost free freezer of a large capacity as we had a 25 year old freezer but it was not frost free. I don't think this will last 25 years though. 3 drawers with remaining shelves being glass. Bottle chill timer which is great as my husband has frozen solid… Read more
many bottles of soft drink over the years.
Smaller than the stated internal size due to lost space around drawers.
Purchased for $1500 in January 2018 it was good value but if purchased at original price when first released it may have been a fair bit dearer.
Does The Job – The Westinghouse Freezer is operative - it does its job, that is it freezes the food! However it is quite a noisy appliance. The freeezer is 420L but surprisingly it does not have good storage space. Too many shelvings and three drawers at the bottom of freezer, it takes up space! The drawers are hard to pull out as it does not glide out easily. Show details
great functional storage space – I bought this freezer because our family had outgrown the space of our old upright smaller freezer. It's got ample storage space for our everyday needs and just saw us through the madness of Christmas baking as well! The interior light has also been a great addition with this freezer- can't believe how many times its come in handy and was… Read more
something I didn't know I wanted/needed.
The drawers slide nicely (unlike the previous upright we owned) and the shelves and ice cube space all work well.
Great freezer for a big family.
Top price and quality – Very happy with my purchase. The shelves are neatly spaced so that there is plenty of room to put larger items neatly and in order, so that there is no time wasted looking where everything is, even at night there is plenty of light inside to see everything. The only drawback is that the motor is a little noisy, but I solved the problem by putting the appliance in the garage and not patio. Show details
Fantastic upright freezer with internal light – Bought to store bulk meat, this second freezer managed to freeze about 250 kg of meat in good time. It is very quiet and features a handy internal light. The sturdy clear shelves and 3 drawers have given plenty of space to store food flat and efficiently. The full length handle on the door makes it easier to open than the old version. I am quite… Read more
impressed with the 3 star energy rating for this freezer.
I would consider upgrading my old Westinghouse pidgeon pair with this new model.
Some good, some bad – First up, I'd like to say that is IS a great freezer in that it keeps things nice and cold! And it has a quick freeze option which is really handy, and easy to use buttons inside up the top (well away from our children's hands...!) for temperature control. BUT it's a little noisy - I keep turning my head wondering what that sound is, only to… Read more
notice it's the freezer. Kind of like a minor low-frequency hum, a bit like a fan. But it's only when the motor is kicking in, so it's not a permanent sound. I wouldn't recommend having this in a smaller room that you are often in. The sound can get quite irritating.
We've had it for about 4 months now. We wanted to change over the hinges, but you can't buy the door reversal kit ANYWHERE except on the Westinghouse website! They didn't have it in stock for 4 months. I called up Westinghouse twice and they were meant to call me back to let me know when it'd be back in stock, but they didn't. Not great customer service on offer, I'm afraid. But today my husband changed the hinges over, since I randomly checked the website last week and lo and behold it was in stock again, and it's just how we want it now. We only had to wait 4 months to get it this way....
It also didn't beep at us after we'd accidentally left it open 1cm (we'd caught a charging cable cord at the top!). The freezer waited until it'd dropped a fair bit in temperature (5 hours of time had elapsed) before continually beeping at us, and water had formed inside. Luckily the food was still frozen, but it meant I had to wipe down all the shelves. Rather annoying.
Having said that, we're still considering buying its pigeon pair for a fridge, as the size is perfect for us and the ergonomics of the unit are great. And the fridge will be going in the kitchen which is noisier anyway, so we probably won't notice it if it's a bit noisy like the freezer.
Ended up buying it from Appliances Online as it was much cheaper AND Harvey Norman didn't have it in stock anyway.
So almost a year later, this freezer is still going well. Yes, it's still a bit noisy, and no,… Read more (+2 replies)
