Yale Unity Entrance Lock
MPNs: YUR/DEL/1/MBK and YUR/DEL/1/SIL1 review
The Unity lock is ok, but needs a bit more polish. I feel they didn't review the scenarios before building it. There's no way to tell if the outside handle is locked from the inside by looking at it (despite there being a light, it doesn't display until you interact with it), you need to press the button to either lock or unlock before you know if it's locked (unless you use the app).
The tone for lock and unlock is so similar, you'll probably end up having to check the outside handle anyway (or lock the door while its open and push it shut. Or use the app).
The light, whether you lock or unlock, is still green, so you have to rely on the tone to determine it's status. Yes, locking the door shows a green light as well as unlocking the door. The only time the light is red is when there has been a problem locking or unlocking.
There's no way to deadlock the inside handle unless you use the app (or, hilariously, you can hold the smart card against the OUTSIDE lock. So, for my too-smart-for-her-own-good kelpie, who can open any door that has a lever handle (push or pull), I have no way of locking her in (unless I use the app or I go around the front of the house). Or, terrifyingly, if you had a toddler that can reach the handle, you will need to dead lock the handle with the app *every* time you close the door. There is no card touch on the inside.
You also only get 2 smart cards, so with this effort required for deadlocking the door, you'll need to make sure all house residents have a card. We have 4 in our house, I need to buy 2 more.
Lastly, 'support' only replies sometimes, I think I am in the too hard basket.
I feel that this lock was supposed to make things a little easier, but its just not working out that way. We have 4 people in the house and nobody can comfortably use the door like you would a door with a good old fashioned key or deadlock. I've obviously also had to significantly modify the door to make it fit so getting rid of it is not an easy option. At this stage though, with our current difficulties, we're going to just fill the extra holes in the door and go back to a good ol fashioned lock.
I will say though, the quality of the handle is great. It looks and feels really nice and you can change which direction the lever points.
(Hilariously, the paid-add-on keypad also has the worst double sided tape in the world. It sticks to the wall but doesn't stick to the keypad. Incredible!)
