Yamaha YHT-1810
MPN: YHT-1810B4 reviews
average at best – I purchased this setup only due to my 20 year old Logitech Z-680 sound system blowing a fuse. So I thought it was time to upgrade to the latest and greatest speakers, and so I stumbled across the Yamaha YHT-1810 that held great reviews and recommendations etc... I was on to a winner, so I thought. However, the sound system is nothing on what the 20 year old Logitech Z-680 was. It doesn't even come close. The sound is horrible, the bass (of what bass there is) is horrible. It has been the biggest disappointment. It is extremely hard to make out what is being said through the speakers when watching the tv, I have tried all the different settings and adjustments yet, I am close to donating it to a charity bin.
Perhaps I have set it up wrong. I am open to suggestions.
Purchased at The Good Guys.
Excellent for the price - Great for those with AV set ups with multiple varied components – Extremely good system - The price is wonderful. Great option for those with more complex AV set ups, that many more expensive powered soundbar/subwoofer, wireless systems don't even bother to cater for. I have connected through the amp: -X box one -Turntable set up going through via Korg Mixer (RCA jacks - the phono jacks are on the Korg) -Nintendo 64 (1990s) -Foxtel -Wii -Google Chromecast -Apple TV
The set up was incredibly simple, even with all of those elements.
In addition, you have control of the levels and the output of the amplifier. My previous system (Kenwood KRF-V4070D) was OK but stuck in annoying presets ('Disco' for example). However, that said, the presets are there is you want them.
The subwoofer is passive, which was a surprise, but the amp has the guts to drive the subwoofer without the need for an external powered amp - I honestly love it. There is a connection for a powered amp though, if you need it.
The remaining speakers are pretty OK, they are in plastic casings but the sound's pretty full and warm. However, I have swapped some over (keeping the left/right surrounds) simply because I had larger, wood encased speakers lying around.
Importantly, the speakers are not powered, and they are all wired, so you need to take that into account. Also, Dolby ATMOS is not supported, but DTS/Dolby digital etc are.
All up - Very happy.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $399.
Small Home Theatre Experience – Had this model since 2014 and still going strong with no electronic problem in my small rental apartment lounge. Because the lounge is small, the front and back small speakers are placed near the ceiling for greater sound differences with treble sounds coming from above head level, while strong bass is coming from subwoofer on the floor level, and while the centre speaker is placed at sofa armchair level. It can take a while to play around with the remote control about the technical features to find out the maximum surround sound volume for each speaker, and understanding the different sound outputs such as DTS or Dolby Digital coming from the Xbox One S game console when playing movie and TV show entertainment apps Netflix and Spotify music app, as well as playing a 2K/4K bluray movie from the Panasonic 4K player, and while watching a big screen 65 inch LG 4K TV. A surge board protector is needed to protect the equipment from power surges and has been protecting them ever since I bought the Yamaha 5 speaker mini system

Its a base model but worth the price – Well I seen the price and had to have it... I got it home and couldn't open it any quicker! Once set up which took 2 hours I was ready. Well I thought I was, the installation guide led me on a wild goose chase, I ended up tangled in cords and still to this day have trouble working out the main functions, my son has worked it out and he is 7. I'm usually good with electronics but this just seems too backwards to understand how to go forward. Scene mode?? I don't get it!! Equaliser that has the option if you live in a cave, pretty handy I suppose. But turn the volume up and its something you should have in a cave, not the best volume, it does have good clarity but it doesn't go as loud as i like before it gets a little distorted... Good product for the price but next time I think I will stay away from Yamaha just from the confusing controls!!
