Won’t go into gear – Hey guys I have a 2014 Renault master x62 automatic The car won’t go into any gear, I can hear the engine making the normal noise when you’re trying to put it in gear. Any recommendations guys?
Most horrible service from RACV – We had the most horrible service from the reputable company RACV. We have had several vehicles insured with RACV for many years without any claims, all under comprehensive insurance. One of our vehicles, a Renault Master (vehicle number: 1SV2ZG), (insurance policy no: MOT694573), and (claim no: RAV23506239), sustained accidental damage. RACV… Read more
organized the pickup for assessment, and after many weeks and numerous phone calls, we were informed that the vehicle was a write-off. Since then, there has been no communication from RACV. After repeatedly contacting them through many phone calls, we were eventually told that the vehicle was repairable. A few weeks later, RACV refused to accept our legitimate accidental claim and asked us to pay for the storage of the vehicle at their depot. From the time of the accident until RACV provided this excuse to refuse our claim, whether for replacement or repair, nearly 5 months had passed. Now, 12 months have passed with no replacement or repair of our vehicle (RACV has not taken any meaningful steps regarding our vehicle), and they are still withdrawing premium payments from our bank account. We are still repaying our vehicle loan and paying the insurance premium to RACV. If anyone has experienced a similar situation, please contact us at 1300518018. We should get-together to bring this issue to the media’s attention.

Renault Master and Trafic gearbox repairs – Not only do I fix these problems, with my auto electrical and mechanical experience, I have built a test bench to test and simulate the robot. I also put the actuator under heavy stress to make sure the components won’t fail in a hurry. So far my success rate is 100% Show details
Renault Van 2022 model - Automatic transmission grinding noise and leaps on cold start – Got a brand new Renault master auto LWB van and has now done 23,000 kilometres only. I noticed this issue since day 1 with the gear shift that when you want to move the selector lever to Drive or reverse there is a strong grinding noise before it engages into the gear intended. Also on cold start once the gear is engaged in drive and on take off… Read more
the van leaps like a manual gearbox that has its clutch released too quick! Absolutely disappointed with the automatic transmission and the service center unable to even diagnose the issue! The low oil level indicator(engine oil) comes up at 15,000kms when the van is supposed to be taken for its first service at 30,000kms. I checked all fluid levels and found the gearbox control module reservoir has water film on the fluid surface and can see metal like particles inside the reservoir. The van otherwise is a real comfortable workspace and does what it is intended for and good fuel economy. I'm unhappy with the fact that this being a new van and I've got to still deal with issues what a old second hand thrashed van owner has to deal with! Would not recommend this product or purchase another Renault product. There are products better engineered and tough to last longer.
Great value van – We bought a 2020 LWB auto shifted Master 2nd hand with 6.5k on it and converted it to a campervan. In the time since, we have toured extensively and have had zero mechanical problems or in fact issues of any kind. The way the gearbox shifts gear takes a little to get used to but, unlike what we have heard about the early models, it has been… Read more
trouble free. Considering the van is fully loaded ALL the time, the fuel economy has been reasonable and averages 10 to 11 litres per hundred kilometres depending on how hard the driving is. Services have been fixed price under the 4 year warranty.
After Sales Service Absolutely Terrible – After sales service is rubbish, my service centre is Springwood Qld they are rude and do not help at all, there head office is also no help, I have had my own business for 10 years and I have never dealt a company that have treated a customer in this type of way, they never call me back, lie and don't fix your van properly, get them to look at it… Read more
the other day and there was a pump that was not plugged back in under the engine, dont waste your time buying one of these piece of crap!

A Life of Renault Vans – Affordable Built for purpose Great motors and manual gearboxes. Comfortable, driver at least. Serviced every 10,000 klms at my personal mechanic shop. Cheaper and more control over my costs. They service 9 different vans and utes for me. DPF filters were an ongoing issue in my vans, used as courier vans, until varying their routines long vs short… Read more
trips fortnightly. The stop start mode, doesn't really save me any extra $ fuel wise, but does have an effect on the life expectancy of the van's starter motor. Replacement costs of $1500 to $2000 hurt. The " Door Handle Replacement " issues in my vans are legendary both in replacements and costs, also constantly removing the door trims cause further issues with plastic clip replacements. Spare parts costs are also fairly hefty, the side door on one of my vans wore out the runners and the only way to correct it was to purchase a whole new side door at a cost in excess of $2000. It remains shut and unusable. The front ends in Renault's are probably a bit lightweight for Australian roads, considering the conditions endured on our " A grade national highways " Safety equipment in the current Master vans is almost crimminal, considering the prices rose significantly in the last 12 months. 3 airbags for a van this size is unacceptable, as is the lack of safety options available in opposition vans. In the past Renault's warranty plans were exceptional in my case. A new stand alone importer / distributor is not so accomodating and it will be very interesting to see what value the new 5 year/200,000 klms warranty, actually provides. My vans are used everyday as courier vans and hotshot drives to the mines throughout Australia. They have never let me down on the open road. Breakdown issues around town were battery or DPF related. I am very happy with the fuel costs of my vans and tyre usage is reasonable considering the job the do. As always, nothing is perfect, but I have generally been happy with my Renault ownership (I currently have 3 late model Master vans).
It is a good van but mechanical improvements required – I replaced 2015 Renault master with the new one 2020 Auto, LWB a few months back. All new shape and dashboard. It is mechanically very reliable vehicle. Load in it 1.6t and tow1.5t simultaneously with no worries. On my 2015, had 130k, bought brand new, had no problems at all. The total expenses including tires, brakes and four services $3200.00… Read more
were spent for five years, that's about $540.00 for a year. Fair dinkum!!! Purchase cost is cheaper than others. Standardised, only Fiat Ducato takes more payload. Problems: Automated gearbox had no issues but gear ratios are too far apart. When loaded and come out of a driveway and start towards uphill, this van does not like it. It drove almost half a kilometre in the first gear. Tried to shift in the second but gear change is slow therefore shifts back in the first. Terrible. My neighbour's VW crafter went past laughing. Do not even try to reverse on a inclining driveway even half loaded. just rubbish gearbox. Straight and flat roads drive only van. Mechanically, it is a good van but least powerful even less than LDV. Updates, you will have to reborn in the second life before you see one. Gear lever/shifter, engine output, for example. Too low to have a tow bar. I had a go with LDV deliver 9 but that beaten me in a straight run, both vans were unloaded, let alone VW, MB, Ford, and Fiat. Hard plastics on the doors, had to make leather soft padding to stop bruises.
Funny, last model had back sensors, but new one not. When asked they said because vans have back camera. However, manual vans have back camera and reverse sensors but autos not. Comes with one folding key and another fixed. The dashboard audio screen looks like 1960s television.
After all, low power and gearbox is annoying. But price, running and servicing costs, payload, load length, resale value, and reliability are class leading in my view.

Dear [name removed],
I am writing to regarding our company's Renault Master Commercial Van purchased in November 2013 XXX XXX (VIN #: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX).
The vehicle that was purchased has had a host of repetitive faults, issues and major failures keeping the vehicle off the road (at times), and created loss of revenues. I have been in a repetitious loop with your customer service team which has now come to a complete stand still with a host of issues and faults still unresolved. The vehicle itself has been nothing but problematic since day of purchase and not fit for use and for this reason I come to you today to give the opportunity to resolve the matter before taking the matter before VCAT, Consumer Affairs and/or the ACCC for a replacement vehicle / full refund.
I refuse to deal with your customer service team going forward as I have lost my entire trust and faith in them and the Renault brand due to these issues and the customer experience provided to date.
The faults and failures that I am referring to are as follows;
1. GEARBOX - Gearbox seized in Neutral during normal driving operation - while stopped at light or following parking on numerous occasions during the first year of ownership until vehicle was placed on a tow truck and towed from high profile clients property. Gear box was replaced.
2. Check Engine Light Sensor - 4 warranty service visits. Boost sensor replaced following multiple visits
3. Drivers Side And Slide Door Handle Failure - In excess of 5 warranty service visits. Drivers door handle assessed numerous times prior to eventually been installed with new updated OAM parts. Slide door handle replaced twice.
4. Repetitive Slide Door Alignment, Sensor And Warning Light - Major Ongoing Problem - The passenger side sliding door rail, alignment and closing mechanism is faulty - Sensor constantly beeps, warning lights sound, door does not close properly, Vehicle does not does not lock correctly. 7 Warranty service visits. Not Resolved
5. Slide Door Closing & Lock Mechanism - Failed due to above point. Lock mechanism is not aligned to allow proper functioning, either becomes damaged or not functional (seized). Cannot lock vehicle. Repaired once at charge (should have been repaired under warranty) Failed again in in Gippsland on the 15/2. Door had to be secured shut by ratchet straps from the interior so vehicle could be driven home. Remains secured shut by ratchet straps. Vehicle cannot be locked up. securely. High risk of property and equipment theft.
6. Radio And Bluetooth Operation - Vehicle purchased with premium audio sat nav pack - bluetooth phone functionality is faulty / no adequate quality to use. Functionality has never been at a standard where use is suitable while driving. Unable to conduct business phone calls / contact staff members while on the road. Numerous attempts to repair with no positive result. Intermittent radio problems (changes stations and turns on and off). Has been assessed on numbers occasions with no positive result
7. Air Conditoner Unit / Compressor Faulty - Failure of compressor unit December 2017. Occurred in our peak season and lead up to Christmas. This should not happen within this legth of time. Compressor unit of extremely bad quality. Unit has not been repaired issue unresolved
The vehicle has visited renault service centres 14 times outside of the scheduled service interval for warranty or no charge items - this does not include service visits where a service receipt was not issued (estimated at an additional 4-5 visits)
The purchase of this vehicle and ongoing faults and issues are:
- Not of acceptable quality
- Product has not matched description when purchased
- Not fit for purpose
- Problems have been ongoing and not resolved
We would not have purchased the vehicle if we knew these items were not up to standard and ongoing issues and faults would ensue.
All service receipts are attached for reference. Please note full records from City Renault are not available as the business was sold and full service receipts were not available (approximately 4 visits - some basic information provided)
In addition Renault Australia customer service has been completely unacceptable in their efforts and resolutions. They;
1. Don’t care
2. Never return you call or call you back pertaining to issues
3. Leave issues, faults or concerns unresolved on numerous occasions.
4. Rarely or do not acknowledge issues and faults you have put forward via phone or email
4. Do not treat issues with respect or urgency that they require
5. Empathise or care for your issues or concerns
As an example on numerous occasions I have asked the customer service manager to return my call pertaining to the issues and faults, never on one occasion have they. I have given up entirely on this avenue.
As you can read I am a very frustrated business consumer having put up with these issues for far too long and I am giving you the the opportunity to right the wrong, make amends and resolve the matter before it is taken to VCAT, Consumer Affairs and/or the ACCC.
Your urgent attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. I would like a response by COB Tuesday the 20th of February

All in all I would strongly advise against purchasing a vehicle from this company particularly so the Renault Master Model given this and others reviews. We have owned multiple commercial vans (new and used) but this is by far the worst of them. Customer Service leave a lot to be desired. Actually they are beyond a joke. As one reviewer mentioned I would rather stab myself in the eye with a fork if I had the option of this and dealing with this company any further or in the future.
I personally wish any others all the best in your endeavours should you be experiencing the similar problems and again reiterate on my experience - please avoid this van and company (based on customer service and dispute resolution) at all costs.

When replacing defective components for your vehicle – When replacing brakes and calipers use the best ceramic units available. Ensure your repairers are not importing cheaper copies. Also, don't use the Renault brakes and calipers as there are better manufacturers, in Taiwan, especially. Always ask for your defective components to be returned to you and, check the replacement items are what's being put in are legitimate. Show details
Great work van, this is my 4th Renault commercial – Love the van, and I always bought manuals, we do country miles and average about 7lt/100k, with fair loads. Early dealers in Canberra were great, with nothing too much trouble, and loan cars were always arranged for country operators. We bought 3 Renaults from them, the last one supplied from Melbourne dealership. We live 3 1/2 hours from… Read more
Canberra, present ACT franchises will do loaners only if you bought the van from them and are very vague about when you could come for service. Not impressed. Luckily the van is trouble-free and would buy another and only complaint is not being able to get the van serviced by a Renault dealer.
My 3rd Renault Master – I have had 3 Renault Masters keeping each for about 4-5 years each and putting between 110-140,000km on each. I ONLY bought manual transmission as the auto's look and feel horrible, but the manuals are silky smooth and would recommend. I have had found the vans very mechanically reliable but have had the odd electrical / sensor issue. Sadly had… Read more
an ECU go on my current van about 6 months out of warranty so had to fork out AUD$2200 for that fix, but other than that they have been good. Now the warranty period is 5 years is a real positive. Renault Australia could do a better to keep more parts in the country for when something does go wrong. For the price compared to the the Crafter and Sprinter they are good value.

Continual problems. Poor customer service – Please be extremely careful buying one of these. I purchased to use as a courier vehicle, within 2 weeks of purchase the driver's side door handle came off, within the 1st month the clutch master cylinder failed. Leaving me without a vehicle for 2 weeks, thankfully no problems for the next 10 months, however when taken for 1st service 25000ks… Read more
I was told it needed new rear rotors and pads, these vehicles may pass aus standards, but are not designed for our conditions. Then not even 1 week after service the clutch master cylinder fails again. Again leaving me without a vehicle. It's now a week and a half later and there is still no approval for the van to be repaired. Renault customer service are as usefull as a white crayon too. Ooh things take time. I wish anyone who purchases said vehicle all the luck for the future. You'll need it.
Was a good price, but now has cost a bomb – I use the van everyday, I drive it easy and nice but it just breaks down. Gearbox issues, clutch issues, map sensors and other sensors, now water pump has failed. Show details
0/10 dangerously poor design – There’s too many things about this vehicle that annoy me to list them all. If you’re looking for a vehicle that’s unique for the sake of it rather than to make any improvements then this is the one. Show details

I drove it to the nearest Renault service centre to get a diagnosis and was told that each time they did a diagnosis it had gotten worse,, now undrivable.. Renault refuse gearbox warranty claim – I have had an ongoing gearbox problem since the warranty period. Now it's out of warranty Renault is refusing to repair it! I have pointed out that I have been dealing with this problem for three years and now this problem had become dangerous I have sort to have the problem fixed. The gearbox won't select a gear and I'm stuck in the traffic. Apparently this is a gearbox problem with the earlier models , mines a 2012 model! Show details
Brand new Renault master no aircon – I brought motorhome and its built on Renault master, found out later aircon doesn't work was told by pary Renault the part would take 2 weeks to get here from France, now they are saying another 2 weeks I can not believe they have no spare parts in Australia. I'm not a very happy customer especially living in townsvile where aircon is a must all year round, the van is only 5 weeks old and has been sitting in my driveway for 4 of them. Show details
Motorhome base – Very happy with the Mater cab chassis. Had it for two years and done 20,000 kms with zero issues. Capped price servicing is good at the $349 price I qualified for when I bought mine. It kept going back to be repaired time and time again...then Renault finally came up with an idea to sort it ...Cable ties!!!...Yep, that's the best they've got.. wow.
Then, on a return trip from Qld outback, in the middle of nowhere, it just stopped.....engine was running but had no gears what so ever.
Called roadside assist... what a foul joke that is. They will lie and lie and lie to try and get out of helping ..putrid grubs...promise what ever they need to to get you off the phone, then deliver nothing.
So finally the car gets dropped off at DC Motors in Rockhampton (they were pretty good) but oviously being screwed over by head office as well.
It took 2 months for dc motors to even get an order number from renault so warranty work could begin???
So then they told me it was the engine bay wiring loom .....yeah right.
So after 3 months I finally get a call to go pick it up, so I jump in it, drive 5 k's up the road annndd...Bang!! a huge noise underneath the driver and an almighty grinding sound, once again, under me.
So I pull over, look underneath and all I could smell was trans fluid.
So then it gets back to DC motors, I spend half a day being screwed over again by Renault head office, they've avoided honouring the roadside assist ....again!!
So now after nearly another 2 months (and $50k lost earnings) they called last week, its fixed.
Now cop this!!..."it was a faulty seal in the rear left axle which caused debri to get in there and caused a retension spring to collapse" I kid you not, that's what they have said....wow...
The saga continues....(and this is the much abbreviated version)
