My 2004 trafic was running but once I turned it off it wouldn't restart. Still clicks over. Lost speedometer and all lights except hazards still work but no other lights. Could it be a blown fuse or something more than a fuse?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently driving a Renault Trafic II 2DCI (2010) with a quickshift/tecshift automatic transmission. The switch robot has not been working properly lately and has now even stopped working completely. I can still hear the engines of the robot turning, but nothing happens. I am going to repair this myself.

I am looking for information or which type oil can i use for a quickshift/tecshift? There are plenty of workshop handbooks, but they don’t refer to the 2.DCI with tecshift/quickshift.

Does anybody know where I can find more information regarding the tecshift box, or know where I can download the complete 2.DCI with tecshift manual?

Hi everyone, my Renault master 2014 van showing engine oil pressure fault warning with stop signal light . What van still running smooth. Any help as I don't wanna damage the engine

If engine has plenty of good oil in it, and an oil filter that gets changed regularly; then the Oil Pressure sensor may be faulty. If engine starts up ok when cold, and it quietens down quickly as the oil starts to circulate; that may confirm Oil pressure sensor is faulty....

Dirty/clogged fuel filter causing fuel starvation when motor under load.... Or maybe you got a tankful of poor fuel ???

Don't buy one. Mine is just out of the garage with 70 000 km on the clock. $4000 to replace the timing chain and they didn't put the engine back properly it is now touching the chassis creating horrible vibrations in the cab. No warranty at all with Renault. I claimed about 15 different problems and NONE of them is covered under warranty. I had to pay despite the vibrations or i had to leave the van at the mechanic. The only thing you can do is pay, leave get a quote from a different mechanic and go to court. Do not waste your time with consumer protection, they can no help you. And yes, Renault timing chains have to be replaced every 60 to 100 000 km.

My Renault Trafic/Mitsubishi Express is awesome . Very happy with it . Go look at the Vito Reviews . Even with something as bomb proof as that van you have people that give it bad reviews . For me , i think the Trafic is a good van . Go test one yourself and see

Hi, We have an issue with the coolant water leaking on long trips e.g travelling on highway for approx. 100km. 2 x Renault service can't seem to fix the issue. No external leak. Has anyone else had this issue? Or does someone know what it could be?

prekkp
prekkp

The answer is in your question Renault service Take it somewhere else most likely the Renault techs you are going to may be new to Renault Also Your question doesn’t show state city etc Or how many Kms on engine this is needed and How often serviced etc The answer applies to all vehicles once these are known X82 traffics run very cool hence they have long service intervals oil doesn’t burn but in Australia especially hot locations oil changes should be more frequent These (all) euro engines need specific engine oil that is DPF compliant But if you losing coolant no leak and no coolant in oil then it has to be going out exhaust so could be major but knowing the answers above can give my thought or opinion

Hi BGM. İssue may be with the master cylinder, is it engaging gears? I recently had my issue fixed, and cost $1300. My issue was it didn't / wouldn't know which gear to select. At one stage I was able to select manual shifting and drive. Are these the issues you are experiencing?

bgm

Hi not really. It still drives beatifully. Just cant get it into neutral, cant go into manuel. and have to very deliberate when selecting 1 & reverse. Was wondering about solenoid.

Has anyone had gear box issues with a Renault Trafic 2016 x82 Manual. Currently own one since new and just got news gear box may be gone (or on its way). Out of warranty and may need to consider rebuild, however have trouble finding someone who works on Renault Vans in Melbourne.

Have the same van,5th gear grinds though not every gear change. 4th has just started to pop out 190000 on clock. Honestly been absolute bulletproof! I’m up for a new/reconditioned tranny or weather it’s a bad synchro or throw out bearing. Will soon find out. Goodluck

Its been a while now, but I ended up getting a new gearbox. Haven't had any issues with the Van since. Changing to 2nd gear feels a little weird but only when cold. Goes away once it warms up

Hi Louise, I am not sure if it would be a good idea for a camper van or travelling around in Australia. Although they are great cars to drive and comfortable over long roads you will still have the problem of maintenance. Most local mechanics don’t have the diagnostic equipment to repair the cars, and Renault dealers are not cheap. They are is a lot of electronic sensors that can fail and then you will be tearing your hair out. Purely for serviceability (and it hurts me to say it as I love French Cars.) I would recommend a Toyota. The extra money you pay upfront will be less than the maintenance cost. This would be also true for a any other European van including the Ford transit. My recommendation would be different only if you are looking to do deliveries around a major city and you have identified a Renault service centre.

Hi Louise, I agree with Terry R. I just got make 2014 back from repairs, clutch issues. Cost $1900. I needed to replace a the driver side window regulator, due to wire snapping. Renault asking $1015 Just for the part. I pulled apart and replace a broken wire for $13. My advice .. stay away bo matter what. I've had issues from day 1, and was purchased brand new.

I've had replaced or repaired, since purchasing new. Clutch upgrade, gear selector sensor, regulator, master cylinder, . Van is on 119000kms. Other than that , is a comfortable ride. Helpful info I hope. Try hiace or transit.

I have 2012 120000 kms 5 times back for repairs. If you plan to tour renault service agents then go for it. (for some reason I still love it. It just doesnt love me)

Maybe you have already bought one by now. Just some advice you need to tape up from the bottom of the windscreen and the plastic trim where the wipers sit. It is a common problem but water gets underneath and drips on the injectors which cause them to fail and seize in the head. Trust me it’s an expensive job as I have already experienced it.

We have a new Renault Trafic - end June 2020. The oil warning light keeps coming on. The technician at our Renault dealer told us it is normal for it to use between 6-8 Litres of oil before its first service at 30,000km. Has anyone else heard of this?

Gordon
Gordon

That is not correct ,there is obviously another problem. Make sure they put that in an email to you. If you are filling up with extra oil make sure you use the exact specified oil ,as they will get it analyzed, if its not what is specified they will say its your fault.

We had one that was overheating so topped van up with coolant before taking it in to see what the issue was ,they got the coolant analyzed and said it was my issue not theirs, as it was not to there exact specification.

I have same issue with 2018 Trafic. Oil service light and Anti Pollution System warning coming on every 6-7 months. Castle Hill Renault has been telling me varying and contradictory stories. From what I can piece together it is an issue with the DPF regeneration and how the software, the type of oil they use and various sensors all combined cause this mismatch. I think they are still trying to figure it out themselves but their solution is to keep charging you for an oil change ahead of schedule $350 and doing forced regeneration another $100.

I had the side door not closing properly. I noticed the latch on the door had loose screws. Since tightening them myself, it fixed the issue.

Hi everyone, at the moment I'm about to buy a Renault Trafic (2012 or 2014), one of them have had their transmission replaced, the other one not yet but as it seems pretty jerky I worry the time to change might come for that one too, do all Renault Trafic of that version (2012-2014) have the same problem?

Hi, I have a Renault tragic from 2003, diesel, and it has been funny sometimes. A few times now the engine shuts down whilst driving, and I can't really figure out in what situation but I have the feeling it happened when I was getting more speed but it's kind of unpredictable.. in my last long trip I tried to be more careful gaining speed and it didn't happen at all.. Then, when I restart the engine it works perfectly fine, I even restarted it whilst still moving once and just continued driving. so I wonder if someone can help me with this. Also some times the preheating warning light lights up but again when I restart the engine it goes of again.. not really sure if they can both be related but doesn't seem so. Any help? Thanks a lot in advance. Joao

Sorry I'm not sure. And if you were to get Renault involved. They more then likely would have no idea either. Sorry I can't help you.

That's an easy fix. Sell it and buy something that doesn't come from the French lemon maker. Avoid Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. All three are from the same family. My guess would be the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Tmiller1079

Sounds like an electrical problem, but whether it's computer, or a sensor that fails occasionally, who knows? If it were me I would try taking it to Renault and seeing if they can diagnose it. Be aware though that intermittent faults are notoriously hard to decipher.

Hyper nerd
Hyper nerd

With out actually seeing the vehicle or checking the engine control unit for faults I would say it is a chafed wire. Given the age and the fact that many hands would have worked on it I would not be surprised to find a wire rubbing on something wearing through the insulation and shorting out.

With the car running and bonnet up move the wiring that you can touch around in the engine bay and see if the car stalls. Bang the brackets that hold the ECU and fuse box with (LHF in engine bay) you hand to see if the might have a wiring short.

Let me know how you go.
