Think ebike meets push mower – Great lightweight mower if you have a relatively small flat lawn clear of debris and don't mind pushing. This is our first foray into cordless mowers… Read more

having already purchased other Ozito tools and batteries. It is certainly less expensive than most other cordless alternatives. Light weight makes it easy to transport and store. We have a medium size Sir Walter buffalo lawn which we keep at least 1 to 2 inches in length so often find I'm pushing hard to progress through thicker grass which may be 3 plus inches long. The mower is surprisingly torquey, and up for it and the 4Ah battery lasts the distance. Worth having a spare just in case, or rotating areas over different days. The blades are super sharp straight out of the box which means the cutting action is great but easily damaged if you hit a stone which can stop the reel rotating and require a file and re-adjustment. This machine is also allergic to hardwood chip mulch as it will instantly lock up on a chip and require releasing. Difficulty inserting the battery can be a minor annoyance as it requires perfect alignment to slide in it's holder and you often find yourself having to get down low to do that. Due to its light weight it can float over the grass at times so needs downwards pressure to keep it's 'bite'. Height adjustment is a waste of time. It needs to be set at it's lowest to maintain a reasonable length and the handle position is too low for a taller operator. I modified mine so the handle is locked at a higher position and downwards pressure can be maintained. This made the difference between being useful v. useless. Like all reel mowers it will leave some patches and miss grass unless your ground is perfectly flat. Be prepared to criss-cross some areas if not. The catcher is a waste of time as it quickly fills and it is a pain to bend over to release and re-attach. Easier to rake afterwards.

Finding it difficult to start the petrol mower as I get older, yesterday we bought an Ozito 36v steel deck mower. I was impressed by the solid… Read more

appearance and features of the mower. That said I was not expecting great performance from it, I did not think two battery packs would provide the power or range to match the old 4 stroke. How wrong I was. Having assembled it and charged the batteries last night I mowed the front lawn this morning. I was instantly very pleased by the performance. It ate up the front lawn which was in need of a cut. Then I went out the back and put it through some weeds that had got quite big. It never hesitated. It's not something I will do with it often, but it proved to be a powerful tool, and has a surprising length of use without going flat. The control bar is simple to use and the noise level is quite low and not unpleasant. The catcher fills right up before needing to be emptied. The Ozito mower has certainly exceeded my expectations, and with a 5 year warranty I think we made a good purchase. I recommend it.

I love my little mower! – I've had this mower for 2.5 years and I love it. It is lightweight and so easy to push around. The convenience of the battery means no having to… Read more

store fuel in tins or pull start or do anything. You just put the battery in and go. But use common sense, people! It will not cut long, thick grass. You can't leave the lawn and only mow once a fortnight. This is a small mower with a little, battery powered, engine. I live in SE Qld and, in Summer, I will mow twice a week. Sometimes three times, depending on the weather. I have a 470sqm block with a couch lawn. Frequent mowing improves the lawn and makes the job easy. It takes me less than 30 minutes. I just take the top off to keep the lawn looking nice. I've read many negative reviews about it being difficult to assemble, but I had no problems at all. The battery is a little hard to remove if you have small, sore hands, but I manage by using two hands instead of one. At under $200 it's excellent value for money and comes with a 5 year warranty! I was unable to mow my lawn with the old, traditional, heavy mower. Couldn't push it, couldn't pull start it. The little Ozito has given me back my mowing independence!

I am totally impressed by my new cordless electric lawn mower from Ozito. It was simplicity itself to assemble the PXBTMK-2438 kit. My yard is quite… Read more

large with dozens of trees, shrubs, garden beds, paths, a shed and driveway, all on a slope. The light 13.5kg weight of this mower made it much easier to mow around all these obstacles. Today the grass was quite long and damp from an overnight shower. The Ozito 36 volt mower was powerful enough to cut the grass cleanly, 'like a hot knife through butter'. I mowed both the front and back lawns on a single charge. And the Ozito twin fast charger had both batteries full again in about an hour (charged by solar power). What's not to like. My trusty 30 year old Rover Craftsman will be given away now because the Ozito is half the weight, more powerful and quieter with no petrol to worry about. If I could suggest one idea to Ozito it would be add red guide marks to clarify where the batteries slot into the mower. So... the start of a new era.

My home lawn area is about 400 m2. I mow on the 2nd (rarely 3rd) lowest positions. With 2 x 4000 mAh (18 V) batteries I can mow the entire lawn with… Read more

ease, provided the mower does not have to increase power too often to handle longer grass or lots of large fallen leaves. In my area (the NSW Northern Rivers) that means mowing every 1-2 weeks in the grass-growing (and leaf-falling) season. If the lawn is left to grow longer, it is necessary to mow at a higher setting and/or wait while the batteries recharge. It is also possible to use higher capacity batteries, but they are expensive.

My other mower is a Victa Commando 2-stroke (same cut diameter of 18 inches = 460 mm). Over the years, I have repaired it with new fuel tap, air filter, spark plug, plug boot and carby kits, none of which will be needed for the battery machine. The rechargeable batteries will eventually die, but should cost much less to charge and replace than all the fuel and oil I would otherwise use. The Ozito 36 V, 460 mm steel-deck mower is much lighter than a comparable petrol mower, and therefore faster to use. I need to lift the mower over a wall, which is much easier with the lighter machine. Some people say the wheels look flimsy on this Ozito model, but they seem fine for the mower weight. I will probably sell or donate the Victa (beloved for 20 years), as now I always choose to use the Ozito (let’s hope it will last as long - seems sturdy enough).

No mucking about with measuring a fuel-oil mixture, priming an engine, pulling a starter cord, or inhaling the smoke. I recharge batteries after mowing, so the Ozito is ready to go. It cuts beautifully. There is no mulching function, but it is easy to use the catcher, which works amazingly well. The mower stops and restarts easily each time the catcher is emptied. It has less vacuum-cleaner action than the Victa, so it gets all the grass clippings and leaves without sucking up the soil. I have not tried it on wet grass: mowing is so quick and easy, I just wait for the lawn to dry between showers.

For an average suburban lawn, I would not recommend a smaller (narrower cut) mower. It is not worth all the extra pushing back and forth. Spend a little more on a 460 mm machine, which is probably also more robust. Commercial operators and farmers may be better off with petrol mowers, but battery mowers are now much better in suburbia. The up-front cost is still higher than a comparable petrol mower, but that should be recovered in lower running cost over the machine life, and this battery machine is much easier to use.

Some people say Ozito is low-end, but I think you have to look at each machine to decide what best suits your needs. I have some Ryobi tools, so I already have their batteries, but for me this Ozito was the better mower and I was prepared to buy it. If you want, you can buy an inexpensive 3rd-party adapter for different battery shapes.

Edit: After a few months, the handle came loose. It is attached to the steel cowl by bolts with nyloc nuts. Those at the front/top are accessible from both sides and can be tightened. For those at the rear/side, the nuts are behind a plastic shroud, which has to be removed to tighten the handle bolts. This is a design flaw. Removal of the plastic shroud requires complete disassembly of the rear part of the mower, including the height adjuster, the rear axle and the rear spring-flap. Most of this (including the rear axle) is secured only by screws into plastic: so be careful not to over-tighten the screws and strip the plastic on reassembly. The rear flap requires removal of at least three circlips (which is difficult, but possible with the right tools). The circlips do not spring back to shape after removal. Having no spares, I had to wire them closed after reassembly. I also turned the rear handle nuts to the outside, so I will have a fighting chance to tighten them without disassembly next time. Overall the mower can be improved by simple attention to the design. But it still seems like a fair deal for the current price, at least for those capable of performing such repairs.

I got this cordless lawnmower for $179 from Bunnings, after my previous corded one conked out. I didn't really want to spend too much (cordless ones… Read more

tend to be pricey) and I thought I'd gove this one a go, when I saw a whole stack of them in Bunnings. It's a kit, so it also includes one 4Ah battery and charger . I was a bit worried about the 18V operation, as the 36V ones would be more powerful and last longer but my wallet said no to those. We have a relatively small overall lawn area (<75m2) in small patches here and there and I was getting tired of pulling the extension cord everywhere. It turned out OK, though. It was easy to put together. All areas can be completed on one battery charge. We don't have heavy grass or tall weeds and if you have that, it may not be suitable but for realtively easy jobs, it's an excellent value lawn mower. Even a family member who is fussy about usability issues, thought it was OK, after using it. It's also not too noisy, which is nice. I'm not sure how long it will last but it seems reasonably solid for an entry level thing. The brushless motor reduces maintenance needs and there is a higher capacity Ozito PXC battery available should the job be a bit larger - or you can just buy an extra battery like I have done. I'm sharing a set of PXC batteries among a few Ozito power tools that I have. The 330mm cutting width is not massive but workable and larger than the entry level 300mm "toy" lawn mowers. There is one weird feature, the "security key". I think it's meant to stop accidental starts when removed, for example during maintenance. However, the manual doesn't adequately explain this. Once it's removed, it's a loose item which is easy to lose. It's more of a nuissance than help. They could've done something better. Also, the battery is fiddly to insert but these are relatively minor annoyances. In summary, the PXLMK-1833 is a great choice if you need a light duty, no fuss lawn mower and you don't want to spend too much money. Not for a heavy duty job but quite usable and great value.
