Yes, this will be my mattress from now on - definitely found a "better sleep" on this one – Preparing a comfy place to sleep is a science in itself. I am an engineer. That helps… ;) First up: I am well pleased with this ”Zinus Comfort… Read more

Chiro Pocket Spring” Mattress, Queen-size. I definitely sleep better on this mattress compared to how I slept on my old mattress, even though my former mattress was just about 3 years old and was in many ways quite similar – it is apparently the detail of comfort, which they got just right on the Zinus mattress. And: The Zinus mattress is not overly expensive either… It is quite shocking, how much some mattresses can cost – I just saw an EOFY year advertisement, where a reduced mattress still costs more than double of what the Zinus mattress costs.

The Zinus mattress allows me to sleep comfy in every position, i.e. on my back, on my sides and belly down. And I am aware that exactly this is the great challenge to any maker of a mattress: Getting the balance right: Because when positioned on my back, I want it soft, but not too soft. When positioned on my sides, I want it quite soft to minimize the pressure on my lower shoulder, which bears a lot of my body-weight. When positioned belly down, I don’t want to be in a bed, which bends my spine backwards, thus I in that position I would want it more on the hard side. And the Zinus mattress allowed me to rest in all 4 positions (this includes 2 side positions) perfectly and comfy without pain. So they got it just right.

My old mattress (bought at Aldi) was very similar in design and it also arrived rolled up in a “small” package, vacuum-sealed. The difference was that the old mattress was slightly less soft. To ensure this is not just a subjective statement, but objective proof, please find my test-description in the last paragraph. I fixed this problem of my old mattress of being a bit too hard by placing a Queen-sized memory foam on top of it, but this had the effect that it was a touch too soft when positioned belly down. After a couple of years I came up with the idea of folding over the memory foam and having it on one half of the bed only, where I would sleep on the side, and when I want to position myself on my belly I rolled down to the other half of the bed. It was better than before, but not perfect and a bit complicated. So I and really pleased with the new Zinus mattress as it is very comfy as it is (without having to “jump thru hoops”)…

As you noticed by now, I have done a lot of thinking regarding comfy sleeping, because I am very sensitive in these regards. And as such, my praising of the Zinus mattress says quite something… Plus, I have some more advise for the perfectly comfy sleeping position, while we are at it, showing again that I gave that subject of ample of thought: Apart from a comfy mattress I need 4 pillows to be able to sleep – I need all 4 when resting sideways, less in the other positions. Sideways: Memory foam pillow for head, normal pillow between knees (to avoid those pressing on each other), normal pillow under lower hand, memory foam pillow between lower arm and upper arm. – I hope to have helped with that description a lot of people, who cannot sleep without pain…

I’ll definitely be sleeping on the Zinus mattress from now on. I have to find a place where to store the old mattress, which is as new, but just not as comfy.

Just a small suggestion: My old mattress had 4 hand-straps to make moving it easier, hence, my suggestion would be to add those hand-straps to the Zinus mattress as well…

I also actually tested the “softness” of the mattress not just subjectively (by sleeping on it) but also objectively by doing a repeatable observable experiment. See my fifth picture below. I was inspired by the “Brinell Hardness Test” used in the industry: I used a stack of 4 x 2.5kg gym weights and placed them on both mattresses (my old one and the Zinus mattress) and observed how deep that stack would sink in when looking at it from a viewpoint, which is on the same plane as the surface of the mattress. Result: On the Zinus mattress the stack was protruding only equivalent to the thickness of 1 weight – on my old mattress it was protruding equivalent to the thickness of 1.5 weights, which confirms my subjective assessment that the Zinus mattress is just a little bit softer, which makes it the better mattress, given that my old one was just a tick too hard.

So in summary I would really recommend this Zinus mattress for a better sleep.

get rid of it asap. It’s advertised for support but it’s nothing like that at all. And the kicker is I can’t return it. I have two mattress toppers on it to try and mask how uncomfortable it is but it still wont work. There’s better products out there.
