Acer Aspire V3

The V3-571G is limited and adequate for todays computing – The Acer V3-571G has potential to be a great laptop of its era but and out of the box, its CPU and GPU overheat, its HDD is too slow, the keyboard is just a mess, as it highlights words and paragraphs , when you don't intend them to and its just a bad keyboard (never ever experience such a bad backboard in 30 years) and its internal cooling and… Read more
venting is 'definitely' not adequate enough, for the quality of hardware as this laptop overheats far too much and to dangerous temps e.g. the single internal mini fan is cooling both the GPU and CPU, the LCD monitor is not of HD high quality as its max is only a 1366x678MHz.
I bought a V3-571G second hand and had to do allot of modifications e.g. change the bottom chassis, as when I opened the case, the mounting points at the screen hinges just broke, due to the plastic deteriorating then, I had to install an SDD (which is very easy to install (as you only have to open the back cover and install the new drive) and if you buy a Samsung SDD, its got its own "Migration Tool" that makes it very easy to migrate and copy your old HDD to the new SSD) as the old spinner HDD was just too slow, for todays Win-10 demands. I also had to drill extra vent holes in the new chassis that I had to buy (for extra cooling) and also install a vent suction fan, so that this laptop has adequate cooling, especially when playing games and both GPU and CPU are working full bore. I had to also, install higher MHz speed ram (PC3-14900) and 2x extra 204pin ram sticks to have PC3-14900 8GB of ram.
After all this lol this V3-571G is working excellently, with its pretty high capacity processor Intel i7-3610QM / 4 core / 8 threads and with its 8GB PC3-14900 ram, GeForce GT 640M graphics and its SSD hard drive, this laptop works exceptionally well with older games, as its GeForce GT640M can't handle the modern games of today. Hope this gives you some sort of an idea about the V3-571G as in todays market and price, its a very cheap laptop for handling the majority of internet browsing, quite adequately, word processing and some old 6years old games, that's about it!
OK Laptop – The Acer Aspire V3-572 is a laptop with average-powered performance and the acceptable price range. I bought this laptop because of the Intel Core i7 processor. But soon realized that the i7 processor was a bit slower during start up when compared to my previous Toshiba satellite with i5 processor. Acer laptop is sturdy and found it useful when… Read more
using excel spreadsheet due to the width.
The keypad was not bad.
I found the laptop a bit over weight, but maybe that contributes to the sturdy nature of the laptop.
Overall, was satisfied with the performance of the laptop but not too fancy.
May not go for the same given better options in the market for the same price.
Fantastic little laptop (Aspire V3-372-744Q) – Great features: IPS screen (black looks black), lightweight (<2kg), SSD (silent & quick to turn on), performs decently (sometimes it's a bit slow), affordable (<$1100), good battery life (7-8 hours for text editing) Just OK: HD 520 graphics are a bit on the light side for gaming Not so good: - average keyboard (very short key travel, no… Read more
dedicated Home or End keys)
- only one external monitor port (HDMI)
- Windows 10 sucks (turning off Cortana breaks the search, boring flat theme with juvenile bright colours)
I highly recommend this laptop to people planning to travel a lot. The weight of the laptop is the biggest reason to go for it. I wouldn't recommend a screen any smaller than 13", however.
Great value for money – I wanted to get a decent laptop for a reasonable price. This had a good graphics card, good screen, ok RAM, and I swapped over its old drive for an SSD (quite hard to work on - far too complex to replace a hard drive, by the way). Am loving the graphics, has been solid as a rock and quiet, used daily and reliable so far a year in. Not too much… Read more
bloatware to get rid of at the start too.
It's my first Acer and I'm impressed. Streets ahead of the noisy old Sony Vaio it replaced. Will definitely check out Acer first next time around.
The best laptop for its price! – I have V3 for 2 years with i3 processor. I wonder why do others write a negative feedback? What do you expect for money you pay? It is working perfectly! No issues, Cooling system could be better, but even with this, standard i3 processor does great! It's a bit heavy for everyday use. WiFi signal strength is ok, I never had issues in public places. Bluetooth works perfect with my headphone! Great product recommended!
Acer poor quality notebooks – I have been using ACER laptops over 15 years, different models. my last model was bought from Goodguys Chadstone, and within a few months started giving problems. It was bought with an extended warranty from Goodguys with almost 200 dollars additional charges. The touch pad is not working, only one USB on the left side will work, other two not… Read more
working even after several times changing the power settings. The hinge flap also broken on side, not shutting down properly.
Called up Goodguys concierge, has been pushing me around between Acer and themselves, asking various questions etc. Eventually Acer agreed to repair this, wants me to send to their service centre in Sydney.
Worst thing is they will erase all data and programs on the computer and set it to Factory settings.
Tired of arguing with them.
In future will not be buying ACER again, will only buy if there is service in Melbourne, where I can take it and get this serviced.
They should be taking a back up and restoring data, rather than deleting all of it. Both Goodguys and Acer did not specify this when I bought the laptop and very disappointed with the service and product quality.
Great value for money – Admittedly, the 1st one died, but I think the Operating System was just corrupt, & could have been repaired. However, I did not have a chance to create a 16GB recovery.l JB Hifi swapped it over, and the current unit is working very well. I don't really use the touchscreen, but the unit is well set out, great display, & the battery life is great.… Read more
It is very quiet, light & at this stage doesn't appear to get hot.
My only worry is if there is any spillage, the keyboard would be very difficult to replace(like a number of other units).
Good until I got it fixed – I have had my laptop for 2 years now and the first year was great but the screen when a little of with colour so I got it fixed. Coming back I was so happy to have it back so I started to use it again. I noticed the fan had gotten a lot louder then it was originally. Then after some use and charging just above the power a little lump appeared. I… Read more
didn't take much notic until around a week later the charger would only charge at a certain angle. Then a small hole appeared in the lump and then the charge started to bearly work. Using a different charger I had identified that the socket the charger goes in was a little loose so I unschooled my laptop and reagranged it and it worked good as new. But it came loose again and now has effected the battery reducing its life and I am now stuck with it like this. Never overcharged it and never let it get hotter than slightly warm so something happened in repairs. I still love the laptop it's just harder to use.
Nice but – This has been a frustrating machine to set up correctly. Mostly due to the awful Windows 8, but also let down by some poor tech support. The model I bought came with only 1 hard drive, and a slow one at that. Not a problem I thought as I had added an SSD and larger, faster drive to my old Acer Travelmate 7720g. I wanted to add a second drive… Read more
to this new machine. However a metal bracket is required to install the second drive. The caddy is not installed in the machine to start with. Opening the machine to add the second drive voids the warranty. When I contacted Acer Tech support about this and where I could obtain the drive caddy from all they could respond with is an asinine comment that removing the "warranty void if removed sticker" would void the warranty. Duh...you think! They didn't have the chops to suggest where I could take the machine to have the extra drive added under warranty. Didn't answer my other question regarding were I could obtain the bracket.
The muggins then sent me an email link to a survey on their tech support, clicking it sent you to a webpage that said the survey had closed. So I guess they didn't want to know what I thought...so why send the email. Somebody at Acer isn't doing their job properly!
Despite this and the appalling Win8 which seemed to be incompatible with a number of programs that ran fine in Win7 the machine is commensurate with the price. The screen is bright, clear and sharp...a pleasure to work with actually. Despite some very demanding 3D modelling tasks the machine runs much colder and quieter than my old laptop. It is generally very quick for even the demanding 3D solid modelling tasks I use it for, though could be quite a bit quicker with the option MSATA SSD or even a 7200rpm hard drive.
Build quality is a bit dubious. Doesn't have the solid feel of the HP's. The Screen is quite flexible, hinges seem to be more robust than the bad things in the 7720G...which broke twice. Plastic faux brushed metal finish feels and looks cheap.
Caps Lock and Num Lock lack any form of indicator...not even an onscreen notification. Keyboard has a nice, positive action.
4 USB ports, two USB 3, one with power when off for charging is handy for charging mobiles.
If your interested in performance then this machine has the goods. Fast graphics card, quick processor and plenty of scope to upgrade the hard drives for increased performance.
Just take a bit of care closing the screen/lid...and be aware of some dodgy tech support if you have to rely on it. If your handy with a screw driver and willing to risk it, ditch the standard drive for a 7200rpm drive, or add a SSD in the second bay if you can locate a drive bracket, or the MSATA SSD. Never worked properly - struggled to get a refund – The Acer computer was purchased from the Acer Store by phone call with an Acer sales rep. The computer arrived by courier on 18th September 2013. The computer frequently froze, displaying artefacts and oscillations on the screen, requiring a hard re-start with the power button. Sometimes the problem would occur a few seconds after booting up,… Read more
other times the computer would run for hours without a problem and then randomly freeze. It was not related to any particular software running, as it could happen while running a web browser, or it could happen while in the Windows Start Menu, or in any other software. It could happen while the computer was plugged into an external monitor, and it could happen when the computer was not plugged into an external monitor. It was totally random.
On 8th October, arrangements were made with Acer Support for the return of the faulty computer via Australia Post.
On 18th October, the computer was returned to me by courier
The Acer Service Report showed that the Acer Repair Team had identified the following:
“FAIL TO SETUP OS.”
The Acer Service Report also showed that they had performed the following actions:
“SOFTWARE FIX.”
I thought that this was an odd assessment, when it seemed to me that the sort of problems we were having with the computer were more likely to be hardware faults rather than software.
I proceeded to set up Windows 8 and install some software.
The previous problem continued, except that instead of the computer randomly freezing with oscillation and artefacts on the screen, this time the computer would randomly re-start, without warning.
The computer has never worked correctly, from the time it was first delivered, and from when it was delivered again after Acer supposedly repaired it.
On 22nd October 2013 the computer was returned to Acer a second time, but this time I was demanding a full refund as I had already given them a chance to repair the computer.
On 5th November when I had heard nothing from Acer, I phoned them only to be told that the computer was currently being repaired and they were waiting for a part. But they didn't phone to tell me, I had to phone them to find that out.
I asked if they had read my letter which accompanied the computer demanding a refund.
After being put on hold for a while, I was then told that a case manager would be in touch with me within 24 hours to discuss my refund.
As I write this, it is now 40 hours since I was told that they would contact me within 24 hours, and so I had to phone Acer myself to find out what was going on.
Eventually, after a 20 minute phone call, somebody told me that the managers were currently discussing my case (and other cases) and a report would be issued within 30 minutes.
45 minutes later, the case worked phoned to tell me that my refund was approved, but I would have to wait until tomorrow to hear from a Sales Manager to make the refund actually happen.
So the refund has been promised but I haven't seen any money yet.
So far, they have my money, and they've had my computer since 25th October.
The last four computers I've bought have been Acer - but never again. Very fast boot time because of combination of Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM, Windows 8 and Solid State Drive (SSD). Computer was faulty from the moment we purchased it. It then failed to work correctly after Acer had supposedly repaired it. Not fit for the purpose.
Ok but quirky keyboard and had hard drive issues within 9 months – Purchased this 9 months ago and seemed to be ok then just malfunctioned and stopped working. It was still under warranty and it has been repaired so will see how long it lasts now. Keyboard design is not very good it is very touchy to the point that the cursor moves over the screen constantly when typing. I thought it was just me that was… Read more
