Acer KA220HQ
MPN: KA220HQ6 reviews
Worst monitor I've ever used – Absolutely woeful contrast, colour and definition. If you get one for free - throw it away and go and pay for a half decent monitor. Since I've started working from home a little more I've decided no more eye punishment and I'm going to take my own advice and throw these away. I have two monitors so it's twice as bad!! How Acer could ever release such a piece of rubbish is beyond me. Show details
I paid $5 and got my money's worth – I picked this monitor up second hand only a few months old for $5. After switching it on, the viewing angle makes it unusable. It's not just that you have to keep your head straight on to see the image; Even if you look straight on, different parts of the screen have different brightness levels. When standing across the room if you look at… Read more
the screen at exactly the right angle the picture looks the same. I think I'm going to have to give this away if anyone will take it, because it's not usable.
Acer, please stop making these.
Really wish I read these reviews – Everything stated in the other reviews is true. Sub-par colour, text disappearing from the bottom of the screen due to the viewing angle, really awful stuff. The overall glare is hurtful to the eyes and is impossible to rectify no matter how combinations of contrast and brightness are being used. Taking this one back to the shop tomorrow morning. Edit - Quick addendum, Harvey Norman were great in their customer service, giving me a full refund. Show details
Worst monitor I've used – This monitor isn't great. In fact, it's awful. The viewing angle is very poor, the clarity of text is awful and the colour reproduction is shocking. Avoid at all costs! Show details
Taking it back – This monitor is awful. The variation in contrast and colour with the slightest change in viewing angle is ridiculous and seems like very old LCD technology. The problem is exacerbated via the lack of height adjustment. Even moving your head slightly up and down the screen changes the colour intensity dramatically, so its hopeless for any home… Read more
photo or graphics work. Hard to see why Acer even put this one on the market, as it really drags their name down.
Avoid! Sub $100 display but viewing angle reminds me of laptop screens from the late 90s! – Even at sub $100 inc gst in my opinion this monitor should be avoided. I purchased it as it was the cheapest monitor I could buy in store and I needed a test monitor so I could see what was going on on my Linux server which has an HDMI out. For this purpose it functions but it is not a good monitor and certainly not worth $98! The main issue… Read more
is viewing angle. Think 1990s, early 2000s laptop screen! I thought tft manufactures fixed these issues over 15 years ago!
The good (Scraping around here!)
=======
- It is fine as a terminal screen for my hobby (text based interface!) and was the cheapest monitor in store.
- The plastic finish looks okay as these things go.
- It has an HDMI port which I needed (Cable not included)
The bad
======
- The stand does not allow height adjustment. (A big problem given the viewing angle issue)
- The viewing angle horizontally is bad and darker images fade if even slightly off centre.
- The vertical viewing is worse. Unless your eyeline is directly in line with the top bezel the screen has noticeable colour distortions. This is worse close up (Within a meter of the screen).
- The only cable not present was an HDMI cable which coincidentally was the one I needed. I would rather they hadn't included any monitor cables, made it clear on the box so I didn't have to pay for a VGA and DVI cable that I will never use!
- The black is not really very black even when sat in an optimal position.
- I believe the example pictures of this monitor on the Acer website must have been photo-shopped as the image on my display degrades significantly at the angles shown in the example pictures!
There are other problems with this monitor but if you are still planning on buying one then you probably haven't bothered to read this far so I will stop. If they were to drop the price to sub $50 then I would possibly give it another star.
