Acer Spin 1

Terrible quality – The trackpad buttons stopped working, the screen started falling off and it bluescreened quite a few times out of nowhere. I understand it's a budget laptop, but it shouldn't be physically falling apart. Show details
don't waste your money – My Acer spin was six months old when the casing broke on the left hand side. I managed to get a warranty repair, but the same thing happened again six months later. It has been consigned to rubbish. Obviously the casing is too weak and unable to cope with the stress of being opened and closed. Show details
Good laptop ... horrible construction! – I've now had my Acer Spin for 2 1/2 yrs now and it has been a trusty laptop and great for on the go. All in all the laptop is good however started having issues just after 1 1/2yr (out of warranty) with the construction of the hinges/screen. I first started noticing the hinges started moving side-to-side when opening and closing the screen, then… Read more
there started to be a gap where the screen meets the back of the laptop where it started to separate. Over time the gap got bigger and bigger and then parts of the screen started breaking off. Now the screen has come completely detached from the hinges that link the screen to the keyboard. Although it is still useable in a "tablet" form I am now in need of a new laptop. I think Acer needs to have a look at their hinge designs ... won't be buying another Acer laptop!
terrible – it falls apart slowly, i would recommend get something better, screws fall out and the hinges keep snapping, so far i have got fixed for free, but still, get something better Show details
Awful – I’m on my 2nd one of these in the year I’ve unfortunately had to put up with this laptop. First few months with the first one were a breeze, played some sims 2 on it, did my schoolwork fine, watched some TV on it too. The display is actually really nice, which is a shame as it’s on this heap of junk. But recently, my first ones hinge snapped. I… Read more
got a replacement, and it’s got less storage. 64 lovely gigabytes, which is on trend with the y2k stuff with pink razrs and brats dolls! SSDs are slow when almost full, and it’s not pleasant. I’ve been longing for a fancy MacBook now, like sappho and girls (well I do want a girl too) due to this embarrassingly awful laptop.
Not very strong, hasn't lasted long – I've had my laptop for just over a year i think and the hinges have snapped. You would expect a convertible laptop to function just as that, without breaking. It is now held together with tape and can only be used as a laptop. The computer itself has been great, love the size etc. The battery also now doesn't hold a charge so has to be plugged in. Pretty disappointed overall and would not buy a convertible laptop again.
Great value for money – Great value for money under $500. Ideal for students who does lots of online activities these days. WIN 10 Pre-loaded. One downside found a crack on one of the hinges when we opened the packaging not sure issue with QC or manufacture defect. Replacement has been approved through retailer and waiting. Memory storage eMMC way better than HDD but not fast as SSD. 12 months Office 365 subscription. Can be used as a tablet or PC. Show details
Near perfect – Compact, lightweight, simple, and even a little bit of fun when folding it. The case is made of plastic but because it has a lovely texture and is very lightweight, its actually very pleasant to hold. Doesn't feel flimsy. Very portable. The hinge is solid and stiff enough to hold its position at any angle. Keyboard is smaller than most laptops… Read more
so it takes a while to get used to it. Keys are a little loud and don't have the best 'spring' feel. Trackpad works better than expected and is very usable. There are 2 USB ports so an extra keyboard/mouse is easy to add when doing some serious typing.
Touchscreen is solid and easy to use. It responds well, very precise, and very sensitive to most types of touch including using the back of a finger to scroll. Not the same feel as a tablet or phone (ipad etc).
Sound is very tinny and average. Comes with a headphone port and USB ports if headphones are preferred. Microphone struggles to pick up your voice when using Cortana/voice dictation in tent or tablet shape.
Storage is a base 64gb drive and after the Windows installation it leaves aprox 20gb. Since it has a micro SD card slot, extra storage is easily added.
Battery seems to be quite good and offers 6-10 hours depending on what you are doing. Heavy use of WiFi, Bluetooth or network via USB can be draining on the battery but it isn't sudden or detrimental to use. Battery takes a while to recharge after being completely drained.
Comes with Windows S mode as default. It can be changed to a standard version of windows if preferred (cannot be changed back). You can choose to switch to a 'tablet mode' when folding the keyboard back if you still want the tablet experience some of the time.
Performance so far is good for standard browsing, office (free 1 year sub), youtube, itunes, netflix, email, syncing phone, and viewing photos and video's. Can be a little fussy with USB ports when folding or unfolding it.
Personally I bought it as an extra browsing and utility computer to help take the load off my gaming and photoshop computer. Its great for taking my work to finish in bed, watch movies away from the computer, backup my phone, and as a quick way to view my network security cameras from anywhere in the house. So far it has preformed all of these tasks with no trouble.
NOTE: 4 stars instead of 5 due to lack of pen included. All reviews, unboxings and majority of specs on the internet showed a pen as a feature. Australia doesn't get the pen included and ordering one as an extra $100 from outside of the country. I may have considered other brands more (Dell, Microsoft, Lenovo) if I had known this before opening my purchase.
Absolute garbage – I've had this laptop for 2.5 months and in the past week I've had to reset it twice because Windows stops loading properly. I've only used it to watch YouTube and Netflix and haven't even used any of its other features, nor have I installed any other programs or apps. Never again with Acer. Show details
Update on Acer spin 1 – Went to JB HI FI to have the Acer computer looked bc the keyboard was not working. You would press for a number 8 and get something else. Good news! It is fixed! 5 minutes with the computer man and it was done. Show details
Not too bad – I bought this computer after my trusty old one finally died. It is a touch slow but it does the job I need it for. I would recommend this product for a student or someone who just wants to use it for Facebook ect. Show details
Acer Spin 1 11.6 SP111-33-C7RJ excellent value for money – I just bought one of these smaller 2in1 laptops and am very happy with the performance so far and a price of just $320.00. The Celeron processor and internet/wifi speeds operate efficiently and with very little hesitation. I downloaded MS Office 2016 Home and Student for general home use and study (I didn't want the free 1 year trial MS office… Read more
included) and opening and editing documents in Word and Excel is as fast if not faster than my i5 Quadcore desktop PC. I played a recorded webinar on it and there was no stopping or glitching. The touchscreen and touchpad operate smoothly and are very responsive. Overall I would definately suggest you consider this over the much more expensive bigger brand products (depending on what you use it for).
Loving it! Just wanted something easy to type and watch youtube – I've wanted just an easy laptop for ages, and being on special I couldn't resist. Way more impressed with this than ever expected. It was never going to be a laptop replacement with these specs; but for basic typing, internet, watching netflix etc it is just fantastic. Light, multiple ways to stand it and even flips fully back on itself to be a… Read more
tablet only. The touchscreen makes it even easier to use.
Only downsides are I wish one could avoid Win 10 and the updates, esp given it's small memory size. And, I do wish it had come with a pen/stylus.
A toy in tools clothing – Bought this to replace my Dell which was having issues, ( slow running etc ). The Acer Spin has little to offer to start with and goes down hill from there. Slow to start, programs that close without warning, anti virus windows that open endlessly, It is basically a digital sketchpad masquerading as a work tool. The most annoying thing I have ever bought, I've given to the kids to use for drawing. A total disappointment.
