requirements, oh, and I can't forget the smooth touchscreen and many useful ports. I use this laptop every day for school (6hrs) and after school (1.5 hrs), and it has definitely slowed down over time, but has remained completely usable. I am continuing to use this laptop even while writing this, and it performs perfectly while I'm working and completing assignments. One thing that has surprised me, is the fact that this laptop barely heats up except for when I used to play Fortnite. After 3 years, the battery has degraded slightly and I do need to charge it at the end of every day but this is after school and once I've finished my work so it's perfectly fine. If you wanted to know, the average battery life after 3 years from 100% and constant use with schoolwork and typing is around 4 hours. If I play a game such as Minecraft, the battery life will drop to about 2 - 3 hours. One thing I had a problem with was gaming. I mean this laptop wasn't built for it anyway so that's fine but I don't recommend this if you are a gamer. I have played War thunder with decently high graphics and around a smoothish 40 fps, but I played Fortnite for a few months and this laptop definitely didn't like that as the overall performance with Fortnite included a smooth 25 fps, pretty low graphics, and multiple crashes while playing. Minecraft Edu is another game I have experienced on this laptop and max render distance, max graphics, and other high settings have been effortlessly tackled by this laptop and provided me with smooth perhaps around 50 frames and very little lag. I have had almost no other problems except while playing Fortnite, and am continuing to use this laptop for both home and school. The one thing I'd change about this laptop would be the the fact that the keyboard backing thing is made of a plastic, but even this is helpful as it keeps the laptop from heating up because plastic won't conduct heat well so yeah. I will add to his comment every future problem I have, and recommend this laptop to you if require a low price laptop or you go to school or University and need to use it daily.
Died after 14 months – Working fine then died after 14 months, just won't turn on. 2 months after 1 year warranty. Ridiculous and unacceptable to have a lifetime and warranty of only a year. [Content Removed] Acer. Show details
Cheap but does ok for the price – I have had this Acer Spin 3 since mid 2019, it has been on my desk at home plugged into a docking station used for several hours daily, and I rarely use it away from home. happy for the money and will gladly buy another acer when it comes time to replace this one. At this price, they are almost disposable when compared to the more expensive (but not necessarily better) known brands
Battery as bad as hell – I charge my laptop overnight don't open it till I get to school and it goes all the way down to %1 in 0 min and gets as hot as an oven. it could catch fire and be a real hazard, please don't by any other laptop is better than this piece of crap. Show details
Right hinge under screen just fell to bits – I purchased this ACER Spin 3 in 2019 around $800. JB Hi Fi. The laptop has been left open most of this time and on a desk. lines in the area where the hinge broke. NOT a fan now of ACER and I see it is a common problem. A laptop is generally a mobile device and hence you shut the screen down to make it mobile. Not much use if the device wont stay together when shut... and the warranty is worth zip.
Terrible design, failed after 2 years light use – The screen has come apart around one of the hinges. This was a very low use laptop. I see from googling that this is a common problem. I will never buy an Acer again. Show details
Broken hinges and cracking plastic – The hinges went first followed by the plastic around the hinges. Two years old. Now held together by duct tape and prayer. The ports are getting hard to access eg power input due to the distortion in the frame. Has been treated kindly during its short life. My last Acer. Show details
AVOID AT ALL COST – This is our second Acer Spin 3 in the space of 18 months. Second time the hinge has broken rendering the laptop useless. Technical support seems to be based overseas. and no update since. Rang this morning to be told they are waiting on parts with no estimated date for completion. Son needs the laptop for school starting next week.
I will never buy an Acer product again. Products are below quality and customer service is second rate.
Worked ok until hinge broke – This laptop worked ok for about 6 months of very light use. I have the second revision (model number: SP314-52) It was only used a couple of days a week and did not get opened and closed every time, may ones or twice every 2 weeks. Even still, the hinge seems to have become a problem and when opening the laptop the plastic casing of the screen gets pulled apart. I will be attempting to take it back for a refund.
