Burnt a hole in my dogs skin! – After a couple of days my dog was acting strangely! Scratching and rubbing all over the furniture. I thought it was the fleas dying! Turns out he had a huge burn mark on his back where I had applied the Advantix! Poor baby is in such pain. Show details
Does not prevent fleas – This product seemed to keep fleas away for about a year but in the last 3 months my dog has been infested with fleas. It appears to have no effect at all. I followed the instructions exactly but to no avail. I would not buy again.
Poison – My happy and healthy 20 lbs 8 y.o. Havanese have never had issues with any preventative meds until I put this poison on him. Three day later, he is still having seizures, respiratory issues, fever, and depression. In the past three days, we spent one night in the emergency room and today at his regular vet. Stay away from Bayer, Merck, and other… Read more
merchants of death, and buy a good tick collar or chewable alternative instead. And if they ever tell you it is harmless to apply carcinogenic neurotoxins, ask them to demonstrate that point by applying them on their children first.

Shih T'zu having a horrible reaction – I bought Advantix on Friday and administered it on my 11 year old Shih T'zu. Throughout the evening and night he was digging at his backside and very itchy, rolling over trying to scratch uncontrollably. He is also twitching and jumps up from his sleep and can't seem to settle. This has been day 3 and the same thing this morning, very itchy,… Read more
biting at his backside and very jerky. I called the vet and was told to watch him. I would never use this product again and I hope this settles down very soon. We have used other products with no problems.
Shih T'zus BEWARE – Put this crap on my poor wee Shih T'zu. Took him for a walk less than an hour later. After 5 minutes he sat down which he Never does on a walk. Coaxed him back up for 100 ft + he did the same thing. 3rd time he lay right down + wouldn't get up. I had to carry him home. He was very lethargic. I bathed + scrubbed him well + rinsed with lots of… Read more
water. Now he is suffering tremors. Most reports I have read that state these symptoms all mention Shih T'zus. Willy's symptoms are: lethargy, weakness in back legs, full body tremors. Hopefully he will eat + drink tomoro.
Beloved princess – I have been using Advantix for over the past 4 years with much success. It worked well for the past 4 year's. It wasn't until this year where my beloved pet princess contracted Lyme disease it was uncurable I had to put her down. My heart is broken I applied this medication Faithfully every month. Did not work for fleas or ticks buyer beware
Seizure – My 2 year old shihtzu male rubbed himself all over everything and suffered a seizure within half an hour of applying this product.
Still have fleas – I bought a 6 pack box for my Maltese because I did my research and was pleased to know we wouldn't have to worry, boy was I wrong my poor little guy has had fleas the last 2 months very disappointed, won't be buying this again ... The season isn't even over and I have to buy another brand and spend more money i don't have..
Almost killed my dog!! – My dog almost died the other day from Advantix I don't know why I have used Advantix through the years but this time it was horrible.
Dangerous reaction – Within 24 hours of application, our otherwise healthy happy 13 week shitzu x Maltese developed muscle spasms, involuntary huge twitch movements :(. Was prescribed by vet who then suggested washing it off and cease using. Pup hasn't recovered yet, vet suggested bad reaction to her nervous system.
Muscle Spasms! Awful Product! – I'm not saying this will be the same for all small dogs but my Yorkie (who is 12 pounds) had a TERRIBLE reaction to this medication. His whole body was twitching and he was having what the vet described as muscle spasms or like "pins and needles" all over his body for about 9 days after application. We thought it may be small seizures and… Read more
effecting his neurological system. Thankfully we noticed the spasms about 1 day after application so we were able to wash it off him and hopefully minimize any further potential side effects. I wish I had done my research before applying this as I've now read many many bad reviews of this medication for small dogs. I used the correct weight for my dog but the medication was still too strong for him. My research would have saved me lots of money in multiple trips to the vet and pain for my little guy : (
Been using for 6 years with success – We have a 6 y o toy poodle& never seen a tick or flea on her .It seems some dogs are sensitive to the product just like I read about other brands. Easy to apply & yes it's a chemical, but we want to kill the fleas, not put water on them.

This product shoud not be allowe on the market – My miniature poodle became listless and did not want eat or drink after using Advantix and became very unwell. Vet said to bath her immediately and she then showed some improvement. A full blood history was done and I am still waiting on the results to see if any damage has been done to her vital organs. My vet does not have this product on their shelves which I found more than interesting.
Waste of money – Product is easy to administer, which was seriously the only good thing about it. It did not work. I bought a 3 month supply, for June July and August from the vet. Kept it stored at proper temp. And still have had to bring my dog back to the vet several times to have ticks removed that burrowed too deep for me to get. And my dogs skin is extremely dry from it as well.
Warning – Be very careful using Advantix on your dogs. It includes an ingredient called permethrin that can give your dog an extremely severe reaction called Paresthesia. Unfortunately my 9 month Pomeranian had such a bad reaction and at one point I didn't think he would survive. 20 minutes after I applied the product he was extremely irritable, agitated… Read more
and restless. He could not stop scratching and was crying constantly day and night for three days as if he was in so much pain. He had no appetite, was sleep deprived and exhibited an abnormal change in behaviour and character. He was a completely different dog. After 5 baths, two vet checks, injections, antihistamines and three restless nights the reaction is slowly beginning to subside. My experience with Advantix was a nightmare and I wish they had warned me of this side effect on the pamplet. I am not trying to put Advantix down but I just want to inform people about the possible reaction (Paresthesia) which may occur that Bayer fail to mention on the product. I would hate to see any dog go through what my poor baby had to go through the last few days. Thank god he is okay now. If you know your dog is sensitive and intolerant to permethrin maybe use Advocate instead which does not include the permethrin.
Dont put on maltese puppy – 9 month old maltese neutered male pup. Terrible reaction washed him in dawn 3 times coated him in vitamin e oil. 30 hrs after application still having fits of what vet calls pins and needle feeling. Never again.
red itchy skin – Small Maltese 6 yrs old has had 18 months at vets often, just lies from them she had even developed staph on her skin, advantix is what I believe is the culprit she has been bloody miserable, we will find a different product.
Don't use on small white dogs – My poor little Bischon has had a terrible 3 days since I applied the Advantix.. She was frantic running around hiding under pillows, scratching herself and panting terribly. We we're away on holiday otherwise I would have taken her to my Vet.. We covered her with cold cloths to help stop the heavy panting as she was so overheated.. We never slept… Read more
for the 3 nites she was very agitated, shaking her head where we had applied the Advantix.
It is now the 4th day, she is still shaking her head but the extreme panting has stopped she has developed a small sore where she has been constantly scratching herself.
I rang the emergency help line and it was explained it would have been like sunburn and the bad reaction can last between 2-72 hours..
my poor dog is miserable! – I have a 16 year old shihtzu who has a flea allergy, i have always used Advantix that i buy at my vets office. i bought a six month supply and it came with a free tube. I just applied the fourth month dose and it is not working!!! he is covered with fleas and flea eggs!! I can't afford to take him back in and he is too old to just keep applying… Read more
all kinds of different stuff to him to try to kill the fleas!!! I don't know what to do!! my poor Maxwell is just MISERABLE!!!!!
Horrible & Dangerous – I have tried using this on my two dogs, the smaller miniature Maltese Chitzu has had sever reactions to this product the two times I have used it. Trembling, lethargic, scratching. The larger Kelpie cross has no reaction luckily. Both dogs are tick infested. The Kelpie we have been applying every two weeks and it still does not work. Have to apply weekly and he still has ticks. Will never use this product again. What a waste of money.
skin irritation – I put this product on my Maltese Shih Tzu and within 15 minutes he was irritated and is still to this day. Thank heavens I only put it on him once and never again. Don't use this product - it isn't any good and my dog now has a skin rash that I am having trouble getting rid of. I will never buy this product again and I will warn anybody not to… Read more
use it.
I wish I had read these reviews before buying it and I did get it from a vet.
Take your product of the shelves - it is dangerous.

Terrible product – Applied product to toy poodle. He became very agitated, restless, panting, and vocalizing. Bathed the dog with dawn dish soap as recommended by Bayer. No improvement. Dosed the dog with Benadryl. He was miserable the entire night. Next day bathed him again. Continued Benadryl and took him to vet. They prescribed Valium to calm him and topical vitamin e. 48 hours later gradual improvement
Terrible – Used this product on my puppy and he was still covered in fleas. Extremely disappointed considering the price of the product.
Shocking Side effects on Our Poodles – We have two Toy Poodles and applied the correct dose of Advantix to them 4 days ago - they have not been the same since !! They have been lethargic, itching, shaking spasms, unusual behavior and agitated. Bayers only warning is on the info. sheet in the packet "On rare occasions reactions on dogs (may include these reactions) these signs are… Read more
normally transient".
Our dogs are still SUFFERING after 4 days - How long is transient MR BAYER. ? Put a warning on the outside of the packet please !
NEVER AGAIN !!
Even works if you find paralysis ticks already on dog – Our Maltese X picked up 2 paralysis ticks in the afternoon. By morning showing signs of mild paralysis. Removed ticks then went to vet who advised applying Advantix straight away. This ensured that any remainig ticks were killed. Advised to monitor dog and keep as quiet as possible. Much cheaper to buy online. Vet recomendation Too Expensive. The cost to administer every two weeks is excessive and many owners can't afford the price.
