ALDI Vacuum Food Sealer

Good to start with but inadequate quality – Bought this several months ago and have used several rolls of the bag plastic in this time. Worked well to start with, then the odd malfunctions started with the sealing function. After a total failure one day, I made a thorough examination of the sealing gasket and found that it was in fact two gaskets split all the way round and pressed together with little to hold them in place. No reason to make it this way, can only lead to early failure. Tried a superglue repair but only partially successful, so it is destined for the bin. I am guessing that they have had sealing problems in the past and decided to double up on the seal as a cheap cure rather than making a new deeper seal.

Sucks and Seals. Does a good job – Overall I am very happy with the product. The bags for the sealer are available in pre-made sizes or an open ended roll allowing you to make your own size bag - length wise. Interestingly I find I am using the 'self sized' bags more often than the pre-made. The only couple of detractors for mine is that 1. it could, on occasion suck a bit more air out where there might be an air pocket trapped, and, 2. very rarely, I have found a small leak where the bag has not completely sealed although it might look fine visually.

I am pleased that Aldi seem to stock replacement bags fairly frequently and I do hope they continue to do so. My machine is probably going on to a year old now and thankfully no issues have surfaced on my unit.

2022 model: LOVE IT! I should have bought one ages ago – Update: having read some of the negative reviews here, I think there is a lot of user error with this device. Some tips:

Cut a bit more roll length than you think you’ll need. That will help get a wrinkle-free seam and ensure the seal is vacuum tight.

If you use the sealer on a bench top, use a chopping board on top to press down on the top of your package and get nice even flat blocks which are stackable for storage. See photo.

If you are sealing things already in plastic packaging, poke a couple of tiny holes in the original packaging, this will help you get the most air out. For some fun, try this on two minute noodles :)

If it seems to be sucking for ages and not sealing, hit cancel and straighten the bag out. Go again.

If you are worried your seal has a wrinkle, and might leak over time, you can do a backup seal using just the seal function without the vacuum.

You can use the seal function twice in succession on the same spot to really weld the plastic together.

I am super happy, this will come in very handy for camping trips and storage.

earlier than expected so off to Aldis we went. They had plenty in stock and plenty of extra rolls too. Stocked up we headed home to try out our new toy. (No rolls are actually included with it so make sure you grab a box or 2 of rolls). Opening the box the machine was wrapped in a plastic bag with some extra cardboard in the box holding it in place. Minor thing with the plastic but we should all be doing our bit. A simple quick guide was attached to the machine itself with a more comprehensive instruction and warranty card inside the box. I found the quick guide sufficient to get me on my way. I love the handy roll holder and cutter inside the machine, very easy to use. Once plugged in and turned on I was ready to begin! I cut my first bag from the roll - of course I made it too big for the first one (I was bound to make it too big or too small of course) but that wasn't a problem. After sealing the bottom I placed my meat inside then vacuum sealed the other end. My first attempt wasn't really working so good and I was starting to think uh-oh, I've got the dud! However upon a little investigating and reading the quick guide a little more carefully I realised I hadn't closed the lid properly. You have to push down quite hard on the corners until you hear and feel them click in. Then I started the vacuum seal again and it instantly worked perfectly. Push the 2 release buttons once it's finished and voile! 1 perfectly vacuum sealed bag of meat ready for the freezer. Overall I used one whole roll for approx 14kgs of meat. I had to cut one more bag from a second roll but I know I made the first few bags a bit bigger than required so I easily could have bagged the whole lot with the one roll. Overall I am very happy with the purchase. Works exactly as it is supposed to, very easy to use and a great price to match. Straight off the bat I give it 5 stars. This sealer is a joke – After using the previous model for more than 2 years and having a very positive opinion about it, I decided to buy a new one. lid. In distinction to the old device, it is much heavier than the bottom. Because of that, each time you open the top part you have to hold the bottom one. If you do not do it, it will turn over creating a mess. Besides the inconvenience in use, it does not work properly. When first time I used it in Vacuum+Seal mode exactly the same way as with the old sealer, the pump did not stop working and the film was not sealed. I had to read the manual thoroughly and found that approximately 8 cm of film needed to be left above the food. It is a waste of film but I followed this instruction and was able to seal a couple of bags. Next day I was not able to seal any single one despite the fact that I tried various lengths and widths. Now I am packing this device to return it to the shop. I am pretty sure that this model has no chance to become popular.

good while it works properly – worked well for about 20 seals them stopped auto heat sealing as vacuum seemed to not work completely therefore the heat seal doesn't turn on...still works to some degree with manual heat seat but I will be returning for a replacement... a gift for a friend. That has an even better design, but I resisted the temptation to upgrade.

Frankly, I wouldn't be without mine and I wish I'd known about them years earlier. For someone who hates food waste, they're just terrific, but you MUST mark the bags with date and contents. You may think you'll remember, but you won't. No more freezer burn and no food waste; if you don't want it, your pet might!

Freeze bread/crumpets in portion sizes and you'll always have fresh on hand. Just remember to use some go-between plastic and don't suck the bejeezus out of it; practise makes perfect. If you must freeze soups or stews, freeze first in a zip-lock, then transfer to a vacuum bag. This works v. well for bolognese sauces.

To address a couple of comments made - 1) bag availability is not a problem. Any brand will do; I buy mine from eBay; they're much cheaper and come in a multitude of sizes. 2) Not sealing 100%. That's usually because of a fine crinkle in the bag. Hold the seal up to the light. If you detect a fine vertical line in the seal area, just add another row of seal above or below the original seal and re-check. The two sides of the bag must be held flat for a perfect seal.

roll compartment, and a cutter and other basic features like, pulse or full vacuum. KMart has that. But it doesn't have a a cord winder underneath the machine. Heaven! THIS machine has it all. Vacuum Seal on pulse. Good for ice cream cones. And like most machines a choice for wet/dry cos I'm a nut who freezes her fish sauce. Hey! Takes me forever to plough though that stuff before it expires! I'll let you know how it goes. Cos, I've vacuumed everything at present. Including my custard powder.

It has been used to death! Use it almost every day! – I have used this machine constantly for a couple of years and only now is it starting to fail (clip on one side broke). I have really put this machine through its ‘paces’ so not really upset it has finally broken. Can’t wait to buy a new Aldi one.

Broken from new - wish I kept my receipt to return it – Purchased from Aldi - and unfortunately didn't keep my receipt - and didn't use for a couple weeks after purchase date. Clip on side doesn't connect properly when lid is closed and it won't work unless you can force it and keep it down. Disappointed as I've wasted my money on something very poorly made. No good – It worked fine but on about the 4th time I used it, I had just finished and it completely shorted out with a large bang which tripped the circuit breaker to the kitchen. I haven’t kept the receipt, so in the bin.

Aldi Ambiano vacuum sealer 2021 – Replaced a smaller Sunbeam unit that was always difficult to operate. This has separate functions for seal and for vacuum, and a combined one for after you have sealed the other end of a piece cut off the roll. It is easy, fast and very very good at what it does. disconnect because I used and replaced many heat seals as a mechanic in candy factories. But this never heated or anything else but rattle my table. ALDI has never had such a bad kitchen product. But it did have some high priced bags and I used other brands that I already have and maybe I'll have to use that bags that came with the product!!!! 5 years on.. still working perfectly – never had a vacuum sealer before purchase Feb 2015; but this appliance has worked consistently and without fault since. Found the original receipt and thought I'd give the Lumina Vac Sealer a plug. Terrific investment! Tip: bought 10x6mtr rolls of commercial grade vacuum sealing bags online for $47.00.

Aldi sealer a waste of time – Worked ok first few months but started failing after few months. Sucked out air but then lets it back in. After few years i got it out of cupboard to give it a second chance. Waste of time on moist food. Threw out.

Don't bother – Most of the time it didn't have suction. If it did have suction, it might not be enough. Sealed great though. There was just no rhyme or reason to get it to vacuum correctly. Too frustrating. Wasted my money. Threw it away and bought a different brand. Wish me luck. lol Show details

Perfect when the correct bags are used! (Dotted/textured bags) – So we bought the previous model (VFS-HK) and the vacuum didn’t work. We took it back and got the latest model with bags included. Turns out the issue was the bags we were using, not a faulty machine. Show details

Rubbish.... Don’t bother buying – Purchased from ALDI March 2020. Worked a few times at first on dry food setting. Once I switched over to moist setting it then stopped working. It tried but just kept failing and then the bag would get stuck to the heat rail at the top. Wasted heaps of bags due to all its errors as well. Show details

I could suck harder than this – Having used another brand vacuum sealer for more than 5 years I bought this for a friend. I couldn’t understand why she wasn’t happy with it until I tried it myself thinking that maybe she was using it incorrectly. What a piece of rubbish. Sealed but no suction. Awful : After one use it stopped vacuuming – I purchased the Ambiano Vacuum Food Sealer shortly before Xmas 2019. I used it once shortly after purchasing it and it was great, however I have now tried to use it for the second time and it no longer vacuums. The machine does still seal though. My only issue is the availability of the plastic to make the bags instore. I tried to buy in bulk but they never have enough or they dont have them at all. Worth looking for a name brand – This started well, sure the option of cutting your own bag size is an advantage. Length of fully operation time is less than the year warranty given. completion - well there is something wrong with the machine. Did I get a faulty product maybe. Unfortunately replacing this item from Aldi definitely won’t be on my shopping list again. Will be looking for a brand name that I am comfortable with.

would not vacuum and seal only one or the other – I purchased one of these on the weekend, I could create a seal when making a new bag, but when you use the vacuum and seal function it vacuum then lets the air back in and doesn't seal - taken it back would rather invest in a better one. Show details

Was good while it worked – I bought this because we often fill the freezer with a whole sheep etc. It worked great for the first one and then died. Wouldn't suck the air out. Not very helpful when you have 14kg of steak to bag up! Show details

Excellent – Would have given 5 stars except for the fact that there is no mention in the manual that you must close the lid quite forcibly to get it to lock. that was sorted it worked extremely well. The vacuum seal was very strong. They recommend to use the gentle setting for delicate foods and I would head that warning.
