Alienware 17

Good luck claiming warranty – Paid $3000 for brand new Alienware M17 Lasted 2months. Won't power on Company quoted me $600 to have a technician come out and look and it and bring a motherboard. Will not honour any warranty as was purchased in the US. Went to transfer of warranty on their site a week ago (they charge $170 for this) and then no transfer accepted for "existing issues" with laptop
Purchased in for $3,000.
Great powerful computer – Great powerful computer . It has been 4 years, still running without skipping a beat. Will definitely buy more alienware for my next computer. A bit pricey, but surely worth the price. Loving it. Its a bit heavy as well, but oh well, what you expect from a powerful gaming laptop. If you can afford it, buy it as it is a great and powerful computer.

1080 with studder and unplayable – I purchased the 17 R4 10 with i7 7820HK about 5 months ago for use with Oculus Rift Virtual reality CV1 head set. The System specs are well above the required min for the Rift. I was having Studder (freeze) issues while in simulation after a few hours. When I tried to use the factory Overclocking the system studder is worse. After some reasearch, I found that the motherboard seems to be the culprit. Product support has been prompt however not rectified the problem. 2 mother board changes and now waiting on the 3rd. #3 strikes for me I am afraid. Do not purchase this product until the manufacturer can come up with a fix. I will update this if the 3rd motherboard change fixes the issue.Update to my previous post. Alienware changed the Mobo for the 3 rd time and the studder has subsided. Finally I can use the factory over clocking as designed. Thx Alienware and Dell. It took some time and perseverance alas I now have a functioning as advertised killer notebook. If your 17 R4 1080 Kaby lake suffers freeze Call dell. They will fix it.

The perfect laptop – Had this 17 R3 for a year and half now.. cant really fault it in any way apart from the weight. I Fly every 2nd and 3rd week so it gets thrown around in cabin luggage, it is heavy. I have the add on graphics accelerator at home with a 980TI, which is actually to big for the GA but the lid just doesnt close all way down which is no biggie.
Everything works perfectly and gaming is great. and when I am away the 970 card is good for when I am playing while at work. it is expensive nearly 5k for everything all up. but well worth the money and moving around.
I dont think I will ever go back to the old desktop gaming machine as it takes up too much space. and I can take this anyware, just get a laptop backpack that will take it and your good to go. even the GA isnt that big and could if wanted to carry it along as well.
