AquaSphere Self Cleaning Chlorinator

faultless service for 4 years + then the dreaded add salt dilemna – I should have known that the salt hungry chlorinator was pranking me! twice in 3 weeks it asked for salt with it's yellow light. Pool shop confirmed I had too much salt...could have the 2 units tested for $55, so I cleaned the 3 terminals instead. Problem gone! Looking forward to another 4 years service! Shame it's discontinued. Show details
Terrible product. Do not buy! – Terrible product. I bought this product 4 years ago. Failed after 3 years of service. I had it repaired once. It lasted a few more months and the failed as it caught fire ! I would stay away from purchasing this chlorination. Perhaps pay a it more for a more reliable product. Show details
Cell has very short life – Cell lasted just over 2 years. Just out of warranty! Had been getting message to add salt. did so twice, when water tested was above 5500. Only appeared to be working on one cycle, all chlorine lights out. Took controller in for repair, found no fault. Told cell was problem. Took cell in and advised it was U/S as center plate worn out. Quoted… Read more
$533 for replacement cell.(Complete unit cost me less than that!) Ebay $279.
If this is the expected life of the cell manufacture should use heavier material for the center plate and extend the product life a bit more.
Aquasphere ok but – Had in 3 years been repaired once now its dead.did job real well but hoped for a longer life.il get another one because it did the job for a fair price.it was always kept in cover so i dont know what happened to it.pool shop says $800 for a decent one, $480 online
Good Value for Money – I have read all the reviews here... It is difficult to contact the manufacturer but all in all the unit has lasted 5 years and possibly older, maybe even 7 years. It has now blown a fuse and I cannot find in the manual the replacement fuse value. I only have used it during summer months and then winterise the pool so as to not be wasting… Read more · 1
electricity etc. Once a year I dip the cell in a solution of week hydrocloric acid. 1: 20 ratio. I noticed at the start of each summer I have to press the reset button and reprogram it to get it working. Not a huge issue. It always produced a ton of chlorine for my 50,000 litre pool. I always forget ratio of salt concentration (btw 4,000ppm @ 27 deg according to the manual.) When I opened up the electronics today the fuse is blown and there is corrosion on the capacitor and a eprom for some reason? The cell housing has cracked around the terminals but before reading these reviews I thought it was my sons basketball that did the damage. I put a shelf of wood above it to protect it. Who knows. If the fuse does not fix the problem I will be buying another one. This time however I will be running a bead of silicone along the top to stop water coming down the back. Inside it was quite dirty but there are vents for heat dissapation I read here somewhere. My model does not have these but still crap got inside. Also there was a large chunk of dried up resin sitting down between the circut board and the front housing. I was able to get it out. Originally I thought is was a leaf and then a stick - lol. I blew out the crap with the compressor. Happy it lasted the distance. My previous LM 2 died due to being installed to close to the ground by a professional installer. Go figure. We all learn. So this one I made sure was well clear of the ground and all surrounding areas for splash back etc. Good Luck
Excellent performance over several years – I have had my AquaSphere Self Cleaning Chlorinator for several years and have had no issues with it. It runs for about three hours a day. The self cleaning operation saves me much time and effort in maintaining a chlorinator. Being able to control the level of chlorine with the output knob is a bonus.
Good when it works – After 13months the chlorinator kept saying add salt. Due to being first time pool owner I kept adding salt only to get water tested finally and finding out I had enough salt for two years!! The fault was the B circuit wasn't working and therefore was not producing anything and not self cleaning. Luckily the pool guy I had got it fixed for me under… Read more
warranty. Now 3 years later doing the same thing and now I have noticed the cell housing is cracking near the terminals. Would be very hard to recommend this product due to the constant maintenance issues. Works well when you don't have to fix it though but I wouldn't buy an aquasphere chlorinator ever again
Good Enconomical Chlorinator – After Servicing expensive units that have failed in a short time frame, I fitted one of the AquaSphere and was surprised by how efficient it was, pumping out more chorine than the many of the more expensive units it has a battery back up timer that with power supply unit functions perfectly. The cell however a disappointment with end cap… Read more
cracking around the connections in less than 12 months
this has happened to couple cells on machines I've fitted. they were replaced under warranty, but making contact
with the company was not made easy no phone number supplied. retailer didnt want was of no help.only way to contact the company via email.
I would give the unit 5 stars if the cell problem is rectified, and contacting for service made user friendly.
Rubbish – 2 and a bit years . worked ok for that time ...now dead.....rubbish....doesnt self clean.or anything else for that matter....oh well , buyer beware...
Dud – As with Christine, mine died at 24months, same problems, surfing the web results in no information and no contact phone number, maybe they are trying to stop people from returning them direct, which i believe you can do, buy at your own risk
Not very impressed – I've had my Aquasphere chlorinator for 20 months and it has just stopped working, nothing happens when I press the start/stop button although the digital display is still active. I am waiting to hear back from the shop I bought it from as the aquasphere website does not specify a warranty period rather they just say "Aqua Sphere products are… Read more
covered by the legal warranty against material and workmanship defects under normal conditions of use. Products which prove to be defective under conditions of normal and proper use will be replaced or repaired without charge. For warranty services, return the product with proof of purchase to the store from which the product was purchased." So I'm not really sure what exactly is covered and for how long.
I have found that this chlorinator constantly asks for salt. I have a 50000L pool (approximately it's hard to work out because of the kiddie ledge in the pool). I drained the pool during winter this year and have just refilled it. 230kg of salt went in along with 4kg of buffer and 2 kg of sunscreen. Within one week all the chlorine (which was at peak level after 3 days) has disappeared and the chlorinator is now asking for more salt (well it was before it stipped working) I tested the water after 1 week and it has no chlorine in it at all. Surely I'm not meant to add 200kg of salt weekly to the pool????
I thought if I bought a new chlorinator my problems with the chlorine in the pool would be solved, instead I have salt and chlorine problems....
Right now I wish I had never bought a house with a pool
Impressed (Died after 5 years) – Bought a house with a pool (though did not have a chlorinator) so put this in with sand filter and within a few days the water is absolutely perfect (crystal clear) and has stayed that way since. Rarely need to check levels. Am planning to reduce the daily use 8hrs split down to 6 and then 4 and see how it goes to save electricity. I have a 30,000… Read more
litre pool.
Having bought from a reputable pool company...obviously any issues of warranty are handled through them: hence buy from someone that can handle warranty claims - though I've never needed it. Fingers crossed it will stay good. A mate has had one for years and never a problem (he recommended).
Reading some negative comments I did ponder whether they had enough pool salt in the pool...if any.
Update chlorinator died after 5 years. Not sure if 5 years is end of life for a chlorinator) Price and performance
Great equipment with awesome customer service – I have an Aquasphere Self Cleaning Chlorinator. After 12 months of operation I noticed a problem with the salt cell and contacted customer service online. Aquasphere responded promptly, replaced the part under waranty and offered suggestions to make sure the problem doesn't happen again. This kind of customer service is rare these days. The price was great and the unit chlorinates my pool as well as my last, much more expensive, chlorinator did.

Know better, choose better.
Hopeless product – I have a brand new pool 65000 litres with a Daveys self cleaning 24grms chlorinators and it does not produce enough chlorine for my pool. I am currently running it for 12 hours a day and still not enough chlorine. Manufacturer and pool company refuse to admit there is a problem...meanwhile I keep adding chlorine! Does not produce enough chlorine
Disappointed customer – Bought one a couple of years ago from an online pool shop within months it needed to be repaired under warranty but the original supplier didn't want to know. Eventually found an obliging Zodiac dealer who sent it away for me. It's never worked properly, doesn't self clean, and was a waste of money. After sales service was awful, and I am… Read more
about to buy a replacement. I must have spent a fortune on chlorine and hydrochloride acid to clean the cell whilst I've had it.
Caveat emptor Cheap Poor performance. Cell needed constant manual cleaning
Brilliant – I have run this unit for well over a year on the hot Gold Coast with a 45,000 litre pool. I have steadily cut my pump running time down from over 8 hours, on my old unit, to just 2 hours a day. I run the unit with only 2 lights (50% capacity). It is self cleaning, saving me huge on electricity and it needs less salt. The pool water has never been… Read more · 2
as crystal clear as this. I would recommend it to anyone. great price, savings on electricity, ease of use, high output of chlorine, low salt usage
Does not come close to manufactures marketing claims – This Chlorinator may be super cheap, but there are two very good reasons for this. The claimed 25gm per hour Chlorine output is optimistic to say the least. I am running mine for 8 hours per day, full bore, in a 40,000 litre pool and only just producing enough chlorine. The manufacture claims that this chlorinator will produce enough to suit… Read more
up to a 90,000 litre pool.
If I reduce the output from full, even by a little, it does not produce anywhere near enough chlorine and algae quickly forms.
I have tested all of the chemicals and Salt levels ad all are correct. The Cell simply does not produce anywhere near the advertised quantity of Chlorine.
I should also add that I live in Melbourne Victoria, where the temperatures are far more mild than elsewhere in Australia.
Secondly, this unit does not self clean. Not even a little bit. The cell has to be cleaned manually as frequently as any non-self cleaning unit, if not more often.
This product meets none of the manufactures and sellers claims and should be avoided at all costs.
I have reported this to the manufacturer who has suggested that I post the cell back to the seller (Epools), so that they can return it to them for further investigation. (No time frame given).
In the meanwhile I wait while my pool water turns to soup.
Absolute rubbish product, poor service, useless warranty, do not buy. Cheap. Does not produce the advertised quantity of Chlorine and does not self clean.
Stands Up Well on Test – After reading the post from the last guy (just after having purchased the unit online) I was a little more than worried that I will have soup in my pool! But last week we had temperatures in the high 30s, and a pool full of teenagers, and then down came the rain (Melbourne will do that). A good test for any SWC I set the unit to superchlorinate… Read more · 1
and crossed my fingers.
The next day, the chlorine levels were fine. Inexpensive, operates as claimed Early days, but so far so good
