massively. 5 year warranty. This is the first chlorinator in 12 years i have enjoyed. The only thing that erks me is that you can get low salt readings if you are running your chlorinator at 30% power or less? if you turn it up to 50% you will get a more accurate reading. don't let that put you off

controlling pump, but of course warranty has finished. Astral washed their hand of it and told Me to seek advice from local pool shop! Apparently it’s a known issue with these chlorinators if you have an astral variable speed pump which is the one the recommended to go with this set up. Been told a replacement will be about $900-$1000. System is only 5 yrs old. The module Is kept out of the sun and is looked after. I payed top $ for this system as I thought it would be the best. I have been advised no to put the pump On a separate external timer instead of plugging it into chlorinator. Very poor show especially when this is a know problem!!

have had lots of trouble with the software, and they don't seem to support Android users well. There was an option that had auto timezone, and when enabled it offset the time from your location, for mine it was 14 hours difference. On manual time, it drifts. So bad if you wan timers set for your pool to use cheaper electricity. After spending a lot of time with the online service people who only use iOS to verify it worked, they finally said it will be fixed in an update (they removed the feature). Push notifications do not work either, so if you are considering this for the smarts, look elsewhere.

Finally, one of the PH sensor batteries has gone flat after 19 months. That is ok, however the Halo BT is glued shut so the user cannot replace, and only a 12 month warranty. The cheapest retailer has one for $479. There is also the ORP sensor which will have its bettery go soon for a similiar price.

failed unit apart and found the rubber o-rings disintegrating and blocking the small holes and so no flow. Pretty poor quality o-rings or badly pinched when assembled. Quality ain’t what it used to be. Never seen o-rings like this……. Otherwise the D10 is ok, but has a horrible interface (not as good as the old one DM52): sticky buttons that work sometimes and torment the user other times. Not a pleasure to use.

I realized this is the same chlorinator that I reviewed under another brand, still being sold online by swimart, even though my local swimart said… Read more

they no longer carried our chlorinator: https://swimart.com.au/product/electrochlor-mineral-chlorinator/

The "new" version still suffers from the same main problem, namely requiring 30% more salt than others to keep the chlorine levels reasonable (see the screenshot of the "new" brochure). Since I wrote the below, keeping the salt levels so high has obliged me to buy cheaper salt, because there has been a shortage in the area, and now my pool has mineral stains. This is why I've downgraded my review rating from 2 stars to 1. I wouldn't buy this chlorinator. Period.

4000 ppm of NaCl is the norm. This chlorinator's 5500 ppm is well beyond that. (I realize the brochure says 4000-6000 but have been told by the tech on numerous occasions to keep the salt level above 5000).

Previous review below:

I'm not sure what brand to label this chlorinator under, as it appears to be rebranded every so often. The same looking chlorinator goes under various names (here is another weblink, for example: https://www.waterco.com.au/pool-spa/water-sanitisers/electrochlor-salt-chlorinators/electrochlor-mineral-chlorinator).

But one thing is certain, none of the pool shops I went to recommended adding nearly as much salt as the specs of this chlorinator requires. We had the service person come out on 2 occasions because the chlorine output just couldn't keep up with the pool's requirements, and both times were told basically the chlorinator WOULD work properly if ONLY WE ADDED MORE SALT. Not once were we given a low salt warning, mind you.

Most pool shops will tell you to keep the salt between 4000 and 5000 ppm, but this chlorinator needs between 5000 - 6000 ppm, and states it is optimal at 5500ppm.

Sure enough, when I added 6 more bags, at $18 per bag, the chlorine levels rose, but I still need to run it at 100% for 13 hours per day. And unlike any of the pools we've had since 2008 - over 15 years now! - the water tastes and feels salty again.

So, yes, it does the job, but not without compromise and extra expense.

Also, from the get go, the screen was very dim, very difficult to read. I think others have had this problem. The problem was sort of downplayed by the pool builder and Waterco until, at one point, I was advised to open up the case and use a screwdriver to turn the contrast dial up to max, and while that helped, it was far from perfect - it was barely legible, but at least I could see what I was doing. See the photos. When a service person finally came out, they saw what we meant and replaced the screen. That made all the difference.

All in all, I wish I had been consulted by the pool builder as to what make and model chlorinator I desired for our new pool. There is very little information about this chlorinator available, and that always concerns me. I doubt I would have chosen this one simply based on that. And I think I would have found a more satisfying option. But we'll keep using this as long as they honour the warranty. Rob B

water hardness reading has previuolsy always sat quite stable but since this chlorinator has been fitted those leves been reducing month by month to the point where I now need to add water hardener to replace the ammount of calcium this cell hs removed. The huge volume of the calcium flakes in the pool also requires more frequent filter back washes after they have been picked up by the cleaner pushing up my water and chemical bills. I'm also about to remove and clean the " self cleaning" cell for the third time in the 6 months since its been fitted. The cell housing is a terrible design and very difficult to remove the chlorinator element. The chlorinator does generally manage to keep the pool chlorinated Ok other then from time to time it just seems to not bother producing chlorine and my levels drop requiring me to add liquid chlorine. This doesn't happened only in the hot summer months, Ive had it happen during spring as well. The unit I have should be oversized for my pool but I serioulsy doubt it produces chlorine at anywhere near the name plate capacity. In colder weather ( I live in Qld and ist not that cold) it will say it has low salt when it doesn't, if you have one don't add salt based on the low salt light, get your water tested first.

I have called pool controls once to try andf get some help , I must say the experience was less than satisfactory, if you ask them a question they give you one simple answer "like turn it up to 100%" if you ask more questions to try and understand what's going on then they get cranky and hang up on you, that's not what I call customer service.

I do like having the low salt level but quite frankly this chlorinator requires a lot of monitoring and pool maintenance much more than you would expect from a salt water chlorinator and the back up service is close to non existant. I couldnt recommend it.

and setup, and for the last 3 years has been without issue. The "headlines" describing the unit say 5 yr warranty when in fact the warranty is broken into two portions, 3yr for the system as a whole, and a further 2yrs on the cell. Wish I had read the fine print. After 3 years 3 months the timer stopped keeping time and contact was made with the manufacturer asking them to consider a replacement on good will. Pentair agreed, so I cant fault them in that respect. While the system has been good, the failure of the timer so soon is a big let down. If I have to keep buying replacement OEM timers at $300 ea and electricians to replace the timer $270, it works out to be quite an expensive buy. I think if there are others available to you, look at them before considering the Pentair

else in my pool for me. He saw that my H2Flo Chlorinator which he had installed 7 years ago was still going strong after over 20,000 hours of trouble free service. It does a great job and gives me no dramas at all, as well as literally being self cleaning, (gets no deposits growing on it). I'm so pleased that I took Luke's advice so many years back and didn't simply reinstall my old worn out previous chlorinator with the same brand that blew up after less than half that usage even though there was no real price difference. Have a chat to Luke at Aquamech for great pool advice and service. Thanks for being so dependable Luke

Retrochlor CW30SC – I thought I had better review this as when I decided to go down this road I couldn’t find any information on this chlorinator. So I’ve got the new… Read more

retrochlor CW30SC. First impressions are good build quality seems to be good. Installation was very easy as it is a straight swap out cell. I went for this as I like the old school simplicity of it , and also it’s a straight swap out with the old Clearwater zodiac c170 cell. And just a matter of mounting the box and connecting the cell wires to the box. It’s only been running for 1 week now as I wanted to get the salt levels and water perfect as per its specs first. So far so good, chlorine levels have been so much more than my old chlorinator. I’ve actually had to turn in it down and we’re in the middle of summer. Time will tell In terms of its true build Quality but so far I’m very happy and glad I made the change. Ive seen it run in both polarity’s and so far the cell is keeping itself clean which is a huge improvement on my old one. Chlorine levels have been far more stable than with my old one. Will update in the future after longer running time.

Tropical Pool Superstore is fraudulently advertising it as an Auto Chlor branded salt water chlorinator. It is very inferior. I plugged it in and it became extremely hot and that's when I looked at the manual and discovered it was not an Auto Chlor at all. The company did not want to issue a refund over numerous emails.

So I ordered a chargeback through the bank. I did get my money back this way. You can get your money back if you order a chargeback as they are obviously selling an inferior product under the Auto Chlor name.

Please visit the Tropical Pool Superstore review page to see all the people who have bought this chlorinator to find it inferior and didn't get a refund. Do NOT buy from them!
