Ok product, flawed design – It works okay if you modify it to have a second hose for the intake of the condenser. This is because the air that it blows out of the room creates negative pressure, and air will come from outside and make the air conditioner struggle to cool the room. Even then it is best suited for a small room. Struggles to keep the room at 24 deg c on very hot days. Its not incredibly noisy, but it is annoying to sleep in the same room with. Show details

Does Not cool a small room – The unit runs hot. The cold air that is pushed out is not enough to overcome the heat that is produced by the unit. Therefore the room does not cool down. I had to modify the window mount because it was too short. I used cardboard and tape to create a good seal so outside air didn't come back in. If you sit directly in front of it you will get some benefit. The unit is also very loud. Show details

we agree with others on here save your money!!!! – we agree with others on here its not worth $300 and being a pensioner its alot of money. its that noisy you cant sleep with it on, if its above 35 degrees for get it sure it blows cool air but for cooling your room forget it and pur room is half the recommended room size. the hose gets that hot its ridiculous. we tryed to take it back today to… Read more

Bunnings for a refund as it was not coolong as its meant too. well that were the fun started the manner plug it in let it run for 5 mins and said its fine it blows cold air. you can't have a refund or exchange nothing. my son and i tryed to explain for half hour we didn't say it didnt blow cool air, it isn't cooling a room half the size its meant to, so he said well you must have holes in your house wt, um no it's a sealed room ??? well i have one at home and it works fine he said...we dont have a car so we had to get a taxi there with it and a taxi back what a waste of money. we asked to speck to one of the other mangers on and he refused and said no?? he was so rude and was just grasping at straws for the reasons he wouldn't refund us the money? its not like Bunnings is lossing out really the mark it up is.like 300 percent and they send it back as faulty they loss out nothing. so we are stuck with a $300 aircon thats useless...i wish i had read these reviews before we brougjt it because we would never had got one in the first place....save your money!!!!

Don’t waste your money – Placed this into our 5 years old room as i can handle heat with a fan. Firstly, it’s pretty noisy! I wouldn’t say that’s minimal. Our fan is more quieter on a higher speed. Secondly, yes it blows cool air out but don’t think it stands a chance against a 35 degree evening. Maybe if your place is tiled flooring you’d get a better chance. The room is… Read more

quiet small too, i didn’t think this would be an issue in cooling down quicker. If you asked me honestly if this is worth buying, no. Find something else. I don’t know what but I’m sure there’s something better out there!

Nothing fits to mount to window – Well it's 33deg with 85 percent humidity so great chance to try out this new product. Went to put fitting in window and its to short by 10 cm, rang to buy a longer window fitting but of course they don't sell them. Next tried to attach pipe into window fitting and its to wide and won't butt up against widow sill. Then to top it off the base of the… Read more

pipe won't screw properly into the thread. Can't tell you how it preforms as setting it up for over an hour has lead me to the conclusion it will be refunded. Come on Arlec it's 2020, where is the ease of installation??????

Epic failure. it heated my room more than cool it – I purchased the 10,000BTU Arlec portable Conditioner from Bunnings. They had smaller units, but thought I'd go with a larger cooling capacity machine. Despite the fact that the cubic space that I wished to cool was about half that of the maximum stated cubic space that the 10,000btu machine should be able to cool. The room it was purchased for,… Read more

is only 7.5 cubic meters, and is very, very well insulated. I hooked up the unit, and plumbed the hot air expel hose through a purpose cut and sealed hole right beside the machine. It blew cool air for about 5 minutes, then after an electrical click, it blew hot air, for about 10 minutes. This is approximately the ratio of cool air and hot air that it continued to blow. It was heating the room to an unbearable high. It was better to not use it at all on hot days. I tied my best to get this to work over a few weeks, thinking it must be a user error, or something I was doing wrong. But no, it just got worse. I even tried using it on days that weren't even hot. It took a room that was sitting at a stable 24 degrees, and raised it well in to the thirties, without a human even being in the room. Eventually I took it back. Thankfully, Bunnings provided a full refund.

Warning faulty hose crumbles – Plastic hoses, melt and crumble. Dose not cool a small room, we bought 3, for 3 small rooms, lots of design faults with the hoses, leaks onto floor and worst of all dose not cool. Really bad design, no quality. Leaks onto flooring. The hose crumbled rendering the system useless, communication between Arlec and consumer is nasty, no resolution, no hose replacement on any of the 3 systems under a year old.  Show details

Arlec Air Conditioner – The A/C perfomance is statisfactory for the room size, but if purchasing a portable A/C, ensure the room size matches the A/C This unit has a reasonably high water production (condensate rate) and a collection tub is required for the unit. The unit runs wuietly and operates well with varying fan speeds.  Show details

Ok for a small room, bad for even a small flats lounge room – Considering this was $400 it is a big disappointment, it is incredibly loud, barely cools a small lounge room and the hose it came with has started to disintergrate. Money wasted when i could of spent a few hundred more and got a quality dimplex one. Avoid this unless you can get one cheap and are using it to pre cool down your small bedroom cause you certainly couldnt sleep with it on consideringthe noise.  Show details

Arlec 7000 BTU – Purchased the unit from Bunnings about a week ago for $250. Was initally going to buy the honeywell unit from costco for $600 as it was the only one with consistently good reviews until I was recommended this! So glad I didnt as this unit cools my small bedroom perfectly. It is noisy but so far Ive found running it up until sleep time has kept me… Read more

cool enough to sleep through the night. Has not needed an empty yet. Has been about 30 degrees plus all week and has been fine may need ear plugs when the weather gets hotter.

Only $249 from Bunnings Armadale. Its noisy BUT not too noisy...I ll settle being a bit noisy than a hot room. People complaints about portable aircon BUT they don't want to spend over $1000 plus installation for a split....like paying a $50 HolidayInn but expect a Hyatt standard  Show details

Excellent job cooling. Efficient just noisy – Very satisfied cools great. Yes noisy but it does the job. It's 2pm 18/1/17 30° celcious tonight. Inside 25°. Happy to have my new Arlec 10000. Easy to move simple to install. Have on sleep mode, not a great deal of difference noise wise. Getting ear plugs, next tomorrow. Goodnight.  Show details

Awesome machine – This little unit cools a single room awesomely. To a nice and comfortable cool. As soon as it was turned on for the first time it blew cool air. Previous comments say it's loud but you can't expect a portable aircon to be quiet. would be hard to sleep with but for day to day usage it's not intrusive m.  Show details

Cheap and does the trick – Bought the 10000btu model at $288 on a very hot day. It does the trick to cool down a 12sqm room, 10 degrees lower than the outside, in 2 hours. The air temperature measured at the blow hole was 16 degrees, which was 12 degrees lower than the room temperature. It is indeed noisy and the noise is the unpleasant kind. Ear plugs are nesessary if you want to sleep with it.  Show details

RAAF Jets make less noise – I have used this for an hour. My head is ringing. The RAAF don't make this much noise when they fly over. Don't buy one unless you already have lost your hearing.OK.

good but noisy – I bought this unit so I could use it in different rooms. The window setup is a bit tricky and doesn't promote the idea of being portable! I have had to use cardboard extensions to get the right length in our sliding windows and then tape over all the gaps and the gap created where the right and left panes now overlap. It is noisy and this has… Read more

been annoying. As far as I can tell there's only 2 fan speeds - high and higher. I'm going to have another look at the manual as this doesn't seem right and maybe I'm not pressing the right buttons.

Otherwise, it cools down the room well unless its already really hot in the room - then it struggles and you need to sit in front of it!

Cools, but is Noisy – This ac cools moderately well. Easy to set up and user friendly. Very noisy unit, would only recommend with ear plugs.( ADDIT: 14/1/15 I have had the unit running every night since my first review in November and have to say that it only took about another 3 weeks or so to get use to the unit noise. Much happier that I bought this unit now.

great unit – I purchased this unit 5 years ago (ex Bunnings) to use in my caravan, where I spend most of my time. I cut a hole for the exhaust in the caravan wall, and installed it, keeping the distance from the duct outlet to the unit as short as possible to still remain within the installation spacing requirements. I then built a cabinet around it, and… Read more

installed vents in this so the unit could "breathe" and function normally.

In that 5 years, I have been to Tasmania twice, several trips to Qld and western NSW, over some fairly bouncy roads (when on the road the unit is secured with a strap), and aside from cleaning the four slide out filters regularly (I do this weekly - takes 5 minutes) have had no problems at all. The water tank only fills when you have the unit set to the "DRY" function, which de-humidifies.

As you can appreciate, this unit is operating under fairly harsh conditions, and is often in use for two or three days at a time, non-stop. Caravans get pretty hot, and this unit copes well, the performance only seems to drop off when the temperature gets into the upper 30's, then its time to sit on the old bean bag on the floor in front of it! ;-)

All in all, a great unit, not overly heavy on power, not too noisy, remote control is a bonus and works well. Also great if you happen to be one of the many of us that suffer from asthma and allergies - you have no idea how much muck the filters pick up - saves the old lungs nicely.

Take the time to install it properly with some forethought and you will be happy with it!

Highly endorse this unit without any reservations at all.

January 17th 2015 Update:

Talk about putting a hex on myself, 6 days after writing the review below, the trusty Arlec passed away, dead, finis.....

A couple of interesting notes: After writing the review, I called Arlec in Melbourne, to find a local service person in Brisbane, as I thought that it was due for a service, maybe a regas.

First, I was told that Arlec do not have service agents and I should "just take it to any air conditioning service place".

Secondly, on ringing around, I found very quickly, that nobody is interested in touching these units, the reason being they have no gas top up valve - I am told they are a sealed system, which means the tech would have to fit a valve, making it uneconomical to repair.

So now, in good conscience, I must amend my review in light of this information. I expect an appliance to be repairable for a minor fault, and if its not I can not endorse it, therefore I would have to say that while the unit has been good for the time I had it, I would probably not buy another one simply because they cant be repaired when they start to give problems.

Does the job – My son works nights and in the Gold Coast summer his room gets very hot and he was having difficulty getting good rest. So I researched portable Air Con units. It seemed we would require around 3Kw for the size of his room and at 2.9 Kw this seemed a good choice. I contacted a store who stocked them and was told by the salesperson I should look at… Read more ·  5

a 3.5 Kw AC unit as this would be to small. This did not fit in with my calculations so I ignored this advice as being something he should have tried on when I was actually IN STORE :) I went to Bunnings, bought the unit, installed it as per instructions including raising it high above the ground to have the air outlet level with the AC unit. I always start the unit off at 18 to get a good chill on then raise it to 24 and then maintain it at 26 and the room feels like the inside of a cooler. So far we have used it 12 times and have not had to empty the water at all and it chills well. The noise is what I would expect from any AC unit including fixed. My son sleeps like a rock through the sound as the comfort from sleeping in a cool room far outweighs any inconvenience the constant breeze makes.

This unit has been used by my sister the last couple of years and it is still pumping!!

Poor quality – I bought this 4 years ago from Bunnings. Used it less than 10 times only during hot summer. Now when I use the aircond mode, it rattles loudly and the noise is unbearable that you have to switch it off. Called Arlec support but they wont do anything because the warranty is over. Personally, i think a product should last a decent cycle. I will… Read more

never buy expensive Arlec electronics again. $20 door bell, maybe. If you plan to use this everyday for 2 summers maybe you get your money worth.
