Review Arrma Mojave RC I have an addiction. I love RC vehicles. Whether it is a 1/64 scale table top racer or camera topped 4WD, could be a car capable of 160km/h, I have them, I love them, I enjoy getting new ones, with different capabilities and uses. This time around, it is the 1/16 scale ARRMA Mojave Grom 223S BLX RC Short Course Truck. Now there are Mojave Groms, then there is the Mojave Grom 223S BLX.

As a RTR (ready to run) unit, everything is provided. Even the 4 X AA batteries for the remote.

Best points quickly:

Size. At 1/16 scale, it is small enough to take on a road trip, but not too small.

It is ideal for all skill levels.

Comes with a 7.4v 2S Lipo which gets it to ~56km/h (can take an 11.1v 3S Lipo and hit 80km/h

This is the perfect RC for all skill levels. Your 8-12 year old will get years out of the 2S battery, and once more skilled can look at the 3S battery and seriously let loose, as they get older.

The vehicle is designed to be bashed. Front and rear bumpers have impact absorbing sections built in, so this will take a good hit and still keep going. And with the speeds it is capable of, it needs to be tough. Thankfully, Arrma made sure it is tough.

A strong, full length rigid chassis, provides the perfect base to build this little beast on. Then add in the 2S battery, a waterproof ESC/Reciever and a Spektrum 4500Kv motor. To transfer all this power, Arrma even did the upgrades to the drivetrain for you. All metal, all strong.

That’s right, from the driveshafts, to the oil filled diffs. The oil filled suspension that lets the car sit in a nice aggressive pose.

To add to your enjoyment, this vehicle even has DSC - Dynamic Stability Control. Usually, I am against this, as some over do the job and make it an un-driveable mess.Arrma, they got it right. You can happily put this into a r wheel drift, on rough tarmac, concrete, dirt and YOU are in control. The DSC does exist, but it isn’t ‘there’, it overly noticeable.

Add in some aluminum shock absorbers and adjustable steering linkage and you have a little dragon, that’s ready to breath fire.

To put all this scale power to the ground, the Arrma Mojave comes fitted with colour co-ordinated Tough dBoots Fortress tyres. These are brilliant tyres on all surfaces. They wear well and survive pretty much everything I can throw at them.

Then the cream on the pie. Clipless body. That’s right, not R/K or whatever they are and no, it’s not magnetic. Instead two buttons, one either side, press in, all the super goodness of Arrma and Spektrum is revealed.

With a well balanced interior, the battery compartment is seemingly purpose fitted for the2S, but a Quick Look and a small foam block can be removed for the 3S, if desired.

The ESC/Reciever is easily accessible, as is the big turn on button. Remember, Controller, then Car. car the Controller. That’s what they want.

The outer body is well supported by an inner skeleton/framework, which makes it quite rigid. The roof is fitted with a couple of skid rails, I have already used them a few times. With more than a few multi roll over crashes, this has already held up really well.

As I said, I am not looking to put a 3S in this for now. I truly think the 2S is more than sufficient to provide fun for 80% of us. Sure, later I may get one, but for now I am more than content to rip it up km/h and drift at will.

For its intended purpose, a smaller, more easily transported, rugged, fast vehicle that would cop abuse. This fits the bill on every level.

I would highly recommend this as a first ‘proper’ RC for 8 years and up. It’s a great small scale, portable unit to fill in 20 minutes. With the ability to simply plug in an 11.1v 3S is insane, but a true feature for those who really like to rip it hard.

As a first RC for a teen/adult. Definitely. Racing around a skate park, a basketball court, a dirt car park, even a BMX track, the Arrma Mojave 223S BLX is a truck that lives up to the Arrma motto: Don’t Just Bash, Blast!

With this, you will have years of fun. And how can I say years? simple, it comes with a TWO YEAR WARRANTY! Yes, you read that right a 2 YEAR warranty. I was flabbergasted. I would need to read up on exactly what is covered, but even the idea of a 2 year warranty on an RC. The mind boggles.

This is an excellent small scale car, with big car features and mid to big car speed. If you are thinking of getting started in FC and want a proper RC, this is the one for you. And at ~AU$400 at the time I bought it, with EVERYTHING in the box ready to go, it’s a steal.
