Great Little Machine – Purchased this netbook about 4 years ago running WinXP, never had issues. It was not my main computer & used mainly when out & about. Now with winXP unsupported I have changed the operating system to Linux Mint 17. Linux Mint has now given this great little computer a new lease on life, battery is back to close it's full life Almost everything
sweet ! – had my ASUS 1000H for about 3 years now - used it every day since I bought it, took it overseas 4-5 times, great slim compact portability, even with larger 6 cell battery it's only a bit over a kilo - has an SD card slot so I just slip my camera card in to automatically copy photos and clear the card. I use it for all my computing - web… Read more
browsing, email reading and writing, preparing documents and spreadsheets.
I have a wireless mouse - use one of the USB slots for the tiny receiver, and at home run it plugged into power without battery (lighter - just under 1.1kg)
Downsides - the non-standard screen proportions sometimes raise warning messages, the speakers sound tinny (but headphones sound great),
In short - I love it - and would look for similar again if this dies - which it doesn't look like doing anytime soon. light, compact, good battery life, SD card slot, does everything I need nothing - tinny speakers (headphones are fine), odd screen resolution proportions
Excellent – I purchased the 1000H 10” screen eeepc about a year ago as a portable laptop for travelling. It is not used as a primary computer. I find it to be fantastic! The OS loads quickly and I have no problem running multiple programs at once. The absence of a CD drive doesn’t bother me at all as most of my media is on a portable hard drive. I have… Read more
smaller hands so I quickly got used to the small keyboard. I love that you can scroll down pages by dragging two fingers down on the touchpad. I usually use it with the adapter so don’t bring the battery along, which makes it considerably lighter. Very portable, light, looks slick, works almost as well as my primary computer. Typing on the smaller may be harder for people with big hands, it takes a while to get used to the smaller screen if you are switching from a large screen computer.
Good – Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for notebook/netbook: - Most usage while on the move - Internet Browsing and casual Microsoft Office Usage - Do not use CD/DVD often - Ultra portability and light weight - International Warranty (Please check before buying if the warranty is International as they have the same… Read more
model with domestic warranty only) - Light Weight
- Ultra Portable
- Nice Battery backup (around 5-6 hours against the ASUS advertised backup of 9 hours)
- Small AC adaptor
- Large screen for a netbook
- VGA port allows connection to the projector/monitor so can be a handy desktop for home ion a case to case basis
- International Warranty - Screen Resolution has limitations depending on the usage
- Changed keyboard layout which can take a while for you to adjust
- Small keys but then it seems to be acceptable considering the portability of the netbook
Excellent – These little things are great for travelled and anyone who needs to stay connected while they're out and about. They can easily be upgraded with another 1GB of RAM, to make a total of 2GB, which will free up a bit more speed. If you're only needing email, word-processing, basic spreadsheets, the odd solitaire game, and a travelling home… Read more
entertainment system that doesn't wreck your arms and shoulders carrying it, then the ASUS Eee PC 1000H is a good choice. If you need a bit more you might look at the Eee PC 1101HA which is a bit larger, with higher/wider screen resolution, and even longer battery life. I've been very happy with my purchase. It's lightweight, and you won't get sore carrying this one around whilst travelling. It will do practically everything that a larger laptop would do, your only major limit is the screen resolution for some programs. Speed is good considering the low power usage and long battery life. It's great on plane flights, it will fit in the back-pocket of the seat in front without hanging out so it shouldn't become a missile during turbulence, and the narrow size means you can type without elbowing your neighbour every time you "Shift" or "Enter" etc. Fit's on most hotel bedside tables so, with the N type WiFi, you can check emails and the news before getting out of bed and starting the day. Great in WiFi coffee shops for the same reasons. Battery life is realistically about 6 hours when using it, of course this depends on what you're using it for, but six hours is a long time for any laptop and far beyond most. The "Shift" key position can take a bit of getting use to, and the keyboard feels a bit loose, but all works well. The screen resolution is a major limiting factor for productivity applications/software.
OK – Overall not as hot as I expected. Unit ended up sitting at home a lot - only bring it with me during travel to download photos or to track projects. When at wrok we have work computers/ notebooks. When at home we have the iMac Central. Hence the ASUS EeePC highly recommended as it is (in it's class) has been relegated to holidays and travel. … Read more
With the iPad however, it is facing greater extinction. Portability. Lightweight. Reasonable battery life. Nice concept. Reliable. ASUS support level. Ease of upgrade - can be done at home through simple unscrewing of patch underneath and inserting memory into the slot - as c/f to the Acer which needed to be sent to the factory due to inaccessible slot. Before the iPad, the netbook would be the bring around the house computer. Small screen. Difficult to see esp when need to scroll. This is a BIG disadvantage.
Small keyboard - rearrangement was annoying - took a while to get used to. Kept pressing wrong key. I am used to fast downloadig speed. Found the Netbook annoyingly slow on the internet.
OK – It's a good buy if you can pick one up on special or secondhand. With the technology out since I bought it though, I won't be getting another netbook. I'd much prefer to spend the extra to get an iPad. Lightweight and sturdy. The battery life is better than expected for such a small unit. Screen resolution and colours are good and it's convenient… Read more
to take out as a small netbook. Easily copped when I upgraded system to windows 7. I found the keyboard layout really annoying and I'm still not used to it. Doesn't seem as fast as you'd expect with high speed internet. I haven't used it for the purposes it was originally bought though so it's more a 'toy' than a useful piece of equipment. Just found the keyboard too annoying
