Asus fx516 i7-11370H RTX3070 16GB DDR4, 144Hz Version – Got this on a flash sale in officeworks couldn't resist the AU$1597 price which was well reduced not sure why but I bought it on the spot. Decently built nice back lit keyboard, thunderbolt 4 is great to have. this version has 16gb ram soldered and 1 ram slot empty so upgrade is easy. The Hyinx Nvme ssd runs at about 3000MB/s so it that's good. There are many reviews around stating this laptop is power limited from factory for the CPU and GPU, which is sort pretty true.. using trottlestop I confirm the CPU TDP Maxs out at around 48w..but will go lower when the GPU is running at full speed. The rtx has a TDP limited bios at 85w which is for this gpu.. yet with some clever undervolting I've still achieved a time spy score of over 7800, and when I changed the gpu bios to a 115w tdp version, the timespy score hits over 9k..but this risky due to temperatures going up to 90c. Unfortunately Intel have hardware locked any undervolt option on the CPU.. this is a big pity as the CPU temps do head skyward under load. That said with some trottlestop tdp limiting on the CPU and the speed step lowered with the gpu bios at 115w and gpu voltages locked at around 1800mhz 0.8v the gaming performance is excellent, easily achieving 80-100fps at 1080p in Metro Exodus and Tomb Raider benchmarks.. I'm still tweaking the settings for cyberpunk, there are so many many graphics setting there.. it may take a while to optimise..

Overall this laptop is a very nice upgrade from my Acer vn7-593g nitro 1060gtx i77700h laptop from 2017.. almost twice the time spy scores so a worth upgrade. I wouldn't pay over 2k for this.. wait for a sale.. I'll go it so cheap.. I'm not sure what officeworks thinking but I'm not complaining. I've upgraded 16gb more 3200hz ram, added a Samsung nvme ssd to the spare slot and have another nvme externally connected to the usb C port which runs at 950MB/s (usb3.1 gen2) so this gaming laptop is maxed out with 2.5TB of storage.. perfect for portable gaming.. not sure how things will run in the hot summer months, maybe but then there will be options to undervolt the CPU.. I may repast the internals heatsink... but don't want to void the warrenty just yet. final thoughts.. don't pay more than $1800 and you've got a fast RTX gaming machine.

Purchased in at Officeworks Physical store for $1,597.

NOT YET 2 WEEKS OLD AND ALREADY THERE ARE ISSUES!! – Well I have had this Brand New Asus Gaming Laptop for less than 2 weeks, and suddenly messages started to appear asking me to Activate my copy of Windows?? I went to the activation page and there was a highlighted message saying that this copy of windows could not be activated as it was not a legal copy?? I tried several things to remedy this issue without success. I contacted Asus Support and initially was told to return it to place of purchase. I explained that it was purchased Online from JB HiFi and that I lived in rural Victoria - a trip to Melbourne and back would be 10 hours. He seemed very disinterested. It was only after I mentioned the ACCC that he offered to arrange pickup of my Laptop for repairs. This has been initiated and waiting for some response by Asus Repair Centre in Melbourne. Not a great experience with this Asus Laptop. Paid over $1,700 only for it to be sitting in a Repair Centre, waiting, waiting ........
