Excellent gate for a wide opening, would buy it over again if I had to. Would be 5 stars if the locking mechanism didn't stick out.
Very sturdy to go across wide opening. No unsafe foot holds like some other options on the market. Screws into wall so not relying on wind out pins. Simple white colour that doesn't have lots of kiddy designs or logos all over it (just our preference). Very good adjustable length. Can open the whole thing up or just the small gate. Opens in both directions. has withstood lots of shaking and now climbing from our toddler.
Difficult to fit right if you have skirting boards in the way - needs a bit of a work around and it should make this fitting issue clear on the box. Toddlers palm skin got trapped in the hinge when it was opened one day when hand on top of gate. Screw thing that is the locking mechanism sticks out when the gate is open and is just the right (wrong) size and height to poke a toddler in the eye (although because the locking mechanism is so simple there is nothing to break). We have other Baby dan safety gates with better closing mechanisms.
BabyDan was the only brand that passed all of the tests done by Choice. We have a very wide doorway, and there weren't many other brands that had extensions long enough. I like that the gate opens both ways and that you can actually swing the whole fence open if you needed to move something big out of the room. The design of the safety lock is excellent. To unlock gate you press down on the locking latch which frees the gate, but you then have to lift up gate for it to swing open - it would be hard for baby/toddler to learn to do this.
Excellent for large doorways - up to 4 metres. High fence. Gate opens in either direction. Design of lock is excellent.
Expensive. Takes awhile to assemble - screws into wall - have to be very precise!. Note: the parts that screw into wall are taller than the skirting board frame so it means you either have to remove it or raise it above.
Too Would be good if they had of used cups screwed into the walls instead of actually hanging the gate off the wall. At least this was the pressure of the gate is pushed inward and would be less damaging to the area.
Fitted across the area required. Not many on the market cover large area over 2 metres.
Had to fix it to the wall. The pressure pulls outward and actually pulled have our architrave off on one side. Lots of movement in the gate also. Little ones tend to stand up and look through or hold on and shake it. Not real sturdy. We are onto our third brand of gate now and this was the worst of the three.
This is a great product, I am really glad I found out about it. Most of my friends with baby gates have had issues with mechanisms breaking or the gate being too low. This one is really good so far and I don't expect any problems. Worth the money.
Solid, easy mechanism (for adults), relatively easy to install, well made, great for unusual openings and gaps.
Care needs to be taken if you forget to close it behind you when the bub is asleep etc. The locking pin in the gate section can cause a nasty bruise if you walk into it.
