What the actual hell – I bought some of the 12lb smoke colour fireline and it is so crap. It's not round its flat and doesnt even look like rounded rope braid. It looks plasticy and just like some black tooth floss. Do not buy it horrible line. Show details
How bloody good is Fireline – Well, I've 20lb Fireline on a 4000 Shimano Sienna i bought in 2015, I've hooked and landed Spanos at Kalbarri, big Tailor in Gregory, metre long reef sharks in Jurien and good size Snapper in Rocko. I've just purchased a 5000 Shimano Nasci and without a second thought I'll bung on another spool of Fireline for sure. Note........i wash both spool… Read more
, reel & rods in freshwater after every fishing session without fail, towel dry and leave in the shade for a few hours. I'm luvin the colour, real stealthy olive green, she's faded over time but so have many of my gf's.
Thermo fused line - replacing mono at an astounding rate! – I have been using Berkley's Fireline for the last few years and its been a joy to use! It gets lures down deeper, gives you a greater sense of control and feel, lets you know when your fouled with weed and overall gives you the ability to spool more line onto your reel. I usually buy the fluro green, Fluro pink and Clear when I can find it, but… Read more · 1
the coloured line gives you the ability to see the line and track it to where it is in the water, or if you've cast it into a tree like I do all the time...
The line is a thermally fused material to make one long piece, from what I read they are of random lengths unlike a true braided line where all the individual strands are of the same length. I feel that the knots tied with the Fireline are pretty good and hold really well and prone to less slipping than that of true braid lines which can need glue to hold tight. I can also say quiet happily that Fireline is a little better at abrasion than that of a true braid line from my experiences.
I've been using Berkley Fireline for the last 4 + years and am very happy with the product, in weights of 2,4,6,8,12,15,30lb and up for larger rod's and reels. However it is quiet expensive compared to mono and comes in 125yard lengths (99% of the time it needs to be under-filled with a good quality mono of the same poundage), in some shops you can get the 300yard lengths but prices are usually prohibitive to the general fisher like myself. The only downside to the line is that it can fray on the working end of the line from general use and casting, and you can experience some weakening of the area and the knots that are tied to your leader line. I usually strip off the line after some use of two seasons and reverse the lines spooling (old working end back onto the spool first), giving you another seasons or two or more if your careful with the line around rocks etc.
All in all, this line wont make you catch more fish, but its far stronger, more sensitive and far better at casting after it wears in after a few casts! High sensitivity, casts further, stronger, lasts a little longer than Mono, knots hold better than true Braid lines, comes in some good visible colours and a crystal clear now. Somewhat expensive compared to high quality mono's. Floats on top of the water, and floats in the air if you use super light diameters and lures. Waves, tide etc effect the line about the same as mono, however easy to top shot and reverse for longer life and use.
