Bodum Bistro Double Wall Kettle

temperatures inferior to the ones indicated – It is a beautiful kettle. I wonder about the plastic of the lid??? I checked the temperatures (except the 100º) and they were lower than the ones indicated. I would have like to have 95º as it is frequently required for herbal teas. Otherwise it is a fast and efficient kettle.

Very short life – I was very happy with this kettle until now - not hot to touch, no plastic smell. It looked good in red and glass. It even boiled water and switched off automatically! It is now nearly two months old and regrettably the switch has died. Seems like a common problem. Now it just sits there with the lamp flickering occasionally and staying cold. Still looks good though.

Taste Free – Following the unregretted death of my metal Kambrook KSK50 (after 3 years, it went out with a bang by blowing the kitchen circuit breaker) I checked to find a suitable replacement. tastes strongly of chemicals. Decided to go fully up market and get insulated glass. Peters of Kensington were recommended by the importer as having a full range of BODUM products, and for $98 I acquired a neat red kettle. I can't burn my hands on this kettle, it runs quiet, and has no smells or taste issues. So far, so good. Hope it lasts... It's quick, quiet, tasteless, and looks good. Double wall insulation is superb. Fulfills my criteria. Hard to remove French "Save Energy" label strongly glued to insulation

photo of the kettle with cord cut (thankfully didn't have to waste money sending the dud kettle back) - excellent service by this seller! We had a new one within days. A month later and same thing happened again. This time we got a refund - again full points to Peters of Kensington and I guess Bodum who must have honored the guarantee. I think the problem lies in the fact that the switch is in the top of the handle - possibly steam is able to seep in and short it out? It certainly became hot on both kettles. Possibly the switches were faulty from the start? A shame as we liked the product and our Bodum toaster now has to share the benchtop with a K-mart cheapie which doesn't match (so far so good on that one). Quiet. Keeps water hotter for longer. Cool to touch. two kettles stopped working after only 1 month.

Loving it so far – After using a sunbeam stainless steel kettle called Alur Peace and Quiet that was extremely noisy we really need one that is quiet to give ourselves some peace. to look at it several time to check that it is in deed turned on because it is SO quiet. We have found the right kettle at last. I did read the other review first and I did find that helpful. The big handle does not bother us at all. We are very happy the kettle is cool to touch because we have a 2 year old who may occasionally sneak pass the opened child gate in the kitchen and reach up the bench top. The only thing I find a little annoying is the pouring, due to the design where the plastic joins the glass the pouring is affected. It just takes a little time to get used to, I guess I now pour slowly so the water does not gush suddenly if I tip it too far. We have read that if you empty the kettle when not in use it will help decrease or slow down the metal base scaling. We are doing that to see if this works, only time will tell. Boils quickly and quietly. The pouring could be improved.

kettle and the outside is warm to touch, not hot, which is great if you have kids. The handle is bulky but manageable. I love that you can see what's inside so if you can always see if the water is clean or if an unwanted creature has snuck in there.

I hope I am still saying this in a few months. Fast, quiet and warm to touch (not hot). Not as fragile as other glass kettles because the exterior is plastic I wish the glass interior extended all the way to spout. Being double wall makes it the same size as most kettles but the capacity is a lot less.
