Bonsoy

The best soy milk by far. It’s utterly delicious. I’ve been using it for years, and I’m prone to having an inner fit if a cafe I go to doesn’t have it (ha!!). The packaging is great because there’s no plastic waste. The chunky bits that are sometimes at the bottom - honestly, delicious!!
I love Bonsoy – I have read all the comments about the packaging. Yes it is a pain, but buy yourself a couple of one litre glass bottles and simply decant the contents in to it. Simple and you are not buying more plastic to throw away. I moved away from Bonsoy for a while, seeking more calcium in my milk. However, the oily feel of other brands has brought me… Read more
back. It has the best taste by far. I did prefer the kombu version but i understand it triggered thyroid problems for some people.
It's organic. It's natural. It has less packaging. It tastes the BEST – Yes, we can taste the difference Bonsoy makes in our coffee. Yes, we pay more for organic soy beans which means less PESTICIDES in every glass (you do know why they genetically modify soy beans, right?). Hooray that it also has less packaging, which makes it easier to recycle. Those complaining about using scissors need to have a think about what all those millions of plastic pourers mean to the planet. Show details
Good to bad – I've been using Bonsoy for 3 years and was very happy with it, though I hate the packaging as you have to open with a pair of scissors, then it always leaks when you shake it. Recently, I've started to see it congealing and becoming lumpy when I put it in my tea. It would start to happen when I got through about 70% of the carton. And it seems to… Read more
be getting more frequent. I tossed out a third-full carton this morning and, when I opened a new one, that was lumpy from the beginning. This is the 4th carton it's happened to.
Annoying to use!! – I only give it a one star because of the packaging. The milk itself it great.. lumpy to pour at times as l struggle to shake well before using it.. l always make a mess and would love to see a screw cap soon..
No Cap, No Pour! – Great Soy, Dreadful Pack! This company simply refuses to add a twist cap on their pack, making it absolutely dreadful for use in busy cafe environment, even dangerous to staff using knives and scissors to cut a very thick material that makes up their pack. I don't care how great their milk is- if I can't easily pour it, if I cannot agitate it to… Read more
mix the settlement inside, if I cannot close off air from the pack, then I'm going to choose another better pack... and there's plenty of really good soy out there, Like MilkLab, Alternative Dairy and even the 100% Australian brand Vitasoy!
Bad Package Spoils the Soy! – Dreadful Packaging! Cut finger trying to make a spout because the makers of Bonsoy refuse to have a cap to use and reuse the soymilk (which is actually one of the nicest). Just about everyone, all other brands, have a good screw cap on the container, but not Bonsoy - will never buy Bonsoy again. Get your act together guys, it’s 2024, not 1974!
Disappointing – After at least 12 months of not having bonsoy soy milk, I am very disappointed to find that its creamy consistency is now non existent… it is so watery with no flavour. It was a superior soy milk, now it is just another soy milk at a much much expensive price tag Show details
The milk is excellent – It would be better if the packet had a screw cap however as pouring out of the full tetra pack without spilling milk everywhere is challenging. Show details
Organic NonGMO – Aside from the far superior taste and consistency of Bonsoy, I believe this is safest option amongst soymilks. They use organic non-GM0 soybeans (certified), filtered water and only other safe ingredients. While, if you read the contents on many other brands, they are often full of inflammatory ingredients – especially a problem if you already… Read more
have health issues. The particular way the beans are processed also makes Bonsoy a safer option according to everything I've read. Many other soymilk manufacturers use GMO soybeans which also, in the growing process, maybe sprayed up to 5 times with products like Roundup - a pretty heavy duty pesticide which of course penetrates the soybean .. I find that very scary.
Changing ingredients – My review is to alert that Bonsoy Almond milk has changed its ingredients without disclosing what the changes are so check before you buy Show details
Needs a screw cap – I will resume buying it if and when it comes with a screw cap Show details
I find it makes me anxious after drinking it – I like the flavour and was a big drinker of Bon Soy but like another reviewer here suggests, it makes me feel anxious. I stopped drinking it for a while but then tried it after a 6 month break and soon after started feeling off and anxious. Since then I've not drank Bonsoy and never feel anxious. Seems odd... but they were sued previously for high levels of iodine and the formulae might still be causing effect. Show details
Find out how Bonsoy compares to other Milk
Know better, choose better.
Just average, no screwtop, high price...no thanks – I find Bonsoy to be just average soy milk for espresso. I hear it used to be much better and creamier. We used it because it was organic. However, there is nothing really special about it now as current formulation seems to be weaker and watered down. Sure it's better than 'normal' soy milk but not the new barista soy milks that are out and it… Read more
isn't that great to justify the higher price, maybe because it's organic. I don't know. It doesn't froth that well and can be inconsistant especially if not shaken correctly. At such a high price, the fact that Bonsoy doesn't provide a screwtop is quite insulting. Other companies have been putting pour caps on their milk boxes for decades, I don't understand why Bonsoy doesn't.
Like others, we stopped using Bonsoy in our cafe because of the lack of a screwtop, the time it takes to cut and open a new box, and properly shake it when you are in a hurry dealing with a lot of customers. Funnily enough, most customers can't seem to tell the difference. We found this by accident when we started pouring Bonsoy into a separate, resealable bottle that wasn't as messy, would last longer, and was easier to store, but customers actually started complaining that we weren't using Bonsoy and accusing us of ripping them off because they couldn't see the Bonsoy box and accused us of using cheaper stuff but charging the Bonsoy price.
However, If you are going to continue to use it and not in a hurry, in order to get air into the box and shake it up properly without chunks or remnants on the bottom, put a small hole in the top where the little black dot is, put your thumb over that hole and then shake BEFORE you cut the flap to pour. We found this the only way to actually mix the soy milk somewhat properly.
We've found another better barista soy milk that is nearly half the price, froths SO much better, and so much easier to work with...and has a resealable cap! It's not organic but our customers seem to like as well. It's So Good Barista Soy.
Painful Packaging – I work in a cafe and we have stopped using Bonsoy because of the inconvenient packaging. No time to cut the top, can't shake it once open. Please take a hint from other manufacturers and put a lid on it. Show details
are others still experiencing anxiety and irritability with drinking bonsoy? – i bought bonsoy to make probiotic yogurt with. it ticked the boxes for me because it has no added oil, uses organic soy beans and is made in japan. i also found that it makes excellent non-dairy yogurt and i like the taste and texture of it by itself. but i noticed that i started getting anxiety while consuming this soy milk. after the anxiety got… Read more
ridiculous, i stopped consuming bonsoy for a couple of weeks. after the anxiety subsided, i started drinking the bonsoy again. but the anxiety came back, along with pretty bad irritability. this anxiety and irritability is like nothing i've ever experienced before in my life. it's literally making my days feel like a living hell. when the anxiety came back with the resumption of bonsoy consumption .... i thought to myself ... surely not. surely it's not the bonsoy. but the correlation between bonsoy consumption and the symptoms was stark. so i googled "bonsoy and anxiety". i was shocked to read that there had been a class action against bonsoy in 2010 because it was causing symptoms like anxiety and irritability and other health issues in people. but from research, i understood that the proposed culprit (the kombu and hence the high iodine content) had been removed. so why am i experiencing these symptoms in 2021? i know from having a research background that correlation doesn't equal causation. i'm wondering if the high iodine content in the milk wasn't the only culprit in the ingredients which could cause these types of symptoms. and hence i wonder if there's still something in it which can trigger these symptoms in some people. perhaps the water they use is contaminated with something? i don't know. i understand that not all people are being affected from drinking it. but am i really the only one?
Love the flavour – Can someone explain why they don’t put a screw type lid on the box ?
I love the taste – I worry about the iodine content as was found to be high in a study 2010 Show details
Best soy milk I've tried. And I've tried the lot – Bonsoy to me is simply the BEST soymilk you can find in the markets in Australia. Being lactose intolerant, I've tried a fair few of the soy milk brands and Bonsoy seems to be great in terms of texture, taste and feeling. I actually feel much better (digestion and body-wise) when I'm using Bonsoy when compared to other soy brands. It really… Read more
looks and tastes like cow's milk actually. Its been great. I either drink Bonsoy or if not, try another almond milk brand.
Happy with this find! – I have recently been looking into dairy free options. I am a bit tea drinker and that was my biggest concern was finding an alternative for my tea. I have tried a few other soy milks that have curdled but Bonsoy did not and the taste is surprisingly good! Show details
Great in Coffee – Tastes great in coffee and often see it used in local coffee stores. Great taste and viscosity. Show details
Very nice soy milk – Delicious, thick and milky. i love this soy milk. I am lactose intolerant so i find that this makes a good milk substitute. I heat it up in the microwave and it thickens up. Show details
Quality product – Great product, I don't understand the comment about the product not being sustainable? Could you explain, as I'm a regular drinking of the product and see the packaging as a good step forward in recycling, as the carton is 100% recyclable ? If cap was placed on it to do away with the cutting of the carton, then the already premium priced soy milk would go up in cost and the cap is not recyclable?
BONSOY PACKAGING WORST EVER DESIGN AND FUNCTIONALITY FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY – i am so frustrated with this soy milk company Bonsoy manufactured by Spiral Foods. They have failed miserably in delivering the most expensive soy product with the worst packaging that is not sustainable if it was l could forgive them, almost, instead, you have to slice the carton on an angle and impossibly try and pour contents without emptying… Read more
out everywhere. Spiral Food devotees and the macrobiotic community clearly are not gutsy enough to complain, but this product is just under $5 and it is just wrong what they are getting away with for what they charge, the milk is good but really!!!
