My dual boiler is fine spraying water out of the group head as opposed to fast dripping out when I hit the 1 CUP, 2 CUP and MANUAL buttons.

The steam dial actuator on my Breville 920XL is dripping/leaking. The actuator seems to be really stuck, as in calcium deposits have built up and making it really hard to remove. I'm afraid that if I really work on the screws, something will break and I'll have to replace the actuator anyway. Should I go ahead and do my best to remove it because I really won't damage anything? If I do need to replace it, the US web sites say it is out of production. But I can easily find that actuator in Australia! Does anyone know a source in the US?

That was what broke my original machine after 7 years, in hindsight should have had that valve replaced because the original machine was excellent, replacements have been a huge disappointment, either buy one and replace it or have it done if everything else is fine the new ones are not as good

Thanks Rob. I think I'll do that. I am replacing o-rings on the steam fittings a lot. I found a source on Amazon, but they are a different material and don't last very long, maybe 3 months. I can now pull that machine apart in an instant. But the good news is that I have enough o-rings, of various sizes, to keep all my buddies in o-rings for the next century!

Hi there, I have a brand new dynamic duo set but I can never get the dual boiler to reach past 5-6 bars. I have the grind on 11 with a firm tamp, temperature is on 92c (as it was burning at 93c), the group head gets placed firmly with no leakage. The shots are not coming out very nice either. I would love some help with this please. :)

11 is way to coarse on the grind setting. Go finer down to at least a 5 or even 4 and you’ll get a much nicer brew!

Thank you! Yes the recommended setting by Breville is 12. I've now turned it down to 5 and then 4 as you suggested and wow what a difference!

Wanting to buy a Dual Boiler but have seen some videos and threads about the steam wand not working after descaling the machine. Is this still an issue recently as the sources are from a few years ago?

Kenmac

The only problem I have with the steam wand is that it seems to clog up after each use. Whilst I do run the steam through after use for some reason it still clogs up. You can use the provided tool to clear the holes. But it is hard to find the holes without taking off the nozzle. The plastic tool is pretty useless for this and I have to use a multigrip tool (clockwise to lossen). However I have found that if you run the steam through at half force for a few seconds this often keeps the holes from clogging. Not every time though. Not sure why this happens but is not a big enough issue for me not to purchase the machine which does make really good coffee. Hope this helps

Thanks for the response however was asking about the issue after a descale has been completed. Has this happened to you?

The steam light does not come on each time I use it. When it does come on, texturing the milk is quick. When it does not come on, it takes longer and is much louder. I need to use the small tool to clean the steam wand holes each time but that doesn't always mean the steam wand works correctly. I never had this issue with my previous dual boiler. I have had it serviced under warranty and was advised that there are no issues. Anyone else suffer with this problem?? And have any ideas to solve.

Kenmac

I haven't had an issue with the light. But the steam holes clog up every time I use the frother. Even after running the steamer after use for a few seconds it pretty much always clogs up. What I have found that works most of the time is not to run the steamer at maximum to clean the wand. I recommend running the steamer at a lower level than maximum for around 20 seconds. Don't use the maximum pressure at all in this process as even using maximum for a even a short time will clog the holes. I have no idea why the holes clog up but it seems pretty unique to this machine. Probably the holes are just too small.

Thanks Kenmac, I'll try that tomorrow. I never had a probably with my previous dual boiler. Appreciate your reply.

My Breville BES920(Dual Boiler)keep going up after 93 and over 100i switched off what’s wrong ?

Try resetting it to all defaults. If it still does it the thermostat or controller is most likely gone so contact Breville. Depending on how old it is they might take care of you. If it is out of warranty and they do not help read about your rights under the Australian Consumer Law as it might apply as the equivalent of an extended warranty. Under the ACL the retailer your bought it from 'owns' resolving your problem one way or the other.

Thank you I will try to do that tomorrow have a happy Easter

Could be the triac board, this can happen due to leaks as a result of failed O rings on the top of the stream boiler, though they can still fail without leaky o rings (as it did for me). If you're mechanically minded you can get a set of o rings for $10 (if they're leaking) or a triac board is about $40 on eBay (mine had obvious sings of a short circuit do that's the way I went). There's a couple of videos on YouTube that explain the process of replacing O rings and the triac board. Hope that helps.

My bes920 is over extracting. The water flow is too fast. I freshly grind my beans,I weigh what I'm grinding, and what comes out into the filter basket. I tamper with consistent pressure. So I know it's not my grind as I've gone finer to try and slow the extraction down but it won't work. Breville have not gotten back to me to help me fix this issue. Any help in this area would be great. Thanks very much.

Hi there ! I imagine your breville is on the auto setting using the duration control of 30 seconds, instead of volume (read the ‘note’ on page 26). To change your machine to volumetric go into the advanced menu (instructions page 29), then change to volumetric control (instructions page 31). All the best!

My coffee machine thermostat was hot after being out of use after 24 hours and kept heating past the 93 degree mark. Is it worth replacing the thermostat again (after having this occur previously whilst it was still under warranty), given the machine is now 6 years old?

I need to repair a steam wand leak and I have seen some excellent videos on how to do that. My problem is more basic ... how do I take the machine apart to even access what I need to get to?! All the advice seems to assume the machine is already apart. I don't want to damage anything so just looking for some advice on taking off the top panel.

did you work it out? 2*torque screws at top pf back panel and 2*phillips head either side of collar

Charles D.

Yes, I did ... and I felt sort of silly that once I took a close look at the machine, it was pretty obvious! The thin air up here at 2900 meters must have fogged my brain that day! Thanks for the response.

I have a BSS920 about 3 years old and am having a problem with descaling. Have descaled previously with no problems. Following the manual instructions I empty the boilers and next step is to begin Descale, press 1 cup button to begin to descale and figures 20 (for seconds) show in screen) and press 1cup button. However nothing appears in the screen and nothing happens. Anyone have a solution?

I complete a descale on my BES920 and the Descale Message remains on. Has been occuring for last 18 months or so. I descale every 2 to 3 months but no change

Hey Paul, apologies if you've tried this but maybe reset your hardness setting. With machine off, hold down 1 cup button and turn on. reset should appear on display, hit menu to select and then set your hardness.

Machine only heating to 72° then hovers around that temperature, have checked that the setting is still at 93° , tried unplugging for 60 minutes (as says somewhere in manual) . Obviously can’t make a coffee at this temperature.

Any ideas please?

I cant remove the hex screw so I can change the seal? Any ideas?

Christopher M.

I am writing in case someone else has this issue. I presume you have fixed it or moved on. I would ask Breville first and get an official response and if that is not helpful I would tap the bottom of the hex tool with a small hammer while turning the hex tool in the hex screw. This is the same principal as an impact wrench. Make sure you are sure that you are turning in the right direction. Be gentle. This should only be tried if you are out of warranty or desperate for a solution.

My Breville bes920 steam wand has stopped working, I get 3 bi bi bi sound when I open it. I thought it could be non desalting problem, but unfortunately problem persist after I descale. Anyone know what might be the problem? I live in Malaysia, I bought unit from Melbourne, no local agent to help.

I have recently completed a descale on my dual boiler. Reset and all good, however, when I turn in machine, with Water tank half full, i can hear machine filling up with water then reaches temperature and extracts well (9.5 bar) and steams milk, however after I turn it off , water must be leaking from machine as within few hours the drip tray is completely full of water and the water tank is empty - didn’t do this before the descale? Any ideas?
