Poor toaster & broke after 18 mos – It never toasted evenly and then it broke just 6 mos out of warranty, never buying Breville again. No more needs to be said, just filling the silly 30 words min. Show details

Toasts unevenly. I do not recommend. Easy to see why this product is discontinued – Received one for Christmas, only because my previous Toaster used to launch the toast at me. So I returned it because the bread was only toasted on one side. When I called customer service, the lady I spoke with told me that's how it's supposed to work??? Had the product returned and got another one (after I dished out $60 for another one), but still have the same issue. Stuck with it till I get my money back. Not a good product.  Show details

Good toaster – Bought this from Myer, it's easy to use. There is a tray on the bottom, so you can take out the excess bread crumb easily. It has a sleek look, does the job, mine is black. Breville is a good brand. Used it for more than 2 years , never had any problem with it.  Show details

Good Toaster – We have a small unit and don't have toast very often, but we have used this machine many times and never had an issue. The 'bit more' function is awesome, especially if you are making eggs and toast too early! I don't like my toast over done, and I am yet to have a bad experience!  Show details

Good toaster – Great product easy to use looks great in the kitchen. It can toast up to four (thick) slices at a time. If you only toast two slices then put them in the middle not on one side - as they will be slightly over toasted on one side. Must be hotter in the middle of the toast than at the two ends. For the price - it is a good purchase. We have had ours for almost 6 months - no problems. Fingers crossed it stays this way..  Show details ·  1

Design flaw trips safety switch – We returned our first toaster under warranty after it continually tripped the safety switch and it was replaced with a new one. When the new one started tripping the safety switch we realised it was a design flaw. If bread comes into direct contact with the element (as it can easily do on, say, a hot cross bun or muffin) the safety switch trips.… Read more

Toasts OK otherwise and we use ours now without too much trouble (now that we know to keep bread away from the element).

Circuit breaker after 16 months of ownership – Broke just after a year and a bit of buying new. Was okay when it lasted, possibly only used 15 times in total. Trips the safety switch now, so obviously cannot use anymore. I believe these things only have a 1 year warranty which is very poor. Cant trust Breville anymore. Would not recommend buying the BTA425.  Show details

Good toaster at reasonable price – There is not much I can fault about this toaster. Feature wise, I think it's better than ALL the toasters I've used before. I find the combination of "lift and look" and "bit more" features very useful. While toasting, I can lift and look to make sure it's perfectly toasted, and "bit more" to add 30 seconds of toasting time. The slots are deep… Read more ·  1

and wide, but toasts are quite easy to take out without burning my fingers, although I would prefer the "high lift" lever to go even higher.

On how well it cooks, it toasts quite fast and toasts evenly, good enough for me.

Just to nitpick, a little handle or groove that allows me to easily carry it with one hand would be great. (I keep my toaster in cupboard after each use.)

Pros:

- "lift and look" and "bit more"

- deep and wide slots

- reasonable price

Cons:

- would be great if can lift toasts even higher

Overall, I'm very happy with this toaster.

Smart features, works great – I really think this is the perfect toaster. Two new features that are actually useful - "lift and look" for checking on the toast while it's cooking, which is great for things that burn easily like fruit toast and croissants, and "bit more" to add an extra 30 seconds to get something toasted just right. It also has clear button labels in English instead of obscure icons. It works really well and cooks the toast nice and evenly.  Show reply

Half Toasted – Purchased what I thought was a 'high end' toaster but it only toasts half each side of the bread. Emailed Breville how to correct, they asked for the model number, as soon as I replied BTA425 they disappeared. Great customer service Rebecca WO #326010. May as well have stayed with my Aldi toaster which only toasts half each side of the bread but cost a third of the price of the Breville.

Uneven Toasting – Just bought the two slice toaster and tested it out, put on setting 3/4 and it has burnt one side and hardly cooked the other side... Not sure if it will change after using it a bit or not. Other than that the lift and look feature is really handy

good value – After having several toasters in similar price range fail to toast evenly or last more than the warranty, I felt buying this mid range toaster was taking another risk. However, I did not feel paying more than 5 times the amount for a toaster with a similar warranty was worthwhile. The Breville has been a very good option. It toasts evenly,… Read more

efficiently, has a good progress until finished indicator and is working consistently. I have only had it for 5 months so time will tell if it lasts, but so far it has been the best performing toaster in the price range we have purchased. The only problem is it does not have a lever that lifts high enough to reach smaller pieces of toast.

Very good toaster – Quite impressed with this toaster. It cooks the toast evenly and the "bit more" feature does just that. This toaster is good value for the money .I bought the toaster from Bing Lee for $42 last April and it works very well every time we use it (almost daily). This toaster is light weight and cleans easily.

Great toaster – We have this toaster for 3 years (recently konked out) much longer than any toasters we have had used. It worked great with muffins and put the 2 halves side by side in each slot. Other toasters can't take this even squashing the 2 halves in. Will get same brand and model.

Excellent toaster at amazing value – Got this at Harvey Norman with a very good deal for $40 (2 Toast version), I love this toaster. Light weight, great design (modern look) and toasts perfectly. The Bit More feature is awesome and the BEST feature is the innovative "LIFT AND LOOK", i just love this feature as you can observe the toasting on the fly. Crumb tray makes it easy to… Read more

It's VERY powerful, so it takes a bit of learning the right amount of power and time.

Hands down the best toaster you can buy and the price is really good compared to other options. Don't waste money on "premium" toasters that cost $100-$200.

Great looking toaster for a reasonable price – After reading lots of reviews on many different toasters, it seemed most brands/models can be hit/miss as to quality of element. It's just a shame that people with bad experiences are more likely to leave a review (actually a public complaint) than those with good experiences. Unfortunately, toaster elements by their nature can be fickle - if… Read more

it's uneven or burns out, or overcooks on setting 1 or undercooks on max, then take it back and replace it! If it lasts more than a year with heavy use, it will most likely last much longer.

I bought this toaster for the "Lift and Look" feature and we've found it very useful being able to lift the lever to see how the bread is toasting and then let it go to let the bread drop back down. There is a "Bit More" button that you can press after pressing lever down for a short 30 sec cycle. We find the "Lift and Look" feature more useful than the "Bit More" button but it has already come in handy. There is also a "Frozen" button for toasting frozen bread a little longer than the normal cycle. The buttons are nice, big, well labelled, and easy to press and are surrounded by bright easy to see red lights when on. The Cancel button light is always on when toasting so it's easy to find.

It toasts white bread reasonably quickly (about 2 mins) on setting 2 ½ out of 6 and seems more crispy (in a good way) than our old toaster. Raisin bread was nicely toasted on 1 ½. As far as I'm concerned, it works as it should and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'll be sure to update this review if anything changes.

I just wish the basic Warranty was longer than 1 year (especially after reading reviews for this and many other toasters). I don't normally get extended warranties but since my family will use this many times a day, I decided $15 extra (Myer) was well worth the peace of mind knowing that after the first year, Myer will give me a gift voucher to the original price of the toaster ($49) for me to buy another or different toaster (or something else).

Strangely reluctant to do 'a bit more' – This toaster toasts bread reasonably well. it's no more or less even in its toasting than most toasters I've used - so not especially even but good enough. The 'bit more' name refers to a button that you can use after an initial toasting, to just give it a bit extra rather than putting it in again and potentially burning it. So quite a handy… Read more

feature. The only problem with it is that, once the toaster is hot (i.e. has done at least one lot of toast) it usually pops up immediately when you try to push down a second lot, or indeed to put the first lot down for 'a bit more'. I was almost at the point of taking it back to the shop, but we figured out that if you either hold down the cancel button while you push the lever down, or else just hold the lever down for several seconds, it will then stay down and continue to toast.

UPDATE - this toaster stopped working sometime in 2017 Does an acceptable job of toasting bread As above, needs a bit of coaxing to keep toasting after the first pop.

Can't believe this product made it to the shelves! – A very poor quality product. Burns toast even on the lowest setting, and cooks very unevenly (some parts burnt, other parts totally uncooked! I don't know why there is an "a bit more" button because I've certainly never had use for it! My old toaster ($9 from Kmart) was heaps better, but I wanted a nice looking toaster when I moved. It looked nice It doesn't toast bread effectively

Love the 'bit more' function! – I owned a Breville stainless steel 4 slice toaster for 8 years when it suddenly stopped working one morning. I researched lots of toasters in the market at around the $100 price tag, but unfortunately could only find nice-looking stainless steel 4 slice toasters at around the $200 mark. I wasn't prepared to pay so much for a 4 slice toaster, so I… Read more

began the search for a stylish looking 2 slice toaster. This was about the best I could find for a reasonable price that wasn't ugly, and wasn't horrible white or black plastic. The positive reviews given here also buoyed me. While I don't LOVE the look of this toaster (stainless finish looks a bit flimsy and plastic-like), it is nice and compact, light-weight and has the fantastic 'a bit more' function. I would always pop my toast down to brown it a little more, then completely forget about it only to end up with charcoal toast! The 'a bit more' function is truly inspired and I love it. I have not had burnt raisin toast since buying this toaster. The buttons feel nice and robust and are illuminated in red when pressed. It also toasts the bread nice and evenly. No complaints so far during the 2 weeks of ownership. Let's hope it lasts even half as long as my old Breville. However, pity there isn't a stylish looking toaster (4 slice would have been my preference) on the market that wasn't pushing a $200 price tag. 'A bit more' function, robust feeling buttons that illuminate when pressed, compact design. Stainless finish looks and feels a bit cheap.
