Breville 1.5L Variable Temperature BKE520

It Beeps All The Time – This kettle works well and is still working since its purchase in May 2011. It has had to be cleaned out with vinegar a few times to clean the inside, but this is standard maintenance needed with all kettles. The lid sometimes pops up by itself when it is close to boiling. It's easy to push it back down without burning yourself on the steam.
It has buttons for variable heat settings. The top temp is 100 degrees but you can have it stop at 70, 80, 85, 90 and so on. I find that 85 is hot enough for a cup of black tea with a little cold water added.
Be warned, if you don't like beeping noises, don't get this kettle! It beeps a lot!
* It beeps when you put it down on its base
* It beeps when it gets to the temperature you pre-selected it to stop at
* It beeps when you pick it up
So, if you're trying to have a quiet cuppa whilst family members are still asleep in the morning.....then you better hope the kitchen is far away from the bedrooms (or that they are heavy sleepers)!
The outside of the kettle has remained in good shape for a 2 year old kettle. The cheap kettles (we've had $18 ones before) end up with melted, bubbled plastic near the spout after only a few months use. It's good to have a kettle that can actually withstand boiling water temperatures. the long lasting, durable plastic it is made out of all the beeping
Great product in comparison to high end kettles for half the price – its light weight which is great, easy to clean. i'll never go back to a stainless steel kettle again. I have had it for over a year still works great. Love the temperature option, it would be great though if there could be default setting, but not a major problem. It does smell a bit plastic first couple of times but it goes away. keeps warm; has temp options, looks good it Beeps!!! every time the boil ends & when it reheats
hate the beeps – I have had this kettle for only a year, if that, and everyone is sick of it. It beeps when you pick it up, put it down, turn it on, when its boiled, when you change the setting....and now that the base is rusted a bit, sometimes it just sits there and does one long beep that never ends. I expected more than a year out of something this pricey, but obviously I had my head in the clouds. If beeping all the time was such a Good Thing, why isn't in the product specs on the Breville website, and why wasn't written anywhere on the box? If I'd known it beeped, I'd have never bought it. nothing everything, especially the beeping, and that it didn't last a year.
better than higher priced kettles, top value – Great kettle, light weight and relatively quiet compared to many others, even higher priced models.Good temp selection and keep warm feature is very handy.Colour fits most decors. This kettle is the top of the tree in its price range.Well done Breville! Great looking, quiet, quick boiling, temp and keep warm setting. Have to set temp each time, only a minor inconvenience.
Very quiet and quick – My kettle is a slightly different model to this one but wasn't on the list so I have included it here. Mine is Breville Variable Temperature Kettle BKE580. The kettle is extremely quiet and even in my open lounge/kitchen there is no disturbance when the kettle is on. It gives a short beep after it has boiled and there is a lovely blue light that aids in seeing the water level. The temperature choice is fantastic, I use the lower settings for packet soups and noodles and the higher ones for tea. The kettle is extremely quick to boil, and it looks stylish. Very quick and quiet, looks great and I love the blue light and the on handle temperature selection. Price was a bit high but it has many features. Smelt plasticky for the first week, this has now gone.
Have exactly the same kettle and all the good features BUT ! the rotten thing will not work when you want it to...you have to jiggle and turn it and put your hand on it (downward pressure) to get it to go and when you let go it cuts out again.... needs a redesign of electrical contacts at the base. Have many Breville products and all have been great except for this one problem.
