Bushman’s 230 Lt fridge – Purchased a 230 Lt 12 volt fridge. Whilst the shipping took a long time, it was worth the wait. At this stage I can’t comment on the performance but the build quality looks fine and the unit fitted like a glove after doing some slight mods to the cabinets. The factory changed my door to left hand hinges and the freight time to Queensland was only 3 days. At this stage I will give it 5 stars Show details · 2
Quality Fridge however a little under powered for Australia's hot climate – If you plan to use the fridge in an air conditioned environment no need to read the rest of my review, it would be perfect 5 stars. manage defrosting could greatly improve performance. We have to manually defrost the fridge every 2 days as it never seems to cycle off during warmer nights. If you don't, the fridge won't manage less than 8-9 degrees on a 39 degree day. Maybe variable rate compressor is not the best idea? and would be better to run hard then turn off to allow it to defrost although I'm just guessing it is variable rate.
Freezer is excellent! Maybe duel zone would help the fridge on a hot day as you don't often open the freezer??
We don't regret the purchase however would probably buy the smaller size fridge with similar compressor next time in the hope it could better handle warm weather. Fridge uses very little power considering the size - well insulated and limited by compressor. Shelving and crisper is well designed and high quality.

$100, installed 2 off 80mm IP54 fans at bottom air inlet, controlled via a thermostat when temperature is higher than 30 degrees to assist cooling air flow on the really hot days.
The staff at Bushman, Research, were really helpful with installation advice. The fridge looks great. Have just powered up the fridge and all seems good. Need to operate fridge with contents inside, but so far couldn't be happier !

Comprehensive data on battery and solar panel requirements. 5. It even comes with a 50A Anderson Plug (Unbelievable). 6. Installation instructions were detailed and easy to follow. After Install at 3pm in the afternoon it quickly dropped temperature overnight to 4C by morning. You know what they say about a happy wife......happy life.

Great fridges – We bought two DC230-X to replace two ageing LP gas fridges on our houseboat. As we are ‘off grid’ when cruising, efficiency and low power consumption are important to us. finish on some parts not quite as expected. They said they would take these suggestions on board as I was the first customer to fit this fridge. A week or so later I had a problem with the fridge cutting out, after inspecting all wiring and scenarios a new electronic module was sent and installed, fridge worked again however I feel this was just because fridge had been off for a couple of days, this problem would reoccur a few times over the coming months. We also had an issue with the freezer door/seal, a new door was supplied and the seal still didn't seal well, the finish on this and a few other parts was not great and I was advised that due to a lot of manual work involved in the manufacture of these fridges imperfections will happen, I didn't think this excused the poor workmanship. The fridge had to be defrosted approx every 4 weeks due to a large ice block forming at the back of it and also alot of ice in the freezer section. Bushman were mostly helpful with these issues however after several emails in February this year about these faults they wanted to give us a full refund and we were told we think this might be the best result for you now. We custom made a cavity to suit this fridge and had waited months for it to come out and were now been told that the best result for us now is to take a refund, I thought we were working through these faults with bushman. There was no offer of a replacement until a couple of months later when the compressor played up again this however came with certain stipulations. In the end we lost faith with bushman took the refund and went with another brand. It was a regrettable experience as bushman said maybe our expectations were too high.

The fridge is very good – We changed our fridge from a 3 way to a 12 volt bushman I am so happy with this fridge it's so quiet it uses very little power the top freezer is great and large it's fan cooled the doors lock. Looks really good, new upgraded model with a modern digital temperature display and electronics, but ongoing problems – Purchased July 2023 as this company had great reviews . The new fridge replaced a smaller but reliable low tech 80 lt Engel fridge on a off grid solar powered house. large ,new 1500ah , SLA. Carried out a volt/ amp discharge test on battery , ok. Cable run from battery to fridge is 10mm diameter at a 14 metre length direct feed from a dedicated battery bank. Checked connections and trip setting on fridge , low setting [1] ok. Due to the high motor starting current and subsequent voltage drop on this fridge one has to question its suitability to off grid installations with long battery cable runs. Reinstalled my old reliable Engel fridge . Eventually sorted out problem by running new larger diameter supply cable 16 mm Hopefully , others can learn from my experience. Also replaced the ventilation fan behind the fridge with a larger volume fan which greatly improved the performance problem in mid summer. Internal lights inside fridge sometimes not turning on when fridge door opened. Replaced the unreliable normally closed internal switch inside fridge.
