A good small sander for small jobs - but dust box impossible to prise off to empty – As a 70 year old woman doing small sanding jobs around the home I find this sander mostly meets my needs. In fact I adore it, until each use I get to take of the DustBox. The Good: It is small enough for my smallish hands to manage, not too heavy for me and it does the job beautifully. If there is a larger job my hubby uses a larger sander, also… Read more

Ryobi, and that works fine.

The Bad? Not really Bad, but a suggestion from the heart. There is a great little dust box on one end of this sander, for the collection of fine dust. Great idea - you stick the vacuum hose in the hole and all the fine dust goes away. However, It is the devil's work to prise it off. I have tried with my bare hands (Hah!), with a screw driver, and every other implement in creation, I have torn off fingernails, shredded my hands and wrecked my wrist joints in an effort to separate sander from dustbox. But no go.

WHY OH WHY is there not some sort of easy to unclick apparatus - my vacuum has a bag that is easy to extract: there is a similar "separation of parts" design for my blender, my mixer, the SIM in my iphone, the car's petrol cap! but not the Ryobi Palm Sander DustBox. Honestly, I could invent a Dustbox that would both stay on firm while in use and click off easily for emptying.

Does Ryobi never think that people other than big strong tradies and hubbies will use this palm sander? Please, Ryobi, get your R&D lot on to this and market this useful tool to old ladies like me who are not past doing a little home renos and DYI. There are hordes of us out there. (PS Being an old girl I don't recall exactly when we bought this. I will say Jan 2015 - it may have been earlier. The thing still works a treat, except for the issue of the DustBox. Thank you for listening Ryobi.)

Poor Quality won't last – Bought this just over 2 years ago. I've done a few small jobs and it has kicked the bucket 1/3 of the way into current project. I would prefer something that lasted a little better. sanding pads are cheap either. Won't buy it again and would recommend looking elsewhere. #dud

Doesn't last – Bought one a month ago to do some paint sanding and it just fell apart when sanding the last time. Less than month old and its pants. One might say its value for money given the last one was commercial product (no longer available) but should last more than month.

Sanding Pads Are The Issue – Have used this sander for a few years now. No problems with the sander BUT the sanding pads are extremely rare and hard to find. They are never in stock at Bunnings and I always end up having to get ill fitting pads for other sanders. And the pads do tend to clog up super quickly.

Ok but doesn't last – Bought this sander in 2013 to complete a wood working project, used twice since and performed to expectations. On the forth use however the "quick change hook and loop pad" came off with the sandpaper pad... rendering it useless. Only buy if you can factor in the cost of replacing every 3 jobs.

Great Value, Far Better Than Expected – I was doubtful personally when initially going to purchase this, that this small $50 tool would have all of what I needed from it but I was very wrong indeed. First job I tried and it did a superb job and didn't seem to be lacking anything really. The filtration and dust extraction works well, I doesn't take up all of the dust but does a great job… Read more ·  1

at capturing the smaller particles and whatever's left is easy clean-up. Fairly comfortable to use and has a great innovation in the finger sander addition to the end for tight corners and the like. Even using the low grit pads, I get an amazing finish with ease.

Decided to go with this after getting more than enough for my money from a previous recently bought 12V Cordless Ryobi drill and this exceeded my expectations even whilst they were high already. A truly superb deal, I'm more than convinced of building up a Ryobi ONE+ set after such great quality along with the value. Easy & Comfortable to Use, Innovative Finger-Sander Addition, Filtration System, Suprising High Value

Great little product for the money – I bought this product to assist in cleaning up an old trailer that after 30 yrs I decided to rejuvenate. Although small, I found the product fitted well into my hand and did an excellent job in burning through the rust that had accumulated all over the trailer. Excellent for getting into corners, especially with the small pointed attachment at… Read more

the pointy end of the product.

I could have easily done the whole trailer with this machine, but I also bought a Ryobi belt sander to get it done somewhat quicker. This machine is easier to work with than the belt sander.

It's small but fits into the hand well, and does an excellent job. Easy to use. Powerful enough. Gets into corners very well. Not expensive Nothing obvious.

Great little Palm Sander – I bought this sander a few weeks ago and to mainly use on some inset detail work on some doors I was re-finishing. I also had a large 1/2 sheet sander to do a bulk of work around the frames etc... I had 8 doors to do and after the first door using the 1/2 sheet my hand were still buzzing after i'd finished. I did the detail work with the RYOBI… Read more

and found it pretty impressive for a $50 purchase. On the next door I thought I'd give the RYOBI a shot on the entire door instead of just for the detail work. I've got to say I was impressed to say the least. It was comfortable to use, nice and easy to direct around the work (it wasnt fighting me or trying to steer itself) 80% of the dust was caught by the filter and after the second door my hands were fine, no buzzing. The filter was easy to empty and the finish was great. Needless to say I finished the rest of the doors with the RYOBI. The only problem I have it is that BUNNINGS their main distributer does not stock the sanding pads for this unit only the small finger pads. does anyone know where to find the pads for these? Easy to use, good dust extraction system and comfortable in your hand. Availability of the sanding pads. Cant find any?

Great product, excellent value! – This is a great product which only set me back $49....for a Ryobi! It's only small and 80W but it easily handled some heavy duty sanding which I probably shouldn't have used it for. The only small issue I had wasn't with the product itself but with the sanding pads. They seemed to clog up fairly quickly although I was sanding timber which had… Read more ·  1

been treated with a sanding filler. According to the manual the pads are designed to be reused so I'll have to try and clean them some how. The effective dust collector which is very easy to empty. The Ergonomic design that makes it easy to handle. Well designed precision sanding extension that easily folds away.
