Scan without ink? Hi I have a TS8260 that I now rarely use to print, and a cartridge is empty. I need to scan a document but when I turn the printer on I can't get past the error message telling me to replace the empty ink cartridge. Can these printers still work as scanners without replacing the ink? I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks.

Can I use my printer with just 681 and 680?

Hello, I have a Canon TS8260 printer and the PB ink cartridge has run out. When I went to buy more ink, they told me that the PB ink cartridge is no longer made and it will work if I insert a BK ink cartridge instead. I did this however the printer will not run at all. I tried both with the BK ink cartridge and with no ink cartridge. Can somone please advise?

I took out the thin black cartridge in my TS8260 to take with me to make sure I purchased the correct cartridge and then shut it down. After purchasing the correct Canon cartridge I switched it on but it keeps telling me to open the front cover, after lifting the cover and pressing OK it the tells me to remove the paper tray, press OK and then put back the tray. It then just keeps telling me to do the same thing again. Obviously the problem is that I shut the printer down without putting back a black cartridge, how do I get the printer working again.

howard g

No, I believe, but could be wrong, that it thinks there is a bit of stray paper in the mechanism. I have never had that issue unless there is a paper fragment somewhere in the paper-feed mechanism. Taking a cartrtidge out and shutting the printer down would not cause that.

If you need to open up as much of the printer as you can , including the back paper feed ( whether or not you've been feeding paper from the back), and look for even the tiniest scrap of a torn bit of paper, as even a fragment will trigger an error in most printers.

If no luck, try a vacuum cleaner, to suck out anything that may be hidden.

If that doesn't work, sadly I have no more advice.

Hi There, I want to find out if I can replace the black ink cartridge only (and not the colour cartridges) in my Canon printer (TS8260). And also the most cost effective option for this. Reading an earlier post, it says I can only use a Canon ink. Is this the case? Earlier this year I replaced all of the cartridges and they ran out very quickly. So I am left with a colour printer that I do not want to use as the ink costs are astronomical.

Thank you

You could just set the software driver to print in "black and white" rather than colour or black and white which is an easy solution. Just hit print (or Control + P) and a dialogue box will pop up on your computer screen, and look for a toggle for "colour" or "black and white."but,.....

Yes, there are several good brands of replacement cartridges for rhis Canon printer. I don't buy Canon cartridges, though they may or may not be better than the "no name" brands, because the Canon ones are more expensive.

One of the reasons i bought this printer is that Canon recognises many of the cartridges made for it, that they do not manufacture.

I give them credit for that, and buy their hardware because of it. But not their cartridges, as none of my printibg requires their undoubted superior quality.

Some printer cartidges for other brands have a microchip embedded that the printer has to recognise before it will give the go ahead, so you are forced to use their cartridges only.

Also, the black cartridges Canon and other no-name brands make for this printer come in several sizes. There are the original cartridges that came with your printer ( "starter" size) which only have a small amount of ink, which you cannot buy in a retail shop, then there is the regular size replacement made by Canon or others, then there is the extra large size, made by Canon or others, which may be better value in terms of cost per page printed.

I shop at Officeworks, or Cartridge World, or others and look for the best deal.

It is easy to replace just one black cartridge ( labelled B) or the photo-black cartridge (labelled PB).

Can this printer print white ink?

howard g

I don't know as i have never used white ink. But i have seen no reference in any of the manuals or online materials to white ink. Nor have i seen any white ink cartridges for sale anywhere. So sorry, could be yes or no.

Can I print in just black and white if I dont have a specific colour catridge that has run out. It wont seem to let me do this?

Yes. In the print dialogue, select greyscale or black & white, rather than colour. ( cannot remember which ones are there.)

howard g

With the printer powered up, I think you need to lift and swing up the glass platen, so you can see the cartridges tucked away below on the inside of the cavity and underneath to the right side. They should then automatically slide over to the middle of the printer on their tray. ( But obviouly the power has to be switched on for the tray to slide itself over.) Each cartridhe is changed by lifting up the end closest to you, and sliding it out of its position. It is very easy. To put in a new cartridge, make sure all the wrapping is removed, and remove the orange plastic clip i think. Then slide it in and click the end nearest you down until it locks. I am not near my printer, otherwise i could tell you precisely.

Have you opened it up to see if there is a paper jam? Have a good look with a torch front, back and inside where the cartridges are. If no solution by doing that, it sounds serious. Is the power cable firmly pushed into its socket? They can wiggle free. Did you get any warning alarms or messages? Do you have power at that wall socket? Try plugging in another device to that wall socket.

Hi, I bought a new black cartridge for my TS8260 and still cant get it to just print black. I just noticed that the original was a 681 but this one is a 681 XL. Do you think i have the wrong one or is it just extra large quantity of ink. Thanks

howard g
howard g

XL just means it holds more ink. You have the right cartridge and this printer is happy to use generic "no name" cartridges as well as the authentic Canon ones.

Hi, i have just changed the black ink cartridge but it will not print just black. Do i have to replace all the empty colour cartridges. I ask this because i only ever use the black and white setting. I have an TS8260 Thanks

howard g
howard g

Haven't had that problem but i think the solution will be in your software settings in the program that you installed when you set up the printer. If you only ever use the black and white setting, it should print normally when a colour cartridge runs out, but that answer doesnt really help you.

And why have the colour cartridges run out if you only ever use the b&w setting? Whatever the answer, i suggest you take all the cartridges out and reinsert them, as it is possible one is not fully locked down in place. Are you getting any error messages? Did you use an authentic Canon cartridge? ( I buy high quality no-name cartridges rather than expensive Canon ones, and they work fine, but it is possible that a really cheap and nasty one may cause the printer to spit the proverbial dummy.) Are you still under warranty? Have you done a head-cleaning cycle recently, or any of the other maintenance routines? Could be the cartridge is not the problem. Hope i have helped.

Have a Canon TS 8260. Got paper jammed in rollers (removed paper) now it will not print. Paper comes out blank Please advise Pam

Run a few of the maintenance routines available in the Canon control app. ( Like head cleaning.) Look for stray bits of paper stuck on the cartridge heads. Take the cartridges out and reinsert end ensure they are properly locked down. Are you sure your print que listed in the Wimdows software isnt still trying to print a file it couldnt print before? If so clean out the print que list and start again with your print run.

Mine has stopped working in Wi-Fi, even though the display says enabled and connected. Works fine on USB.

howard g
howard g

Wifi....or wifi direct? If wifi, which band do you use...2.4 or the newer 5 ? Is your computer trying to talk to the printer on the wrong band? The printer may be connected to the modem for wifi, but the computer cannot see it.

Whatever it is, wifi or wifi direct, the troubleshooting routine should be 1 remove the printer connection from both the printer and the device you wish to use, ( computer/ laptop/ tablet or phone) 2 set it up again as if it is new out of the box. 3 if no success either consult a professional who will certainly know more than me OR Take printer back to the shop and demand a replacement.

My first one died completely after 6 pages of printing, so i got a replacement where i bought it. The replacement has had no problems and i love it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried all those things, without success, so I think it's back to the shop. It's only 6 months old and I bought the extended warranty.

How do I copy and scan with my TS8260 photocopier

My TS8260 printer is going through the motions of printing but the ink is not appearing on the paper! The trouble shooter says it can't find the fault? The ink tanks are fine?? Please help!

howard g
howard g

Basics first. Are your cartridges empty? No, because the ink levels would be available to see in the app, or on the printer screen. If you have recently changed cartridges, are the new ones properly clicked down into their housings? Are you using conventional printing paper? ( Some plasticised paper is finicky about ink.) Is the paper coming out of the printer, as if the job had finished normally, or is it simply making a lot of "printing" noise? You may have already done this, but lift the scanner platen to expose the ink cartridge compartment, and check out the cartridges to see if anything looks amiss. Check the software settings on your computer/laptop, to ensure you haven't requested reverse printing , (white on black, instead of black on white). Check the document you are trying to print to see if it has any special instructions for the printer. ( go into the normal print dialogue for this document on your computer and check all the settings.) If all else fails, uninstall the printer, reinstall the printer, and try again.

Thank you, it seems the ink had already run out! Even though the printer was still showing low ink levels... i changed the cartridge out and it works fine again. Thanks for your time. :-)

Why does my Canon Pixma TS 8260 use a lot of Ink ??

howard g
howard g

Are you printing black and white documents or graphics using colour settings? Is your "paper" colour set to sepia or a shade or tint other than white? ( background colour can chew a lot of coloured ink.) Are you still using the starter cartridges that came with the printer, because they are much smaller in capacity than regular cartidges and could make it look like you are using a lot of ink? Without looking at your settings and the issues mentioned above your question is difficult to answer.

Ken N
Ken N

I am printing both B/W & Colour .Where do i find if "paper " colour is set to white rather than sepia ?

howard g
howard g

When you wrote the document you may have specified a setting other than white. In Microsoft Word and other programs you can choose a colour for the background....a paper colour . If it is close to white, but not white, you can use a lot of ink because you are printing on 100% of the paper, not just the words which take up maybe 10 or 20%. While checking your word processor settings, check the template for new douments. You may have saved a non-white colour as part of that template for all new documents. Easy way to do this is to start a new document and check all its settings in the document, ( not the printer settings.)

All printers use a lot of ink, that is how printer manufacturers make their money....on the cartridges they sell at ridiculous prices.

I have had several canon printers pixma920, MG5600 and now TS8260. I cannot believe how quick this printer goes through the ink. I would only change my MP920 a couple of times a year. Now doing the same work I go through inks at least twice a month. On my MacBook the paper settings are all standard settings and I don’t have a background colour printing. Any suggestions?

How to place 6x4 photo print paper into tray? Thx.

howard g
howard g

I haven’t done that yet, but you will see that the tray has movable walls on each side. You slide these in or out to make a snug fit for the photo paper, not too loose, not too tight. I can’t recall whether the glossy side of the photo paper goes side up or side down. If it prints on the wrong side, just reverse the side for the glossy side, and try again.

I dont print photos much as they chew through the ink cartridges and coast a lot.

If you continue to have problems, do a google search for the printer manual using something like, ...” download manual for printer TS8260”, then download the manual ( which is free and is available online for everybody), and it will explain a lot more. Good luck.

Is your PC connected to wifi already? If not do that first. Does your Pc operating system have Air Print? If so uou can print directly to the printer using a direct signal, and bypass the household wifi. You can search for the wifi , or your pc signal, from the front panel on the printer by accessing the settings button on the printer screen. . That may give you a lead on what is possible. Without knowing more about what operating system you are running, it is hard to determine a solution.
