I phoned Care About to express my dissatisfaction with the My Aged Care provider they recommended. The owner of the provider was rude and unpleasant when I raised concerns about the 10% administrative fee on every service and the hourly rate increase from $79.50 to $116 they were intending to charge my fund. Consequently, I contacted Care About to request a change of provider, and they assured me that a consultant would call the next day at 10 am. However, I am still waiting for that call. In the meantime, I found a new provider on the My Aged Care website. What does Care About really care about?

Follow-up  · I haven't heard from Care About at all since my review so no recommendations or other options were discussed. I found my new service provider, who are great, on the My Aged Care website. So really to reiterate what does Care About actually care about?

Good evening, Rosemary, We apologise for the delayed response as we were unaware of this review until just recently, as the vast majority of our reviews are posted to TrustPilot and Google (and monitored there).

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we are deeply disappointed to hear that your experience did not meet either of our expectations.

We understand your frustration with the fees and pricing changes you encountered. Since the transition to the new Support at Home program, there have been significant changes affecting all aged care providers and their clients, so we'd like to take this opportunity to please clarify a few points:

Firstly, in response to the 10% fee: Providers can add a processing fee when they arrange services through external specialists rather than using their own staff. This is standard across the industry under the new program rules. You can avoid this fee by choosing to use the provider's own staff for services where available.

As for the rate increase, the move to Support at Home has led to pricing adjustments across all aged care providers Australia-wide. These changes are part of the new Australian Government's program structure. Despite the rate changes, many clients find they're actually better off financially under the new system overall.

We were informed that you'd mistaken osteopathy as classified under clinical services, when in reality, it's classified under independence, which does requires a co-contribution (i.e. an out-of-pocket expense). We were also informed that the provider did try to address all of your concerns, and to explain this to you, and as stated - they determined you'd, in fact, be better off under Support at Home.

After carefully reviewing your various concerns, we determined that the issues you raised related to program-wide requirements would be the case for any provider we recommended.

Nevertheless, we're genuinely pleased to hear you've found a new provider who you're happy with through the My Aged Care website.

Should you require further support or look to switch providers in future, please don't hesitate to contact us at 13 13 00.

We truly care about helping our clients to navigate the aged care system with confidence, and we regret we were unable to cater to the level of service needed here.

With Care,

The CareAbout Team

Hello, Edward, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience felt disappointing, as this is not the standard of service we aim to provide.

At CareAbout, our role is to support individuals and families to navigate what can be a complex and often overwhelming aged care journey. Our service is completely free for customers, and any recommendations we provide are obligation-free.

The questions our Care Advisors ask, are intended to ensure we have a clear understanding of each person’s circumstances, preferences, and care needs, so that we can make an accurate and well-matched recommendation to a quality, vetted home care provider.

We would also like to clarify that CareAbout is not paid by, affiliated with, nor funded by the Australian Government. Our commercial model is that we receive a set placement fee from the care provider only in circumstances where a customer chooses to proceed with a provider we have recommended. There is no cost to the customer at any stage of engaging with our service.

We regret that this may not have been clearly conveyed during your interaction, and we appreciate you raising your concerns. Feedback such as yours is important to us, and only helps us to ensure we continue to improve how we communicate and support those seeking our assistance.

With Care,

The CareAbout Team

HCP Advisory Service – I had the pleasure of having been contacted on my home line by "Care About" today, January 22, '25. I was told it is a free service that offers us advice as to which of the many Providers near us they can recommend in order to avoid further problems of abuse. Once I uttered some of my problems that I have with the current Provider, I was promised over the phone that she'll send me a list of Providers near me. However, upon opening the email which arrived within minutes, the contents stated that unfortunately, NONE of the Providers near me, had any vacancies...?!?!

Apparently, she thought I was merely being difficult. Sadly, she did not take my complaints seriously as I received a call later today, from the Govt Complaints Commissioner. Apparently, my complaints were certainly legitimate, totally degrading and need to be addressed.

I also approached my Federal MP with a complaint about this Provider's behaviour. This Minister wrote a letter to the Complaints Commissioner too, asking if those issues could possibly be addressed.

I feel lucky that I was not made to feel as if I were exaggerating, like "Care About" thought of me, so it seems. They have no idea how we, as elderly have to endure the unfair treatment of the so called Providers that are licensed to make us feel safe and happy in our own home. Instead, these Providers feel as if they are empowered to treat us the way they do, thinking we have all "lost our marbles anyway."

I wish "Care About" all the best but please be warned: DO refrain from expecting ANYTHING from them. They have their job, sit behind their desk, "so what?!" seems to be their attitude and we're left to feel as if we are the problem.... : (

Not a problem. It's all about "caring for the Elderly & NDIS" recipients, is it not? Best wishes
